  • Or even allow Blocs to integrate within LP as an IAP

  • It's interesting that the URL for this app is http://blocs.cc/launchpad and not https://novationmusic.com/software. That page on the main site only refers to desktop software (yet all of the main images are of the unlinked Launchpad app).

Couple of questions about hardware control with the Launchpad Pro:

    1. Can you toggle loop recording from the hardware?
    2. Is it possible to use half the grid for triggering loops and half the grid for MIDI control of another app?

I ask because I'd love to:

    1. Arm and trigger loops with the top 32 pads
    2. Use the new scale feature to control synths (and drum boxes) that feed into those armed loops.

    Great, for live performers. Not much, for those of us who have been asking and asking and asking for _ages _that you;

Arrange for the sharing of samples packs between Launchpad and Blocs Wave
Add the ability to change key per individual bank in Blocs Wave.

Blocs came out less than five months ago. That counts for ages these days?

Got a place for you right here on the porch Professor. Nice rocking chair, warm blanket, decent view of the Smokies, lady nurse comes by with a little tea every once in a while...

Just a figure of speech. :)

  • so what do the launchpad app, Blocs Wave, and the Circuit all have in common, besides my wanting to own them all?

for q 1 you cannot loop record in LP app, only import. If this is what you are referring to
For q 2 ....Currently I don't think you can do this, I wanted to do something similar with mod step. Not the arming and recording but at least the triggering, I'd put up with recording afterwards as long as I could trigger from the pad for performance while composing.
The problem is that the app will still receive the midi from the 'MIDI' half of the pad and turn off any audio loops in the same lane :(
I haven't gone as far as trying midi bridge in between, the main reason being that LP only works with launch hardware, so midi bridge would probably get in the way, may be worth a try though.

  • Thanks @AndyPlankton. Was under the impression that you could actually record loops with the app (not that I'd ever tried).

No worries...... I think we are working on a similar workflow though......
Do you own any of the Novation controllers already, or are you looking...?

I own a few older Novation synth controllers but nothing gridy. The Circuit is shortlisted but keep avoiding it because iOS Safari doesn't support web MIDI and I don't really use a computer for music these days.

On that note... @Launchpadforios and there's an app on the app store called "Web MIDI Browser" that basically shims the built in Safari web component with support for the Web MIDI spec. Alas, someone at CDM reported that it didn't work with the Circuit config webapp. Maybe your team could get them to play nicely together? Or perhaps this Web MIDI Polyfill for iOS on github could bring circuit configuration to iOS? Perhaps via Cordova? Pretty please? :)

  • Heh. Just realized that the fella who made that Web MIDI polyfill is the same fella who put out the Web MIDI Browser app. He also made the DXi synth. Thanks Takashi!

and (if possible) having a way to control the app using the launchkey/launchpad hardware controllers without having to have the app open in the foreground first. Having to switch to/foreground the app on the ipad to launch clips kinda limits the usefulness of having clip launchers on the midi controller IMO. A workaround if this is an unavoidable IOS problem would be to add audiobus remote triggers... anyhow, thanks for the update (especially Link in the last version)!

I run LP app in background while using the LP hardware with no problems.....I am on iPad not iPhone, so maybe this is specific to iPhone.

Regarding the web midi browser - I've tried this with no luck with several apps - has anyone used it successfully?

    +10000000000 this please :)

  • Is it easy to export loops from samplr to launchpad app?

  • is it possible to drag clips to a different pad? that seems like an essential function... Having lots of fun with this app.

  • I just started incorporating this app into my live setup. Lots to love here. I realized how good the tempo detection and time stretching was in Blocs Wave and it inspired me to give this a try.

After using for a while, here are a few requests:

    • Midi map clip launching cells and other controls... Do I have to use Novation hardware? When playing live, my hands are full. I need to launch with a pedal.
    • More rows! I quickly used up the 6 existing rows.
    • Follow actions, even really simple ones like play the next cell when the current one completes, or just keep looping the current.
  • edited August 2016

Please allow the option to play more than a single cell in a column at a time like Remixlive allows this is huge! But it may be that the technology is theirs though.

I would love that also. Should I get Remixlive?

Forget it, you need the mini launchpad or launch pad pro...But that's not a foot pedal board...Unless they produce one, you won't be able to do that.

    • More rows! I quickly used up the 6 existing rows.

It suits their hardware, so no.
It also requires much ram to handle more samples, so that's somehow understandable.
Actually, you may load a new set of loops quite fast. Don't know if it's because I'm not using AB on this ipad or an update, but I haven't anymore scratches while loading a new set.

    • Follow actions, even really simple ones like play the next cell when the current one completes, or just keep looping the current.

Need more details, but no they won't do that.
I've asked for 2 years just an other action to play the loop entirely, not based on the 4-8-16 sequence proposed, to then chain to an other loop in the row. Dead letter.
But somehow, you practice your skill differently :D

I haven't tried it in a while. The Web MIDI API has been a bit of a moving target so perhaps stuff has changed but the app hasn't updated? Funny that the only comment on the US web app store for the app is about it not working with Circuit. :) https://itunes.apple.com/app/web-midi-browser/id953846217?l=ja&ls=1&mt=8

I like it but I really also like Blocs Wave and LP! It's just that right now I'm leaning more towards LP and Blocs Wav for the ability to record as much as you want and import export too from Audioshare which is a must for any serious app now days!

yep, these apps that don't implement audioshare should take notice, it's essential. Thankfully the remix live devs have taken notice and are going to do something about it.... the rest of the features in their app though could be described as anything but not serious.... drag n drop, reverse, scene play from any direction, panning, to name a few.
    that app is no joke.

Yes, it is turning into a serious competitor to Launchpad. But, RemixLive still needs State Saving under AudioBus. Without that, no amount of clever tricks can compensate for having to manually reset everything every time.

Then there's the possibility of Blocs Wave working more closely with Launchpad. The two in combo are already fantastic.

  • novation is great, but the integration of lp and blocs doesn't exist yet. I don't think remix live is turning into a competitor it is a competitor. LP has been out for 2 years, it needs to get it's mixer together, right now state saving improper mixing doesn't mean much.

  • I am curious who will implement follow actions first Lp, remix live, or Hook?

  • That's why I bought all three :)
I play all three and dig all three
