I'm clearly missing something, but I don't see what would have made this worth full price relative to other synths.

I'd say it's because it's one of the very few VA iOS synths that actually sound even slightly close to analogue. Top of that tree would be Model 15...

Most lack DRC's low end when boosting the resonance of the filter, or the (very BassStation II-esque) grit you can get from mixing and modulating the oscillators. And it does some gorgeous sounding PWM....the best On iOS, imho.

It's probably not going to blow anyone's mind, but it's definitely got it's own character to it, not just another cookie cutter synth. I remember the promo video talking about what they were going for, and I for one think they did a good job of it.

    Promo video:

  • Don't have much of a head for the finer points of synth architecture - but I've already found 4 or 5 patches I really like and will probably use in future compositions, and that's after a whole 5 minutes of noodling. Well worth $2.00, thanks for the sale!

  • Unfortunately with model15 on my iPad already, this just feels like a distraction from what I should be doing.....playing with model15.
    Can't complain at $2 though.

  • Agreed, its all about the sound. Its filters, envelopes. Its not got the most options but its got for me the essential ones offered by VA synths and mimics my recently bought MS2K in features and sound quality. Possibly even better sound! I was so impressed I went and got the vst for 20 quid and I dont even have a desktop computer!

  • Thanks ! Great synth - lovely sounds :)

Better polyphony than your MS2K too... :)

Definitely does VA better than the MS2K (which, to be fair, is 15 year old technology), BUT....doesn't have the benefit of DWGS waveforms to add more versatility. MS2K has, to me, always excelled at digital sounds, whereas DRC is even making me consider selling off my JU-06...

  • I thought of this too. it is soooooooo appropriate. Right? I think? Love that movie.

I sold mine a few weeks back, sounds great but I HATE those faders. Not the size so much as the feel of them, made me not want to tweak.

Yeah, I should sample Johnny The Paperboy and make a track with it. lol

  • Just to clarify... it's the IAP price that's dropped, right? The synth appears to be free.

synth was/is always free and works for 7-days trial period - this IAP sale of $2 allows you to use indefinitely.

It's a weird pricing model. Supposedly, the app is free for 7 days, and the "IAP" is the purchase of the synth engine.
That said, it seemed to have full functionality for me weeks after I downloaded it, although it was very wonky in modstep. I'm hoping that it was in part because of some glitch and now that I have shamefully paid so little, it'll work like a dream in modstep....

  • oh snap - count me in too...even though I didn't exactly fall head over heals in love with the 10 or 12 bass presets I quickly auditioned last night - but still a great deal

  • I really wish DRC remembered last patch used. Does it have State saving?

It will on next version. Already implemented! ;)

The presets are, imho, not great. A little too awash with fx. But the ease of programming means that isn't an issue.

I like it I like it.
But I don't like the menu strip at the left side. It leaves a blank strip all the way down. Hopefully this can be changed so it hides back up into the 3 line button at top so then the rest of the synth controls can be expanded to the edge of the screen. Maybe this can be combined with the current hidden menu. Either have the icons from 'profile', 'store', 'midi', etc appear on the strip under the 4 there now or put those 4 icons in the current hidden menu. And then have the whole thing hideaway. Just an idea to simplify. (Hope that made sense)

    More space saving ideas,
-An option to hide the keyboard. Many will use this with a midi keyboard so no need for the onscreen keys. Can then add some other controls in place of it.
-A smaller 'hold' button? Can add another key there, and have the 'hold' text just above function as the toggle.

This is true for 95% or more of the synths out there.

  • @sinosoidal
Congratulations on the 2 years, keep up the good works.

  • maybe I fell in love too quickly with its reverb, but it's too late...it has me now.

    I was thinking more like 98% ;)

And working fine in the 'beta' too. Sorry I'm so bad at finding new bugs in DRC that's why I've been so silent...

That's great to hear! When they are hard to find, means they are not evident!

Only one is the 'common' IAA-Launching bug. I recently got ModStep and DRC has to be launched prior to connection or it will not work. Same issue as with Cubasis on my iPad Air 2, iOS9.3.2. AUM however launches DRC just fine so it must be something with the way the host launches and handles IAA nodes that is playing tricks on us.

Once the issue is know it's a 'non-issue' just a minor annoyance if the human memory fails to launch it prior to connection :D

I faintly remember that issue being discussed somewhere ... apps loading the audio engine after the graphics, then when launched in IAA mode they never load the audio engine bc the graphics are never loaded. Something like that. Could be something different here, of course.

  • @sinosoidal ,

    Nuno,

Please! Give LK a background mode, I can not tune any virtual synth. When flipping to other apps, LK get interruption with no message out to other apps. It is very troublesome.

    Thank you in advance.
