Thinking about the Korg Triton Tactile 25

I have the PCR 300, it is a great midi controller, works well with iPad and somewhat underrated.
    Has MIDI in,out.
Excellent editor, all editing can be done onboard no PC necessary but makes it easier and faster.
But if you get it, make sure that you have a USB 2 port on your PC. It doesn't work with USB 3!!!

I had also remote SLMKII 25 (for a month or two), but got rid of it, because of how the software is done, too many steps to do simple things like changing midi channels...
I am not putting SLMKII down, it's just it didn't click with me, the Edirol is better though out IMO.

@MonzoPro , did you take it out of the advanced driver mode?

  • @soundklinik I don't mind editing manually, thats what I have to do with my Axiom Gen 2. Do you know if it works with Mac OS X? I assume since it works with the iPad it would work with a Mac as well. It seems it would be a really nice controller for MainStage for live performance.

  • @gmslayton , I didn't mean that it's bad, on the contrary, I like the fact that if I need to change a CC, I can do it on the spot. For big editing or template I use PC.

If you google Edirol PCR 300, it will take you to their site and under the download part you can see all the OS X that it supports, I have a PC windows 7 64bit and no clue about Mac.

If it works on Mac, it's a great controller for the money ....

There isn't a driver for the latest OSX - interesting what you say about USB ports though, think they're USB 3 on mine, so maybe that's an issue.

I'll try again with the iPad - I'm using an external power supply but still tells me the device isn't supported.

    Monzo I think I know what's wrong.
First you need to go into PCR, /Edit/, turn the value knob until it says "SYS", press ENTER.
Use VALUE knob and turn to SY10. Press Enter.
Readout should say oFF. This is for a system driver. It will never work if it says "on", which is for advanced driver.

Next you must use an unpowered USB splitter. It refuses to work without it. The same goes for my Arturia BSP sequencer.

The USB 3 port makes it crash on PC for installing the PCR editor. Nothing to do with iPad.
Hope this will help you solve this.

That's great, thanks for your help.

I've been looking at an Akai controller and that has the same issues with iPad's, and needs the hub workaround so that makes sense. Thanks for the link, I'll get one of those little hubs, and hopefully I can get the PCR to work with the iPad.

Would the hub workaround work with my Mac laptop USB3 issue?

  • Long time ago I was thinking about getting the Triton Taktile and The triton version especially so I could have access to some classic Korg Sounds.

I'm still hoping Korg will add more Triton sounds as IAPs to Module...

  • I saw a Triton Taktile 25 for $90 on ebay but i was too suspicious to buy it.

  • I went to guitar center yesterday to finger some gear and maybe get my hands on a taktile. The guy I talked to said they never had any in the store but he said anytime they get a used Triton in, its sold within a day. People snatch them up super quick.

The 25 seems to be selling on amazon for $137.99, which seems like a great deal considering the built in sounds. I think as soon as my Launchkey 25 sells on craigslist, I will be ordering one.

  • @bsantoro @chris_foster how does the xy koas pad feel? I had a nanopad2 and returned it almost as quickly as I bought it. I didn't like the pads and the xy felt really cheap to me, unusable cheap.

I wish I could go to a music store and get my hands on a taktile but it seems they are no where to be found.

I have the nanopad2 also. I found the taktile 49 to be a little more solid and smooth than the nanopad. I also have the Korg padKONTROL which in my opinion is the ultimate drum pad machine. The nanopad and taktile feel stiffer than the padKONTROL; and I have to hit harder to match the same velocity sensitivity of the PadKONTROL.

When I use the padKONTROL with an app like SampleTank for drums, the dynamic sensitivity is fantastic. When using the taktile, I have to tap a little harder to get the same results; even after adjusting the velocity curves with the editor. If I didn't have the padKONTROL, I would think the taktile was pretty good.

The padKONTROL needs AC power however; but it is worth it to me.

  • @bsantoro thanks.

I found this video showing midi in triggering sounds of the Taktile via usb to 5 pin midi.

Can you sequence the internal sounds with the iPad? Does it show up as a destination in midi apps like Genome, pro midi, or any that will send midi out?

Will more than likely be ordering the triton taktile 25 when I get back into town next week.

  • I love my Taktile. You can program it on the unit without a computer editor which is so great. Sounds are pretty good and yes you can sequence it from an iPad if you want to, but the USB doesn't transmit audio so you will have to loop the audio back into the iPad with an interface. No aftertouch and sometimes hard to see what the buttons are in low light, but you can't beat it for e price mentioned.

  • @Ringleader awesome. Mine will be here tomorrow morning when the good ol' mail truck comes.

Plan on doing an unboxing and first impressions video tomorrow too. Never done an unboxing video and I don't purchase new gear often so I figured I would take this opportunity.
