I’m using KZ ES4 and they’re fantastic as IEM. Good isolation and sound, I’ve tried cheaper and more expensive buds from KZ and didn’t find them comfortable, either too heavy or not great design. ES4 is a sweet spot for me. I have 4 sets, some for everyday use, some for IEM duties.
I’d definitely try these before Shure SE 215.

I also have a red pair of KZ ZS4 which I find a lot more pleasant, palatable and is what I liked to wear on the tube when I was using the tube every day. I have the foam earpieces on, not the rubbery plastic ones.
I’ve been using these for about a year-and-a-half and they are superb. I have to do all my tracking and mixing only thru phones as we’re in a 615sq ft condo and you just can’t have any kind of even fairly quiet levels.
I split between using the 1More Triple Driver and my Sony MDR-1R over-the-ear cans.
since this got drug out from the graveyard, curious if @Tarekith would give us a 5 year review of his 846's
Still using them or have you moved onto something else?
I’m responding to my response! For the past 3 years I have had AAW custom triple diver in ears and have been very happy with them. The ACS custom in ears that replaced my gorilla ears were a HUGE disappointment since they went back for repair 3 times in less than 2 years and the final set must have been from someone else’s mold because they didn’t even come close to fitting my ears. But I have been very happy with my AAW’s.
So much choice, I’m veering towards the more discreet/smaller ones and got shure se112, soundmagic e10/11, 1more triples, and ashdown-meter m-ear as an outside weirdo on my shortlist…
prices go down as soon as a comp releases new products. found these for 100e last week : sony wf-1000xm3… great to listen to music
to mix i go with : akg k 702
AKG K702s are a trifle big to use as IEMs I’d have thought?
Still using them and love them. If they got stolen I’d replace them with the same thing in an instant with no hesitation.
The KZ ones look interesting. How are the Linsoul TIN T2? They're about $50.
How are the Panasonic Ergofit RP-HJE120 at $11? >100,000 great reviews on Amazon.
I liked the ultra-clarity of the old Yamaha EPH-100 and JVC FXD-80, but those are too sensitive to moisture so the drivers break too easily.
HiFiMan RE400 at $25 are pretty flat, and decent especially if you don't like the ever-popular mid-bass boost (~100Hz).
I tend to break or lose IEMs, so now only buy inexpensive ones.
Thanks. I gotta figure out something. At the rate im not near my studio or monitors lately, i need something that will get me relativly close that arent cans. Ive had a few things in the 2-500 rnage (etymonics, klipsch, and the shure4s), but nothing really i felt were gonna be good enough to learn em. Not doing finals on them (finals get sent off), but i just wanna get closer and save those poor engineers the extra work.
I’m intrigued by the Stagg IEMs (not intrigued enough to actually get them, but maybe next time I need some…)
Any interesting developments in this area in the last three years?
I managed to wash my 1more triple drivers yesterday so I’ll maybe get another pair if they don’t come back to life, or something else if there’s better/cheaper etc…
Thanks to the world of what's come to be known as "Chi-fi" (very good, very inexpensive IEMs), astonishing sound quality is now available for well under $100 USD. I can personally recommend the Simgot EA500LM for about 90 bucks (single dynamic driver), and if you're willing to push the budget a little higher, I love the Letshuoer S12 (planar driver), and the Aful (terrible company name!) Explorer (hybrid dynamic & balanced armatures). I started with IEMs because my over-ears were too hot in the summer, and now I seldom use them, even in the winter. They're amazing.
Letshuoer Cadenza 4
I’m rocking some 8.99 Bluetooth in ear buds from Walmart, and I plop some studio headphone monitors over those earbuds that has noise canceling. Hard to describe what it does for me, but I will always use this method. I know I’m not the only sociopath doing this…..
