  • ^ Youve given me an idea for my first public krft offering.

    Love it!

I do recall that KRFT won't let you update surfaces with audio samples? Will have to investigate...

  • I love playground. One of my favorites.

  • both cool apps but apples and oranges imho

I take this as a challenge. I bet I can approximate a playground experience in KRFT that at least compares green apples to red apples. Would be even easier if I point KRFT midi at BM3... Need to find the time to do this.

  • @lukesleepwalker

'Maybe the issue is that Helmutt sets up the samples and the surfaces so that's it is a fully formed creation and KRFT leaves too much work to the creator?'

    Spot on!

  • What if PG developer came up with sound packs that could be freely assignable to different onscreen modules? They could still charge for the soundpacks but it would give a user more control over the sound.

That, and a sample import may just tip it into the creative tool area.

  • When I messed around with PG it did all of the work for me. I felt as though I was not making any creative decisions whatsoever and I hated that. I assumed that I was not the intended audience and deleted it.

    KRFT is much different.

I think that's the four-years-ago version or prototype for Playground by the same guys....not certain as to it differences... @kobamoto?

Looks cool bummer it's iPad only, would love to hear from users.

beatsurfing is cool, but it's again not the same thing... first of all it's a midi controller only, secondly as cool as it is it doesn't have the same functionality as playground, they really evolved the capabilities in play ground.

@luke, funnily enough I like to pretend I'm using playground when in samplr. I think samplr is the closer to the pg experience than krft

Ah, I see your point now. I was thinking about the way PG allows for playing a sequenced rhythm track, which is not dissimilar to some things that can be done in KRFT. You are thinking of the way PG allows the user to "play" a sample, which is indeed closer to Samplr. Again, I think KRFT's roots in EDM had them thinking about playing sequences rather than samples. I do think there is an opening for a designer/developer to figure out how to take Samplr's genius and take it in new directions of expression.

couldn't agree with you more...I once contemplated offering Jonatan Liljedahl a voodoo sacrifice to take on the job but apparently voodoo doesn't work with stuffed animals. I wish all of the devs who don't add proper import/export of audio and midi to their apps would just turn over development to Jonatan, he could be like the Harvey Keitel of the iOS platform... a fixer we could call in on the most egregious situations lol

  • Good news everyone! We've gone one step closer to what you're asking.

We're running a contest with Ableton. PlayGround act as a simple midi controller (fixed set of rules) and trigger Ableton's Drum Rack. The challenge is to swap the defaults samples with your own and make an awesome composition.

The idea behind the contest is to gather data on the "pro" segment to inform our future moves for the app.

You can find the rules and download the pack there : www.getplayground.com/contest

thank you for the info and much appreciated injection of hope...... However I do want to stress that I and everyone that understands what your app is know without a doubt that YOU are all the PRO you guys need. In Other words if I was going to put together a dream line up of dev to create playground, it would be the guys who have created play ground. I know you understand me when I say that it takes more than coding chops, it takes the kind of people who would come up with something like playground as well as the skill to bring that vision forth... I love ableton but frankly I would not want an ableton version of playground, or an native instruments version of playground (god no!)
so please don't dilly dally waiting for suggestions from the best of this kind of user as you guys are the best out of this kind of user... Lets go!

    p.s. hi mom

  • They had an app prior to playgrounds called Beatsurfing (now gone with iOS 11). Essentially houbcoukd design a board like on playground anyway you wanted and it was a midi controller...or that’s what it was supposed to do anyways. It was actually what made me get into iOS music production in the first place and after seeing he YouTube videos I saved up and got my iPad...unfortunately the app was not supported, had very little to no online help, was impossible to get it playing nice with any other app and unless you wanted to hook your iPad up to ableton every time the quantize would only work about 2% of the time. I did however like the way the buttons could be assigned with steps and some basic programming commands...like one button could add +1 to the midi cc number every time you pushed it until it either cycled back around it’s predefined range or was reset to original value by a command attached to a different button. Essentially you could turn a very small number of controls into a massively complex drum machine. Check out their ableton max plugin in Counter to see what I mean..will post vids of both, someone cough KRFT cough should incorporate this idea.

  • Oh also playgrounds new contest map sends general midi out which they want you to send to ableton...I am fiddling with making a mapping In other maps instead...not sure why they are so determined to make you use ableton, oh and you need ableton suite, the standard version won’t work

  • Great news I hope it includes all the bells and whistles of beatsurfing which seems to have been left behind.

  • Just make sure to keep it simple devs.

  • this update is just a stepping stone to the main show... Audio which they are thankfully working on right now.
