Nice one, thanks
Thanks for the info @Sebastian !!
If you could take another look at my Q about AB2 EOL as well @Sebastian
- and the reason I added there for asking it. (Personally, I'll almost certainly stump up for AB3 - but as I said, I give support to others in education who may want to know if AB2 will continue to work and if so for how long, so they can budget).
@Sebastian
Okay, surely on a later version, but would you consider a kind of trace tool into AB3 ?
This tool would not be an excuse to scream at developers, but helping us to understand how our chain setup collapsed...
Which app started the collapse, does it interfere with other apps, do they also crash an other etc...till AB explose. (which rarely happens, but may need a relaunch, a reboot, or something like that...)
It would be a 2 part tool:
Green : all is fine. What to check : the latency, some other capital stuffs that you could check easily, maybe IAA connection also.
Yellow : warning. When the targeted latency is not reached, lots of midi datas processed, some other stuffs you know that can run, but we are not on a good road...
Red: something is really wrong : we are in "Zzzz" mode, the app has crashed, but did you get some info about that crash, like lost latency, then IAA, then too much ressources asked, overdose of midi datas from port 1 etc..., then crash.
Maybe this feature could be also applied to "Link" logo ? (there might be essential stuffs to know that Link works well)
If we see some stuffs going wrong, we could activate the second part of the tool:
2.In the settings, you could then activate or deactivate an active tracing, a simple log file that have traced the launching of each app, if it went good, a test again with already launched app, to see if everything still good, then play with our apps...Then if something turns wrong, we would have the order on what crash what...
Like this we have many options:
-We can check our config to see if we've done something bad.
-We can ask here on the forum to reproduce : can you test Loopy + Launchpad, then click open this : does it freeze also for you ? If not, we can check the hardware we use, that can be related to our setup...Then we give a proper feedback to the developers.
-We can put out the faulty app temporarily because we know this is the one that causes the crash. (and not praying that the song we are playing is gonna end the way we want...)
Or, if everything is good, we can make music till dawn, have sex and champagne.
You may think it's useless, but as we talked, we don't have anything to see why something is crashing or anything at all...
And as there's so many possible configurations...
Thanks for considering
Mhhh... I'm not sure if giving users this kind of detail will really accomplish anything. We're dealing with vastly complex systems here, with issues that very often cannot easily be attributed to a specific subsystem, sometimes they even appear because of race conditions, that differ between device classes, speeds, iOS versions, connection type, Bluetooth settings etc.
If there was a way for us to nail down errors in the way you're describing, our lives would be vastly simpler.
Having said this: we're already trying to give users more information about errors that we can detect with 100% certainty and crash logs are automatically transmitted anyway.
I've already answered that question. I don't have a specific date for this. And I honestly doubt any educators are affected by this. They get discounts and even so they only need to buy apps once if they use one account for their devices. I think this is a non-issue.
Honestly I really feel that the pricing of AB3 will not break any ones budget...
(I mean if a user goes out to enjoy a pizza they will most likely spend more than what asking price AB3 will be).
What he said.
Also: this forum exists because we either make a new Audiobus app or a new in-app purchase and you folks buy it once a year. If you like hanging out here... I don't know why I even need to explain this. I probably don't. ;D
Please don't bring pizza into this. The coffee thing I can deal with. But pizza, not because of the money, but you know, the idea of foregoing, you know, the pizza. Especially this pizza right here. Just round the corner. Sitting there right now.
I'm more for this one but might be biased as it is my friend and neighbour as well as his son being my daughter's play date. http://www.marioxford.co.uk
Oh ya, make it look like the Red Akai Eie dials! :-) ..or not :-(
Hey, that smacks of sometimes free beneath-the-counter-special-after-hours pizza. Can't beat that. And while Austin is a pretty cool place to be at this particular (albeit ever-moving) point in history I have a sentimental spot for Oxford. One of these fine and wholly imaginary days we'll have to figure out an exchange program.
Ummm. Sorry that's incorrect @Sebastian. (See link below - which is the Audiobus price for the Volume Discount for Education). If they have 1:1 iPads in a classroom of 15 children - (15 iPads) it adds up. They get zero discount on 1-19 units for Audiobus - i.e. $4.99 - and only get a discount of $2.49 on 20+ units.
Now, to you or me that might not be much. To teachers for whom a $5 iPad app is expensive (I run the FB iPads in Music Education group - and trust me, that's expensive for some teachers who have zero or little budget
), adding Audiobus + 3 or 4 other apps is often a total no-go - so they stick with GarageBand. So, if they have had an original budget to play with and have invested in Audiobus and 3 or 4 other apps, then it becomes very important. 15 * 4.99 = ~ $75. Just for Audiobus.

It is a ludicrous situation that teachers get given 1:1 iPads for their music classrooms and then end up with zero budget for stocking those iPads. It's a common concern.
(BTW: Getting teachers to consider a $10 app is extremely hard, and - well, you know, Cubasis? Auria Pro? Nah!
They have 15+ $300-$400 computers in their hands, and common questions are: "Can it run a metronome app?" "Can it run a tuner app?" "What are all the free apps - since I don't have a budget?" etc. etc. )
I nominate you to be the face, El Jefer, and general driving force of the 'Chuck in a Buck' Foundation whereby a growing group of devs sign on (along with Apple of course
) so that when I'm paying 8.99 for my app I can chuck in a buck extra which goes towards discounting/giving for free to schools that need decent apps etc etc.
I'm sure we have enough people here to help AudioBus with their commercial leadership of this effort
Logos, jingle, ad etc etc.
Good PR after all.....
'cept there's probably no way to implement it in the Apple store.
(That's where the foolish dream of Apple co-operation comes in Mister
)
I agree, but there's nothing we can do about that. And I'm not going to promise anything that we're not going to be able to keep.
Wasn't looking for any promises just estimates, guidelines and such

Now, that's an idea I'll give some serious thought to figuring out how to make work Mr. Johnny !
I just realised that MusicInclusive and Samu aren't the same person.
http://www.pepespizzeria.com/
Yeah, no need for paid catering on those often ridiculous kids birthday parties.
And yes, I'm glad I got stuck in Oxford. A bit of a bubble but in a positive sense. If you ever in the vicinity I'm just finishing my little music room, family space in the summer house (if not rented out) all mod cons.
That's good news for my ears.
Ha! That took me a while to figure out too.
Same.
He ain't me - I ain't him
(Besides, I buy frozen pizza and eat in
)
Forgive me one more little waving of a paw in the air
about the education market... The problem there for funding is that teachers aren't allowed to spend the money. Even if they were (as they often do do for other things) to stump up themselves for apps, the school IT policies often don't allow them to do so. I see teachers speaking of taking their own personal iPads into music classrooms to demonstrate things to children because they will pay for them but they're not allowed to have those same apps purchased for the class to work with, in spite of the fact that the school has spent thousands on the iPads (or had grants of thousands given them to buy the iPads).
BTW: I put a cookie there because it was the nearest thing to a brown bear paw
I love being around creative people
If AB3 does that, it's a world beater.
