Apps like Figure & iKaossilator?
Hi- I really enjoy using both of them for making sounds. Is there any others that work in the same way as they do? With a sequencer, a variety of sounds and that tapping/ drawing on the pad way of composing? Or is it just these two?
Cheers

@ExAsperis99 took the words right out of my mouth. Can't think of anything else
None that I can think of but there are some that are similar.
HarmonyWiz may be the closet as it allows you to draw on the screen and then uses that to create a piece of music from it which can be shared as audio or MIDI.
Have you looked at Virtual ANS? It allows you to draw sounds and produces a sequence; however, it has a granular sound to it rather than the two apps mentioned.
There are apps like Bebot and TC-11 that allow you to draw on the screen and create sounds but no built-in way to record sounds although they're both Audiobus enabled.
There is an app being developed that would match all of your requirements but no release information is available.
@InfoCheck app being developed? Do tell.
Flux Pad was the app I was thinking of. It's by the same developers who created Elastic Drums and Wretchup.
BeatSpiral. Loopseque/Loopseque Mini.
SoundBow also lets you draw on the screen to create sequenced sounds and has MIDI out as well plus it's currently free although it has no Audiobus, nor IAA, and offers export via iTunes file sharing.
You can actually record sounds made in TC-11. But just as audio files. It's got no sequencer like Figure and iKaosilator.
I love both those apps and, no, im not sure there really is another app like them.
You could use the arp on the keyboard on Thumbjam and set it to a scale - that would give you similar rhythms to Figure.
Equally the arp in Gadget can give you a similar effect and you can record your playing.
i think the appeal is playing patterns live on an xy pad and having them easily recorded and saved into loops/sections which can be instantly recalled and the parts swapped and rearranged. Not too mention creating a section and one click saving it as new or ovewriting it in the same slot while the music plays, free to come back and arrange the parts after you are done jamming. If I wanted to move notes around in a grid and watch a playhead go round and round. I'd use a piano roll. I honestly don't get the point of something like Flux pad. I look at that and see a piano roll dressed up with pretty colors. We'll just have to wait for Korg to bless us with ikaossilator pro or something.
As far as I can tell, TC-11 has no built in recorder. You can definitely record it with Audiobus or an IAA host.
TC-11 does have a sequencer though.
Just because something looks like a piano roll doesn't mean it's a piano roll. You might want to re-evaluate Flux Pad after it's released to see if it's something that would meet your needs.
I enjoy playing around with a little app called Thicket. It's not much like Figure or iKaoscillator in that it's all controlled by graphical interface, no pads or knobs. But there are some cool sound and rhythms which can be filtered or recorded through AudioBus.
@robosardine to answer question, which I myself have asked before, the answer is mostly no. With one exception, the TNR/tenori apps. Be warned however, and I only have the electronic sounds version, the sounds are not great and the interface can be confusing. But it does have midi out, which is wonky on my phone, others seem to be fine with it though. It has to be set to "draw mode" and the loop speed slowed down to replicate the figure/kaossilator experience.
Ok- thanks for all the replies- looks like options are a bit thin on the ground- but I shall check them out. I like the look of the flux pad mentioned- I wonder when it will come out.
Korg seem to have left the iKaossilator- there has been hardly any sound packs released for it- strange that..... you would think it would have been a nice little earner.
They did add Link end of last year and have been busy with gadget. I'm hoping it was just a case of perhaps deciding to hold off a bit and take it a different route which we will see eventually. Hell it still gets regular glowing reviews on the store.
Ah. Appologies. You're right. It does have a sequencer.
I thought there was a neat way to record. But maybe I'm wrong. Must be getting confused with something else.
Thicket ++
Korg's IDS10, while not for everyone, provides a chaos pad for recording of notes into the sequencer. It's not really chock full of the kinds of sounds that you'd find in iKaossilator, but you can do some amazing, wonderful things with the synthesizers.
Ids10 is pretty cool. Totally forgot about that one. It has its own little quirks, especially with the forced quantization, but that vocal synth is awesome.
That Thicket looks pretty cool- can in play in specific keys? Or is it more for ambient drones type of thing?
I also forgot about iDS10- and I own it too. I'll get it back out now
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 you remembered correctly, there is a way to record within TC-11
Let's not forget Gesturement. You can assign a key(or make up your own with his companion app) and wiggle your figure around the screen all day. MIDI out. Multiple channels of midi (4 driving multiple instruments)
If I have two iOS devices I'd set something up in fugue machine and patterning and solo with Gesturement
any tips on how to make gesturement more responsive/predictable? I could never gel with that as it seemed that my touches were only a suggestion of what the app should play at any given point. I wanted to hit specific notes with no auto repeat rhythm. Can it be set that way by turning things off in the settings?
@db909
hope this helps
Yamaha TNR I (e) and magellan touchpads for good XY touch pads
Auxy I think is very similar in that the learning curve is pretty small and there are lots of great sounds included which can be tweaked too - Unlike Figure you can actually build a complete track with its easy to use sequencer.
I'm finding it hard these days to muster the patience required to work in a piano roll.
I know what you mean.
Golden oldie or better blast from the past: Sampletoy

Does anyone know if it would be possible to add custom instruments to ikaossilator by somehow getting into the internal sound files on pc or something? Kind of like animoog. I heard a while back Figure fans got into Figure and added a bunch of Thor sounds but propellerheads prevented that with an updAte. Would be awesome to hack ikaossilator.
