See and listen urself
I still miss the digital fish filets. He apparently sold all of the source code to Magix and that's why there was never an update.
^^ good move to sell the code everybody used the freeware
He was working there at the time so wound up incorporating it into some of their products. Well, working at Sequoia that is (now owned by Magix). He's not working there any more so there's zero chance we'll see a refresh, even if he was so inclined. A bummer because that "Air" switch on the Fish Filet was effing sonic magic on some sources.
^^
Speaking of sonic magic
I use the free airwindows channel

Give that guy some money guys
I don't think these were mentioned, but they are awesome:

Scroll to the bottom to see the freebies.
There's also the free fxpansion plugins, I think you have to create an account but the freecomp is good, it's the basis for the compressors they made available in auria as IAP's. I have geist lite and singlemault se in my downloads as well. singlemault is a distortion. I think they're all free to get with an account, I don't remember them being a time limited offer.
And, if it wasn't mentioned, there's the computer music collection, which you can get with a single issue purchase on the magazine stand. I use a lot of their plugins, but especially the convolution reverb, which is excellent.
I hope that was a help.
This is a nice recent thread on Cakewalk's Deals forum

Somewhat reduced in functionality from the commercial versions but many of the Stillwell plugins come for free with Reaper. They also offer discounted pricing for the full versions if you're a non-commercial Reaper user.

VERY NICE freebie from Cakewalk - Get the CA-2A Leveling Amplifier FREE!
http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/CA-2A/Free
A very, very nice freebee thanks for posting it up, been using it the last few days and finding it great for the drum buss, good for taking a bit of weight out of my outrageous kick drums (I blame hip hop) and does something magical to snares.
Been testing it against some of my fav compressors, u73b, old timer, bx opto and the like and I'm finding it compliments them well, has a nice tone and can be pushed into some sweet saturation.
Very handy that it's got an internal sidechain filter too, least that's what it sounds like, not sure what that screw looking dial actually is, help shape the sound more to my liking anyhow. Had a few probs downloading it but worked with safari in the end.
@mister_rz Glad you're liking it.
"The R37 Screw"
"The original hardware used for modeling was designed for leveling in radio and TV broadcast applications. Due to an increase in high frequency content in FM broadcasting the unit featured a back-panel, screw adjusted potentiometer with the rather mysterious name of “R37”. Basically it adjusts the unit’s gain reduction frequency response (High Frequency Pre-emphasis trim). On the original hardware unit, the R37 control adds gain reduction at frequencies above 1kHz, based on the program material. Use this control to reduce or prevent over-modulation on tracks caused by pre-emphasis (high-frequency sensitivity). When set to the FLAT position, gain reduction is applied equally on all frequencies. When the control is moved toward the HF position, gain reduction is increased on the high frequencies. While the FLAT setting finds most usage, adjusting the R37 control is often useful for de-essing (cut down sibilance by compressing high frequencies) or changing the tonality of vocals. Experiment to achieve a good balance between low and high frequency limiting."
I'm going to let that sink in for a few months, I've logged it down as being like a tilt eq emphasis filter thingy, but I know my eureka moment will happen, one day, soonish I hope.
I've seen a number of positive comments about "the screw," but yeah, that is a rather dense paragraph.
Nice to know the technical side of what the screw actually does, took me an age to get my head around compressors and using them in ways other than transient taming and a loudness box.
Struggled with reverb too, so avoided it for years, was always into the creative side, experimenting with sound and textures and never really paid much attention to the technical aspects of mixing and knowing how to use my fx's, effectively, I'd just make massive fx sandwiches to go with my multi-layered synths.
@mister_rz Here is a tip from the Gibson Brands guru via the Sonar forum
"Of all the compressors I have - and that's a lot - the CA-2A ProChannel is always what I use for voice, preceded by the Concrete Limiter to catch peaks."
Moves ca-2a into the vocal folder, I want to get into working with vocalists a bit more now that my skills have slightly improved, think I've lacked confidence in the mixing stage up till now, made it to the first basecamp wooo, looks up at mountain and starts to tremble.
What I've been doing with the ca-2a over the weekend is experimenting with drums, putting distro on a drum bus to add some heft, sticking ca-2a after to trim some of the fat, setting the screw to the left and driving it to see how the snare reacts.
Then I get excited, lose my mind and bring forth decapitator and hit the punish button, touch of drive, set it to the a style, trim a bit off with the low and hi cut dials and alter the mix so you can just about hear it. If my drums need a bit more of a swagger I'll use ubk-1 instead, I've been having a lot of fun with this combo, but not getting much work done.
@mister_rz I hear you. I intend to experiment and put this thing through its paces. Having fun and not getting work done is okay, as long as you don't have dependents going hungry.
Heads back to grindstone, after I finish this podcast.

Carla - Jack-based Host for Mac/Windows/Linux. Has a modular patch bay that works really well, supports AU/VST(3)/SFZ/LAPDSA & others. I did a quick video of Carla w/ StudioMux + FluxPad/DD/triqtraq that shows the patchbay:
@Ocsprey How about that JuX for Windows, yo?
Ah, totally forgot - dev said he thinks Au is the way to go... so that's a no-go on Windows. But maybe Carla (I posted just above) would do the trick?

Thanks! Now I just need how to use one properly. Any tips?
Thanks! Now I just need to know how to use one properly. Any tips?
For Signalizer, set it up for analysis, but make sure it works with your gfx card first, then use it as you would the spectrum as per fabfilter etc, the other modes, stereo field and fft spectrum, others to be added in the future, the other two plugs, I haven't tried yet, I think they are standard oscilloscopes, they've just been upgraded to 64bit, but they should allow zooming and framing of wave shapes etc, nice to use when you know what your looking at, but also great for learning about waveforms, similar to the one on the Minilogue
This is starting to resemble the dragons lair from the hobbit, full of riches and hobbits with tiny legs. @lala, @mrufino1, @syrupcore, @telecharge, @yowza, @ocsprey, @knewspeak. Thanks for linking to some greatness, two more I'll add, apologies to 64bit windows people, but you only have yourselves to blame for being so fancy.
A direct link to an exciter sort of thing, one for your palette of colours, mac 32 and 64

Another great eq freebie, this has just been updated to support 64bit os's, mac and pc, most formats even has aax support. The low end has a pultec style boost and attenuate knobs, has a fantastic drive knob that seems to be volume compensated, sounds beautiful.
