Thinking about the Korg Triton Tactile 25
Any thoughts on it? Does anybody have it? I have read a couple reviews that the output of the internal sounds are low. The firmware has apparently been updated to control Gadget, which is another selling point for me.

I agree with Peter...I don't own or used this keyboard.
@crony thanks. Didn't see that thread.
Gadget isn't super important. I currently have a Novation launchkey 25 but it doesn't have many options. I love my axiom 49 but want a smaller more portable controller with options.
Find a used Novation X-Station 25 for the win. Only downside is that it can't be bus powered. Otherwise, pretty much unmatched in my book. On board synth, great knob layout, stereo audio IO with effects, decent Arpeggiator...
If you ditch the sounds and don't mind mini keys the Akai MPK Mini Mk II is a good deal for $99. It has 8 pads and 8 knobs.

@syrupcore I will check it out and see.
@mkell424 Not necessarily looking for one with sounds, it was just that this deal on amazon caught my eye.

I mean for $137.99 it seems like a pretty good deal.
Would take a while to find an X-25 at that price but it can be done. Think I got mine for around $150 (175?) with a nice Novation backpack that fit it. That did take a few months of trolling Craigslist and EBay.
It does sound really good though! Plus all the controller goodness.

There is one on craigslist but no pictures for $120. Not sure if I want to have to plug in. Thinking of something bus powered.
I might go a completely different route and get an Arturia MiniLab Black edition. $99 and the black edition comes with a heap of extra software. So many decisions.
I think the biggest thing that is drawing me to the Korg Triton Tactile is the price, built in sounds(might be nice to have), arpegiator and the xy pad.
It depends, I had a X-49, nice sound indeed, but as I was more using the ipad, to sequence and the synths etc...never had a chance to really use it...
As it seems you're looking for portability, I'd rather have a full controller without any internal synth...
I might recommend this one

Full midi implementation, midi bi-directional...
Funnily enough I've been looking into the standard Tactile 25 tonight, looks like a more robust option to the Nanokey Studio
I was considering a taktile 49 as a replacement for my Samson Carbon but given how they have already disappeared from all the major showrooms with recommendations for other options I was wondering if the taktile 49 suffered some troubles I was not aware of? Also wondering about future support as they seem to be out of production after just a short time.
I was choosing between this and mpk225, bought later
@crony that looks pretty awesome but above my budget right now. I do like how the 25 key model has the same amount of knobs, faders, and buttons as the 49 key version.
I would have to sell my Quneo in order to get one.
That puts me off. I'm replacing an abandoned Edirol, so don't want to end up with another expensive door stopper...
@MonzoPro @Tritonman Haven't thought about that point. I was kind of wondering why they were not for sale in some places. For $137 though, as long as it can be manually programmed, it would work for me.
My main controller is an Axiom 49 Mk2 and I love that thing.
I replaced my Carbon 49 with the Korg Taktile 49. I did not like the keyboard action on the Carbon 49; it was cheap feeling and springy. The taktile 49 has fantastic keyboard action; not quite as good as my Yamaha MOX6, but close. If you are a keyboard player, you will really appreciate the taktile's keyboard.
There are Gadget templates available to download for the taktile 49; although I haven't tried them yet. I like the extra pots, faders and drum pads on the 49 version over the 25. The X/Y pad is fantastic; it can be used like the kaossilator for effects.
I purchased the taktile 49 shortly after Korg dropped its price to $149.00. Really worth the price.
Taktile does not have the aftertouch, don't know if it matters to you or not...
@crony this is why I love this forum. So many people with so much knowledge.
I do love me some aftertouch. Someone has an Axiom Air 25 on craigslist for $120. I know it has aftertouch and all the other goodies that I love about my Axiom 49. I am a creature of habit sometimes.
I'm feeling a bit stung with my Edirol. It's not that old, physically good as new, but I can't use it at the mo as they've stopped updating the drivers (or until I can find a workaround) for it.
I don't want to be in the same position in a couple of years, so I'm thinking if getting something recent, and cheap.
The one you're looking at though has the benefit of internal sounds so I presume if could carry on as a standalone if they abandon it. Maybe they won't, maybe Korg will treat their customers better than Roland.
@gmslayton Ok if it suits you, go for the Axiom.
Just make sure it has a robust editor...Not sure about that, and midi learn is not covering all apps.
@MonzoPro Is the Edirol class compliant?
I can be a total shill for the x-station, I know, but gotta say: it has all of these things. Plus audio IO (with 1/4" and clean inputs).
And built in effects (which can process the internal sounds, USB audio and/or the analog inputs.
Annnnnd it's really hard to overstate how useful it is to have a keyboard controller laid out like a freaking synthesizer with fixed sections for OSC, Filter, 2x ADSR, LFO etc. When you, for instance, map the physical knob labeled "resonance" to the resonance control within your favorite apps, you don't have to do the "wait, was resonance slider 3 or knob 4?" thing—you just play. Like a hardware synth. It's silly there's nothing modern laid out like this.
@syrupcore you drive a hard bargain. I am still considering one. The only drawback is need to plug into the wall.
I just found an Edirol PCR-800 for $80. Seems to work with iPad. Not sure why people are having driver issues with Mac. If it works with iOS I would assume its Class Compliant.
It runs on batteries also.
Forgot about that. Good'un.
Taktile 49 user here....works well with iPAD via a low power mode...but not required if using something like an iAudioConnect. Every thing works smoothly when mapping to AU parameters and AUM transport.
Comes with the Korg Legacy collection and some other software.
The Edirol PCR and Roland A Pro keyboards allow for mapping to hardware via sysex NRPN, which most controllers do not . The A Pro software mapping utility is nicer, may even work with PCR also..not sure.
Was considering the purchase of a PCR/ A Pro for sysex functionality, but maybe BCR2000 has the edge due to what I believe is sysex stacking of messages on a single control
Regarding sysex functionality, the Opendeck Project looks nice for building a controller with up to 64 buttons or 32 encoders and mapping the controls from a browser.
@chris_foster Thanks for the info. I usually use a powered hub so low power mode not an issue.
I also don't have any hardware but I was intrigued by the Edirol PCR-800, when I found on on craigslist for $80 with a stand. It appears to be in perfect condition. Not sure if I should jump on that one or not.
Seems like a good deal having direct control of external hardware. The Taktile does not have NRPN/RPN functionality.
Here's an example of hardware control from a PCR (the X-Station can also do this):
Wow never heard of the PCR-800 before, it has a crossfader also ! At that price, if there's a good midi editor, seems a great deal (if you also need a crossfader )
I haven't been able to get mine working yet, maybe someone withbetterbrains would have more success but I'll keep trying...the iPad just tells me 'this device is not supported' though.
@crony everyone needs a crossfader. hehe. Not sure what I would use it for but I am sure I could think of something.
@MonzoPro Bummer. It seems other people have had success with it. I wonder if its a power issue. I think I might ask the guy on craigslist if I can come test out my iPad to make sure it works before committing to purchase. If it does work and he will sell it for $60, then it might be a no brainer. It doesn't solve my problem with wanting a portable midi controller though.
