Droneo UPDATED!

I wasn't sure this would ever happen, but it finally got updated today. Per notes, Audiobus is back working, and a native iPad layout as well.

A great drone app, if you're into that sort of thing.

  • Good Lord! I'd given up and deleted this, due to it not having AB. Will grab it again, now.

Thanks Mister Sean. That's going to make for some Happy Friday Night Zombie Funeral Love Marches here in Austin.

  • Yes!!!!!!!!!!
I can die a happy man...
but still not for awhile. Okay?

  • It probably goes without saying, but Droneo through any of the apeSoft/Amazing Noises effects apps make for a fun trip.

Had never heard of this mystery machine until now. Complete trip this thing. AUM: Droneo > Moebius Lab > Reverb > Effectrix (slowed down to 25 BPM) = some kind of magic

Yeah, that's a nice set up. Might have to give it a run. It's about as close to meditation as I manage...

Wow. That meat with the Effectrix sauce. Very good.

I'll have to try this out as well. I don't think I've ever had much pleasure using Effectrix, so maybe this will be the winner.

Same. I meditated once on accident. Droneo fills a void for me.

Never got my Effectrix money's worth either, but this could have been made for it; adding rhythm through change to the droning....actually sounds a bit like life....

  • On paper this sounds right up my ally. But listened to the dev's site demo...hmmmm.... not seeing it. You cats saying it can be more interesting if you through several more fx into the mix?

Indeed it does. And yeah, I've had mixed feelings about Effectrix. But in this scenario, particularly when it's slowed down to absurdly low BPM ranges (around 25) and then passed through some additional effects it seems to be a new creature.

I'm with ya. By itself Droneo doesn't excite me all that much. But I am finding that when it's fed through a bunch of effects—especially time-based modulation effects, it can get pretty wild.

  • Hmmm. Sounds interesting, but I don't have Effectrix. So will have to look around my apps to see what else might do.

  • Great. Thanks for the heads up.

Is it possible to get effectrix down to 25 BPM I can't get it to slide below 45. Weird.

Bought it. Like it. Even by itself it can get kinda cool. :)

    Me neither.

  • Hi Droners!

Well, that took forever to get updated (tumultuous Real Life) but I've been enjoying it in its somewhat updated state for a long time. I generally pipe it into Crystalline, Swoopster,ApeFilter,Johhny, and AUFX:Filter. Drones themselves get lost in a reverb, but you can now make some bleepy blorpy patterns that can go with them pretty well. I'd suggest you check out the "1.5 Features" voice bank, and/or look at my crudely produced video on http://www.jhhl.net/iPhone/Droneo

Here are some notes to counter the complaints I'm sure you have!

    Landscape!:
Droneo's rendering code is so old that it really would be a struggle to get it to run in Landscape. I started in on it, but this update has already taken 2 1/2 years! That's why I'm also working on a newer, much more powerful Droning app to have all these and other features (Ableton Link for instance...). Droneo is not even running with ARP!
Similarly, getting it to squeeze itself into a "multitasking split screen" was not in the cards.

Droneo doesn't have the IIA "Transport", which unlike Audiobus, doesn't automatically come with the feature. Again, I'd have to figure out a place for it and manage it and merge that into the old code! It might happen, but I'd rather work on a new code base.

The way I use Droneo is more or less set it up and leave it alone for a few hours, and the screen is not animated in any way, so being in Portrait doesn't bother me so much!

Oh dang. So I shouldn't have just bought this "so old code" as you put it, and instead have waited for the new more powerful drone app you've already started on?

Also, audiocopy for AudioShare doesn't appear to work for me.

  • So I've put it though AUM/Filtatron/Johnny. Interesting.

My bad ... Should've specified I am syncing it to AUM's clock, which will allow you to take it down to 20 BPM. I would imagine that syncing it to other MIDI clocks will allow the same if you aren't using AUM.

  • edited July 2016

Not that it's really all that important since AB/IAA works, but does Audioshare copy/paste work for anyone else? I'm wondering if I'm just doing it wrong.

Good droner with ( speaking for myself here ) a somewhat impenetrable interface. Great to hear that it's back in play, doubtless it will sound grand when pushed through the mincers. Redownloading - thanks for the heads up !

  • Interesting looking app. Holding out for landscape.

  • This app is sweet. One of the little gems that makes iOS stuff so cool. Glad it's been updated.

  • This is how I'm using Droneo. I'm in the city of Queretaro now. The city plazas of the historic district are nice, but the rest is run-of-the-mill.

Evidently, it's a popular place for Mexican families in small surrounding towns to flock to now that schools out and "vacaciones" have started. This means no rooms are to be had and you have to take what you can get.

I'm in a horrible room, the corrugated fiberglass ceiling is covered in black mold and the walls have slathered on hot pink paint. It's been raining off and on which is really kicking in that mildew. The smell of paint is strong and I think they just painted over the mold.

There's a shared bathroom and a family of 12 crammed into the room next to me with screaming children. And no one seems to be bothered enough to flush any of the toilets.

I've stayed in jail cells that are more posh than this.

So I'm laying here under the moldy ceiling diddling Droneo and making strange sounds that imply that I'm some twisted scientist doing high frequency alien surgery with hope that I'll be left well alone.

    Thanks Droneo! ;)

Yeah.. but although the app looks really cool and I love the idea, it's not an essential. Portrait mode just doesn't work for me so I'll hang on for prospective new app.
