"MYSTERY TO ME": App you never quite grasped?

WHAT APP DO YOU HAVE BUT NEVER GAVE IT MORE THAN A HALF ASS EFFORT BUT STILL WISH YOU UNDERSTOOD AND ACTUALLY USED THE APP?

I realize, I am a man of many regrets.

CREAM
AURIA PRO
MODSTEP
MITOSYNTH
AUDULUS
MIDI DESIGNER PRO
JASUTO
SUNVOX

In fact, I actually just started messing with MODSTEP this week. I bought MODSTEP and CREAM the first day they came out.

AURIA I will now give a try due to getting new $60 pointy stylus. Does it do AU?

  • Mitosynth. I get it, I understand what it's capable of, but it just doesn't grab me. No idea why. Kind of feel the same about DRC. These are both still installed though.

  • Drumperfect Pro, and Loopy. Makes my mind boggle.

  • The ones I've tried hard, but have been discouraged too easily: Yamaha Mobile Sequencer; MidiSequencer; Different Drummer.

The ones I really haven't put any effort into: too many to list, most of what I've bought.

  • WaveMapper
    iVCS3
    AnalogKit

I understand each a little bit but not enough to be able to have fun with it.

  • I get Audulus 3 but it's just too much work to make it go 'beep' and the UI is a eye-pain as I get eye-strain/fatigue after a few minutes of using it, sorry...

Jasuto is still a mystery to me. Never got to be friends with the rubberband modulation distance thing to make beeps.

With the recent update Mitosynth 'clicked' with me and It's quite clear to me now how it works.

ModStep never really 'clicked' with me but it's not impossible to use.

Being a tracker-user SunVox is next to second nature to the way I think.

I also gave PPG WaveGenerator a second chance and now I finally get it!

  • Fieldscaper
    iDensity
(neither of those should be surprising, but I do love Borderlands)
And Blocs Wave I just hate for some reason. Love the idea. Everything I do in it sounds terrible.

  • Diff.Drummer - just don't get it, but can still get cool from it.
Cream - well maybe one day lol.
iVCS3 - I know it's great, but I also know it does much more than I've been able to so far.
Enkl - such a simple synth, yet I struggle to get the best out of it....no idea why.

  • @ExAsperis99 I'm the same with blocs wave, I keep it around though hopin someday a lightbulb will go off and I'll know exactly what to do with it. Currently I just use it for drum loops on occasion

Understand the first, am absolutely puzzled at your bewilderment as regards the second. Nowt as queer as etc.

I've given Cream lots of quick tries after seeing what our friend Kaikoo could get out of it, but right now its learning curve is incompatible with my disposable tinker time. I'll need to take some time out for it and sit down with a tutorial at some point.

  • Cream is the only thing I've just straight given up on. No lookin back, either. Will never re-download.

  • Nave comes to mind. Sounds great, but is not intuitive to me. It even looks dark and foreboding. I tried the user manual and my eyes quickly glazed over. Maybe not its fault, just my density.

I've watched the vids, read the tutorials, but can never seem to get it to sync nicely. Roses, of great vulgarity.

  • MIDI Flow for me. I understand it but rarely can I get it to work. I know it's me because a lot of people on the forum are successful in using it to solve problems.

same here for Drumperfect and to a lesser degree Drumjam (I think I'm the only one)

woops, sorry. meant "Different Drummer". Not Drumperfect...

  • For me it's Loopy and Cubasis . I really tried to like them both ...... But they just never 'clicked' with me .

  • In general, and I think this is a differentiator (there's 10 types of people: those that understand binary, and the other nine) in that as most of you will know, I have absolutely no problem with complex synthesis, but (not counting GarageBand) even the allegedly simplest sequencer or arpegg on a computer seems too baffling and too much work to understand compared to the reward.

  • Gestrument - I keep it installed because i know it's awesome and i want to learn it

KQ mini synth - For a while i wanted to learn about modular synths but i never get around to it

For a long time, Modstep, but i recently used it for a couple of days and got it to click

Same with Cream. Bought it on launch day but never really took the time to learn it. After having lots of IAA issues with StepPolyArp i decided to give it another shot and finally got it

By the way, Different Drummer is freaking awesome and if you already bought it you really should give it another chance

I'm fascinated by, but for whatever reason, can't use Sunvox, Different Drummer, and Caustic. DD is already listed here several times; that's not surprising, but thinking about the huge diversity of apps available, I realize that like so many things...one man's junk is another's treasure. So it's not surprising for me to see the likes of Blocs Wave or Loopy mentioned as well.

@jn2002dk - I should re-download DD and give it another try, I haven't checked it out in a long time and I've missed some big updates.

  • different drummer, cream

  • People will know that I love the 'vox and can't fathom why others fall at such early hurdles with it.
    I share @MonzoPro 's awkwardness with Loopy.
Noatikl and Mixtikl for the author's utter contempt for usability.
Ims-20 I just can't make it sing and really wish I could.
Gadget because it didn't want to travel.

  • Sunvox: The way some folks go on about it I feel like I'm missing out on something. Alas, never having got into trackers I find that the UI eludes me.

And there came a wailing across the land and a gnashing and a crashing of boots and loud weapons, especially pointy pikes and braziers full of white hot coals for putting in his jimjams with and, Lo, and with violent conviction did we angry villagers proceed to the bad man's house for what would be the very last time....

    Lol (thinks better reload Bebot)

    • Borderlands. I've spent a lot of time with it, and believe I understand its workings very well. Everything I get out of it sounds about the same, and none of that can I find any use for. But I still pull it out for hours at a time trying.
    • Drum Perfect Pro. Again, I get it's operation totally, but something about its sequencer and workflow just relegates it from a tool that I would use for composition to something I would probably only drag out if I needed more realism in a piece I already composed and needed to take to the next level. I mean ... what kind of drum app makes you go through the hoops that this one does just to choke off an open high hat when you play the closed hat? Meh. Sounds great though, so I really wish I liked it better.
    • Animoog. Probably the most puzzling to me. It's the first synth I bought. It blew my mind at first. I know it's fabulous. I lose interest after five minutes. I simply can't fathom why.

I keep thinking that getting people to buy Bebot is like some hazing ritual for all Forum newbies. It's ... fine.

Different Drummer, for me, even with the new interface. I've heard great things, but it just completely evades me.

I can't explain it, but I've never been able to get loopy to record from other apps consistently. I'm sure it is just a configuration issue, but I've never figured out how to get the recording to start in sync with the start point of the audio I want to loop.
