i don't want to really bash the apps, just being honest of my view but no reason for me to harp on it, besides music is so subjective that Imaschine and maschine desktop might just hit the spot for someone else.... like I said I've used it since it came out and I've even taught classes in it, it has very weak midi implementation and it's current forte is in making loops rather than full compositions. The last update added a few bells and whistles but ni has allot more to worry about than the lazy chop they added and the minor scenes update they implemented, even they stated they're in the stop gap stage..... they intend to roll out many more updates within the next year to hopefully get it up to speed. Right now most users would consider it a great update if it just rolled back to 1.8

A few bells and whistles? I can easily load up pro tools open machine as an audio unit which is just the same as a vst, but now you can do it in various ways to route the DAWS audio to your iPad, or whatever you want. You have no idea what you are speaking about when you say something is shit at least give me some solid points on why it is shit and I'll throw some banter back at you.
You didn't, so I am done trying to reason with why you called it a travesty since launch lol.

@kobamoto not only does imaschine suck, but the desktop maschine does too. Is what you said. Maschine can be run as an audio unit fx processor as well as a standalone daw.

  • I agree.

  • This was a unique and pleasurable experience... I thank you.

why wouldn't I be 'used to someone calling me out'... who am I to not be used to being called out?

First of all sucks, is not the same as shit, secondly I didn't say all of their products I complimented kontakt earlier, the sucks colloquialism wasn't meant to offend you, it was just my opinion, which I followed up with a few reasons..... the audio unit tirade was all on you.... it's not really that serious is it, we say this app or that app sucks often.

  • btw the impc pro used to suck... but it's gotten better now, hopefully both maschines get better too.

  • Bought iMaschine 2 last night. Great, clean interface and very usable sounds. Fx are nothing to write home about. I actually think it compares more to Triq Traq than iMPC Pro....

Triq Traq wins on fx and recordable automation but iMaschine edges it (for me) in terms of sounds and UI.

  • I went with impc pro in the end. I may get both if I feel it's worth it.

  • Great choice! I recommend loading up the demo songs to get acquainted and to get an idea if what you could do with it.

I put my iPad Air 1 on airplane mode with all the bells and whistles off to have the most juice for iMPC PRO.

@dblonde Does it ask you to join retronyms community by giving them access to your email/soundcloud every time you load up the app, or has that been done away with in the PRO version? Do they announce every time an overpriced kit is released on your device? lol I'm just being a smart sass, but seriously retronyms is sketchy AF.BTW you can get iMAschines kits all for 9.99 which is gigs of decent kits. Saw it on the non intrusive app store the other day when I loaded it up. Damn good deal IMO, because they sell those kits at a high price on the real Maschine.

  • @TheMaestro
Thankfully there are no forced advertising BS tricks.
When I get some cash I will also get Imaschine just to cover all options etc. It was Imaschine that first interested me.
Thanks to all who have commented in this post :)

  • @dblonde you just may have swayed me into buying impc pro someday. You work for them don't you?! Spy! :) Your welcome, bye the way don't buy Imaschine until you have dug into the purchase you made. It looks as if they made a great update to the old application, I just have trust issues :D have fun.

  • Be sure to check out Beathawk as well. There is a great review of it on TheSoundtestroom. I really want to love iMPC PRO, but it seems that every update sets it back a step. With the recent update I literally wanted to toss my iPad out the window. What I was playing sounded great, but what was recorded was out of sync. iMPC Pro has always felt like a great idea of an app, but once you start pounding on it, things just start to fall apart. I don't have the patience for buggy apps...i just want to play music not jump through hoops.

FWIW, iMaschine 2 is a great app...there is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you understand the UI workflow, you'll be dropping beats and making music in no time.

    Here's the BeatHawk review...thesoundtestroom.com/beathawk-uvi-epic-guide-ipad/

the dev was on here recently and said there is an update in the queue...

This is a whole category of apps I simply never use, but could a person use GlitchBreaks and not necessarily, er, glitch?

  • hey you guys having problems with the impc pro it would be cool if you could list your device model and os, as it might help those of us who use it heavily..... it's flawless on my mini 4 but I've been thinking about getting a larger unit lately, my old iPad 3 runs it but it is laggy with most apps.

I have not lost hope on the Beathawk update, but I am rationing it carefully at this point...

  • iMaschine sounds great with a nice interface. Never got into iMPC. Both are too incomplete as a sampler-based drum machine. The only one I know of that is a fully functional sampler-based drum machine is BeatMaker2.

    +1000
which is I am still using a few mics, and hardware for all my sampling needs. Don't know much about beat maker.

So I was playing with the old iMPC app I had sitting there rotting and I realized something. It can be connected via output to AUM. Can it be connected via input as well or should I just give up and use a direct line? I'm trying to like the app so hard, but it's audio copy is so bad and crashes the app.

@Dham that's an interesting point of view, but why would that affect their sales on that specific item? I can bet they are just holding out to make a third version iOS hybrid like AKAI has done with that docking pad.

I'm pretty confident that if N.I. added MIDI controller functionality it would NOT have a negative effect on sales of Maschine or Maschine Mikro. That's why I noted that their fears were IMHO irrational. The desktop software versions offer so much more capability because of the VST/Komplete integration. There is no way an Ipad even with a small pad controller could compete or even need to compete with that. The Akai MPC Element controller works great with iMPC Pro and makes a great portable complement to the Akai MPC Studio, MPC Renaissance and MPC Touch.

iMaschine was released in 2011. N.I. has gradually but grudgingly added basic features such as copy/paste, Audiobus, etc. usually in response to competition and to a lesser degree complaints from users. If they are still holding out to make a 3rd controller for IOS after 5 years it only reinforces one of the major complaints that Maschine users have lodged against them over the years of holding back features and trickling them out over time. That was one of the reasons I switched from Maschine to the MPC Ren. then to the MPC Touch.

@Dham the first Imaschine was bad and they held out feature big time. Just like they are with Imaschine2. I agree, and wish they'd allow basic midi implementation. Still probably wouldn't use it, but yeh they are holding out.
