It definitely sounds like AUv3 should be supported.

    They are.

    w00t!

Sounds like AB3 will really strain my budget, if all developers decide to get into paid upgrades.

I doubt that will be the case. So far the only apps that are entirely new are the MIDI filter/controller apps. All other apps we've been working with during the beta will receive regular updates.

    Even better!

Will definitely want these MIDI filter apps, though. My hope is to reproduce the “Michael Brecker Effect” on iOS. You play a monophonic line with a MIDI controller (in my case, a WX-11 Wind Controller) and you get rotating chords underneath every single note you play. It’s working relatively well on macOS (or with iOS apps through MIDImux), but it’d be great to have something like MIDIflow with affordances for a chorder.

Sounds like a super nice idea for an additional Midiflow AB 3 app. I'm certain Johannes is already planning something like it.

I can't wait to wake up to 53 app updates on release day :)

TriqTraq just updated to AB3 today.

  • @Sebastian I located where you said AB3 will support iOS 9, and perhaps 8, but nothing about 32bit devices. If my iPhone 5 is left behind, I can deal, since I don't use it too heavily, but will the AB Remote app on it still talk to my newer iPad? I'm guessing so, since it's just BT being transferred, but I thought it worth asking.

And thank you in advance for the lovely birthday gift. You have five days left.

  • Good news AU is supported on release, I think that's a smart move.
Is there a countdown release clock ticking somewhere? :)

  • This may be a stupid question - but is AB3 a free update for current AB users?

  • Ok ignore me! I see in the first post in this thread that AB3 won't be a free upgrade. Ok!! I will just wait a few more days before I purchase - no point buying AB now if it's gonna be obsolete imminently.

In my head. Especially every morning when I wake up.

  • Does that means that we could see AU midi FX apps now. So that i could use several instances of an arp f.e.
Or are AUs are still limited to audio?
However, Audiobus is one of the greatest things happened to iOS music and i wish the developers all the best and a big thank you for that too!

  • Thank you!

MIDI AUX are not a thing yet, but that might change in the future.

Agreed! We may take it for granted but it’s pretty impressive, when you think about it.
In a way, Audiobus support is a sign that an app may meet a standard of quality. There probably are crappy apps which do support Audiobus, but it’s rare to find a great app which doesn’t support it.

Something similar is happening with Ableton Link. And adoption is spreading pretty quickly. All in all, we’re pretty lucky to have such a rich music app ecosystem on iOS.

Yep, I gaze in wide wonder at the delights lurking under each icon.

OK, most icons. "Find IPhone" and "Tips" can take a hike for starters.

This gazing is partly the reason I never actually finish anything ...

  • Here's a video where the musician has created a very complex MIDI control setup using AUM, MIDI Designer Pro, Bram Bos apps, midiLFOs, Moebius Lab, Genome, and some AU FX apps. It will be interesting to see what sorts of new setups will be possible when Audiobus 3 is released.
