  • Can't watch video at work. What's happening?

  • The video explains it when you can watch.

    Summery:

Work commitments of one member means he no longer has time to upkeep the site etc.

All members will still have their own channels on You Tube.

You can still support the guys and they will still be making videos :)

  • The guy who does all the technical stuff to keep the site running is too busy at his day job, so the web site is going to close.

There will still be stuff from Doug and Jacob on their own YouTube channels but they will have individual Patreon accounts.

  • Hello everybody, both mine and Jakobs You Tube channel will still function as normal in fact I'll probably start to post more stuff and will be concentrating almost totally on iOS from here on in.

Also my Patreon will be getting a lot more attention too with more exclusives and a very cool new Patreon Only project called The Delic Cafe.

Jakob has also reopened his Patreon for people who want to support him.

Also as you all know I get codes fairly often so we can hold fun mini competitions here for those now too.

I would like to stress that me Colin, Jakob and Jon are still very good friends and have not had any arguments or anything like that.

Such a pity that there is nobody to take over from Colin. Yes, it's a lot to do, but less than building a site from scratch, and you guys have been building a brand.

Oh well, glad to hear that you'll still be continuing with the reviews, many of which have been incredibly useful, entertaining and informative.

Cant find anyone to take on his work?

  • glad to see their work will continue on via YouTube, but sad to se the site go. these guys really make a difference in the iOS music community.

  • Sad to see the site go. It's not so long ago that there was a huge update. Hope that the members that do continue to upload YT videos post the links in this forum. Besides that I will mis the price drop Apps part of the website already. Will try to post the price drops that I'll stumble on.

So, is Sir Doug taking over TheSoundTestRoom on YouTube as his own channel?

  • I actually think this could be a thing, as we go forward into the future (best way to do it) I think we’ll see a lot of entities thinking about it and saying “you know, we can have a viable web presence without a web site now”.

  • Very bummed to see the site closing down. The app search page alone was the best out there. The huge archive of video reviews, and the hilarious interaction between the Soundtestroom dudes was a real joy to see everyday. The fun contests, the IOS music reviews, the fantastic app reviews, this site was really the example of how to do it for iOS music. Congratulations for the great work you all put forth, we absolutely appreciate everything you've done!

I've moved to a static site generator (from resource and maintenance hog CMS's - Drupal!) just so I can have long term sites with next to zero technical overhead.

Would love to see an iOS app make a badass GUI for a static site generator.

I feel like Panic should do this, and think maybe I'll bother them with an email.

  • I started the thesoundtestroom You Tube channel back in 2011, there are now over 700 videos on there, over 4,500,000 views and more 12,700 subscribers, I am not going anywhere and will continue as normal, so it's kinda come full circle, so if anyone can help by becoming a Patreon to thesoundtestroom please do consider it, there is going to be a load of new activity on there from now on.

I am genuinely broke, so I need all the help I can get

I never visited the site(a couple times maybe). I watch all the youtube videos though.
Hope this works well for everyone going forward.
edit: revisiting....it's actually a cool site. I just never worked it into my web browsing routine.
So good work colin and good luck to you.

  • So sorry to hear this. You guys have been the best. Still are, of course, and I'm relieved you'll still continue individually.

Thanks so much for everything you have done and will continue to do. Still, sad to see the site go.

Actually I had to do a mental double-take when Jakob mentioned in his vlog that the site was perhaps around two years old; so much content that it feels much longer.

  • The Sound Test Room and Disco.
    Forever forgotten.
    I mean remembered.

  • Even my wife used to mimic 'welcome to the soundest room' and 'finger your devices' or somethings similar :p

  • Bummer, but understanding. The app search page was one of a kind for sure. Though, the guitar capo guy's site has an app sale thing that is quite good as well. I can just never remember the name of the site???

  • A pity, if understandable, BUT for most of us it's all about the videos....long may they run. I can only manage a couple of shekels a month, but I consider it my best subscription...

Better than nothing, but not anyway way near exhaustive. Someone needs to take over from Colin.

  • If I had 1/2 of Colin's mad web skillz I would volunteer and try to help maintain the site. Alas, I have no web skillz at all.

I'm working on a website for future-times right now but it will absolutely not in any way fill even a part of the void left by soundtestroom, it won't be about iOS apps or any 'thing(s)' at all, follow & like this page for more titillating hints of obscurities to come...
