Does anyone know how to delete Beatmaker's default samples and shrink the overall package size?
The question in the title is self explanatory. Beatmaker seems to be pretty good as a drum machine or a sampler, but the default samples are crap and the size of the over all app is enormous! Has ANYONE had any success with deleting the bloat?

I think you might need a jail broken device.
@Trueyorky Yeah, I'm not willing to do that quite yet. I wish Intua would just make it an external package that can be installed if desired or left out if desired. I've heard of people successfully deleting the files, but the size that the app was taking up didn't shrink.......
I assume you've left a message for them over on the Intua forums. Would be interested to know how responsive they are to it.
Actually, I saw that someone else left one for them. They didn't respond to it at all... :-(
Unfortunately they are not very responsive at all.
What about iFunbox?Use it by myself but i'm too lazy to try it now![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Yes, jailbreak required... I posted in the other thread.. but Tim @ Discchord has good instructions for it in his video review:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=c4gjcX9WXnE#t=636s
And for the terminal:
In Terminal (or SSH): rm -rf /var/mobile/Applications/B07D0261-A778-4737-8808-C389DD967F0F/BeatMaker2.app/library/Keyboard Sampler/
@jesse_ohio Thanks! This is good to know, even if I don't want to jailbreak my device. :-)
it really wouldn't work without a JB and iFunbox?Hard to believe,i'll give it a try tomorrow.
I wish Intua would just make it so that we can remove all of the junk! Maybe if enough of us ask for it???

No you can't delete stuff in iFunbox unless its in the documents folder, not the *.app folder or any others, it may appear like it worked because it "flashes" and jumps to the top but if you go back and check the files are still there. Unless you jailbreak
I did it without jailbreaking using iExplorer.
@drelbs OK, You've got my attention! What did you do, and how did you do it? I'm VERY interested! :-)
@drelbs Is iExplorer the Macroplant app for desktop computers that works like iFunbox? I can see that it costs $35 for a full license. There is a download available on the site. How is the download limited? How small is Beatmaker 2 after the crap is removed? Currently, a fresh install takes up 714 MB. Thanks in advance! :-)
Interesting. There's still a freeware version of iexplorer available. The last free version was 2.2 and the latest version is 3.1 or so...Hopefully the freeware version includes the write access to other folder than"documents"as well.
no luck with iExplorer 2.2 (Snow Leo) and iOS 6.1.3
When using an iOS file browser like iFunbox or iExplorer, you can't modify files inside the main app directory, that's locked down tight by Apple. Only folders/files around it like "library", "documents" etc can be altered, without any jailbreaking.
So,user drelbs is lying then?![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Indeed...I'm afraid so : ( lol
Well one of us is lying lol ...Nah I'd also like to know a way clean out BM2 without jailbreaking, it's just way to big for a ~13.8 GB device.![:/ :/](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/confused.png)
I know I want to buy a new iPad every week because I've gone through all my iPads and only kept what I felt was necessary or I really wanted and I've done that so many times that literally everything left I don't want to delete and because of this it seems my iPad memory is forever full...Grrrr...Tear...Sob....
That's why I bought a 64GB Mini up front... Hated to spend the money but so glad I did now. Nothing worse than being stuck with no upgrade path other than buying a brand new one. I've never once had to worry about storage on my Mini, and I've got complete BM2, SampleTank, etc plus all apps I can get my hands on.
That said, I'm sure I'm filling up quickly and every new project I do adds hundreds of MB depending on how much audio sampling I'm doing. Still, I haven't had to check my usage yet ;-)
I have those as well; tell ya what my biggest abuser is, but oh so worth it, I have most of the computer expansions for Alchemy. It comes in around 3.5 GB and that's cut down as much as I could too. I don't just cut apps, I clear cache, restart, delete projects, delete samples, and presets lol
So was @Drelbs right that there is a way to clear BM2 out without jailbreaking, or is @ChrisG correct? I had my hopes up until @ChrisG said it wasn't possible....
Not possible![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@JMSexton - ahh, okay. I have Alchemy free but not sure how that compares to the full edition/complete packs.
Alchemy Mobile is on my iPad, full version plus all (mobile) expansion packs is about 1.8gb. But that's like around 600 presets, not counting the variations, that just sounds amazing. Unlike BM2 where most stuff is just dull and kinda useless without lots of editing. Also, I keep Sampletank on my iPad, cos I love popup ads.
Anyway I'm definitely getting the 64 or 128gb version next time.
Yeah, me too. 64 or 128gb. Unfortunately, I'm still left with the BM2 overhead, just to make use of the app. I don't want an 800mb drum machine! :-( (unless it's all high quality samples). ;-P
@ChrisG - you and me both! It'll be nice not to sorry about what app to delete next (that I don't want to). I can apphoard to my liking! That's exactly why I don't worry about Alchemy because its so awesome
BTW its NOT possible without being Jailbroken. I'm not yelling at you just wanted to make it clear for any other misled readers
@JMSexton Thanks for the clarification! :-)
I'll have to try it again tomorrow morning - I have done this before - but maybe it was back on iOS 5... On a Windows 7 system if that makes any difference. I remember not wanting to update BM2 and have to do this again...
iFunbox can edit files in the main app directory in all iOS versions before v6. After that you need to jailbreak to do it. One of the reasons I delayed upgrading from iOS 5.1.1 for so long.
