You can paste your own sounds directly into iKaossilator. Tap on a sound and then select import to paste in a sample.
@InfoCheck the only thing you can do with imported audio is play with the filter effect. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about hacking into the thing to create playable user INSTRUMENTS. Custom sounds for instrument presets. Wanted to know if anyone knew how to go about this as people have done so with the other apps I mentioned.
@db909 if you mean add files to the app via iTunes so imported samples share the same functionality as Korg sample packs, then I think the answer is no. Here's a screenshot of the extent to which you can set variables for your sample from within the app.
I'm well aware the answer is no officially. nevermind.

What about moodscaper?
For me "midi keyboard free" music making means 3 things, FIGURE, KAOSSilATOR, and OSCILAB!!!!
I ask to know, for I do not own the app. What do you think of Skram?
My understanding is that Skram does not currently have a live playing surface. But I suppose that could change with the updates they're trying to get out.
Skram is Figure meets Rhythm Studio via 2016.
Skram will fail if it is not made Universal.
Not deep enough concept for IPAD only.
I love the app, for now. Expecting MANY updates asap.
Dont forget TRIQ TRAQ and TC-11
It's not obvious that TriqTraq fits the bill, but you're correct it does
Thank you. That's enough. An app (barren any DAW like) for iOS w/o control surface of some kind is a lame horse to me.
Why you are a very smart person too.
LOL
How does Triq traq fit the bill? Did I miss an xy performance pad during my time with it? (Serious question). I found the pitch fader to be a little wonky and hard to be accurate with if that's what you mean.
The filter has an xy pad where you can record automation.
Just opinion of course.
But - I consider these apps in a different category when I use them as opposed to others because they are strictly portrait orientations with no usable MIDI controller access. They are also less "musically scale" based and more by sounds and performance convenience.
I really was not equating the actual use of axis vs. parameter variability.
Sort of go-carts or a quad (Kaoss, Trig Figure) vs. a car or truck (Nave Animoog Bassline FL).
@RustiK I see the similarities between how iKaossilator and Figure work as being very similar and significantly different than either of these apps in comparison to other apps. The music scale, orientation, MIDI, and performance aspects you listed clarify the basis for these comparisons.
One thing I really really appreciate about ikaossilator, that I wish other apps would incorporate is the video game- esque pattern save system. Rather than opting for a copy/paste situation, you just click save, then change the pattern, click save again and each time you click save you automatically get a new copy with the changes. Very easy to build a song that way. Or you can choose overwrite to well, overwrite.
Really loving this Ikaossilator (Thanks to this thread I got to know about it).... But, would this be the ultimate song creation tool if only it could export the parts in midi?
Great App..
Edit... and more packs
it would be sweet if there was a pcm synth to load in and program custom instruments from samples then choose the y axis mod behavior. And a simple volume per part control could add a lot of depth as well.
