wasn't sugar bytes supposed to be coming out with something new soon

  • Well they just made factory synth for computers, so my guess is that its coming to ios as well, since some of their other synths are for both ios and computers.

  • Okay, that looks pretty awesome. Haha.

Sugar Bytes got some of my money with some of the most irrational purchases I made on iOS music. I bought Turnado even though it didn't match my musical style/preferences. I bought Thesys even though I had 20 other MIDI sequencers I didn't use. And I bought Cyclop even though Sugar Bytes pretty much advised me not to based on the hardware I own. Now that I have a Pro 12.9", I excited to revist these.

BUT, I would definitely like to see AU support for all their apps, even more than I'd like a new app.

Au support would be awesome. I'd love to
see factory synth on iOS instant buy for me

  • I think they said they'd improved their reverbs for this synth .
I hope they are nice enough to add them to Turnado also .

  • I appreciate the depth of their works, but having owned all of them except Egotist for a while, they never get used in anything serious. That said (I'm the king of backhanded complements), I really would like the Factory synth to be ported based on the videos.

  • Yes, Factory for iOS , please? Sounds great from that video alone!

Interesting. If I had to keep only one thing of theirs on iOS it would be Egotist. I think it's a very elegant (and productive) piece of work. Courses and horses etc etc.

My choice for iOS is Obscurium by Sugar Bytes. That looks tasty.

It does look sweet but think it would choke on my air1 when running with other things, like Cyclop does.

    I'd love a Looperator AU.

  • Guitarist maybe, there's nothing like it on iOS unlike other apps they could port.

  • Sugar Bytes said in a KVR audio thread that there wasn't an iOS version planned for the full version of Factory.

Aaaahhh, a Sugar Bytes Player mayhaps...?

  • No players please , Synthmaster always leaves me wanting some further control and I really do not want to have to go to a desktop for edits. Some more depth to something similar to Synthmaster would be suitable, deeper arp control more assignments for the x y pads would be nice as well. Not really sure what levels of factory would get left out for iOS, will have to see if anything comes from it at all I guess.

aww that's sad. I was hoping that was the one

  • No time for players. Just sayin. Not that that is what sugar bytes is planning.

  • I suspect that they'll be brining Looperator as their next iOS app.

Let's flood them with requests for a port. When they add up the numbers they might budge.

I'll sabotage yout efforts, listen to @Seangarland we need LOOPERATOR on here, not another goddamn synthesizer.

  • @rhcball well, flood them about that as well then.

I have no desire to change the world

  • I emailed them. here is what they said.

"Unfortunately Factory needs quite an amount of memory, which is a big problem on iOS.
So our next iOS release won't be Factory.
That's all i can say officially right now.
If you want Factory you should get it for desktop."
so don't expect Factory on iOS until iPad memory improves.

  • That really exposes the gulf between the laptop and iPad pro, and is exactly why Tim Cook needs to drop this "check out this computer" BS, and move toward bringing touch functionality to at least the laptops.

iPad Pro 12.9 has 4GB of RAM, I'm sure there are people running Factory on Macs with 4GB of RAM?

So perhaps they are referring to the formidable installed base of iOS devices that have 1GB or less...

I doubt the problem exists with ipad pro, or even air 2. But so many people are still using older ipads that making an app which only works with the newest ipads would be too little markets for it to be more profitable that doing something else.

I wonder if you could run it well on a 4GB Macbook Air. I'd highly doubt it though. All other current MacBooks are 8GB in their lowest configuration.

    Hmm... from Factory's page:

    System Requirements:
    Mac OS X (32/64 bit)
    10.6.7 or higher, 2GHz, 2GB RAM

Guess you are probably right, would have to be 1GB devices and below with issues, but seems there would be a crunch on CPU too for most iOS devices.

There are probably limitations placed on how much memory apps can utilize for various services while running regardless of how much the device has available overall. 4gigs on a pro probably just means more apps can be ran at the same time as opposed to one app being able to simply use more ram for itself. iOS is likely way more restrictive than OSX in this way.

  • Well there's definitively a ~500mb limit for AUv3 on iOS

  • iPhone iOS app hmmm O well.

  • That was such a tease.
