Is there a way to do a ratcheting thing with the sequencer?
Was there word on whether this could be added or not?

Sorta. If you increase the steps and the clock division for a track you can do that kind of thing.

Why does that get said in my head by Ian Dury?

    That would be cool indeed!

I have asked the dev through the website today, hopefully they will see the benefit of this and add it. It would be a great feature to allow either the random playback or rotation individually on any of the LAYER parameters (VELOCITY/TUNE/PAN/ATTACK/FILTERS ETC...)

YES YES YES YES YES YES, thank you for requesting this! If he implements this feature I will forgive all devs for not supporting the Panning initiative of 2016... Ben please , please please, (in the voice of James Brown) please implement this feature for VELOCITY/TUNE/PAN/ATTACK/FILTERS ETC...

    Please

  • :D I ain't too proud to beg, Ben and Marcos are sitting on top of 'meaning of life' apps but when you hear them talk it's like they hardly notice

According to The Wiki he was born at his parents' home at 43 Weald Rise, Harrow Weald, Middlesex (though he often pretended that he had been born in Upminster, Essex, which all but one of his obituaries in the UK national press stated as fact.)

My old man wore three piece whistles....

Hmmm. Would be nice to have something in the list of "layer" parameters that divedes the step for the selected part. So something like "Division" that could be adjusted like all other parameters but with values from 1/4 to 1/32.
This would achieve the 'ratcheting' I was looking for I think. And be an awesome addition (I think)

  • The old app Loopsegue (Loopseque?) had a cool feature I'd love to see in Patterning: you could set a given step to trigger on every other loop. Was a great way to extend a 16 step interface. In Patterning, we have probability which is way cooler but sometimes you're not looking for random—you're looking to have something trigger every 32 steps. Would be even cooler if it had something like "trigger every N loops" where N could be anywhere between 1 and 8. Cymbal crashes anyone?

You've reminded me of a very long time ago, speaking to a bored careers officer who had me down as system fodder. Because it was on his form he asked me what I wanted to be. When I said a Witcheta Lineman, he told me to get out....and I never looked back. *

    • Alas, I never got to hear the singing in the wires.
  • edited August 2016

@syrupcore Yeah. Definitely. Have been wishing/thinking about this for a while and every time I open up Loopseque for ten minutes this is the feature I end up making more of than any other. The idea of widening to 'N' is even better.

  • i wish I could contribute to a crowdfunder, kickstarter, or whatever that was focused on getting this app dialed into being seen as a certain developmental priority.
I would pay more for this app, pay a subscription fee for features, or anything else the dev wanted to get this app on the fast track...... the potential here is just mind boggling and I would have already jumped off the highest rooftop over the frequency of Patterning and Samplr updates if it wasn't for the likes of Igor Vasilev, J-dilla, and a few other devs...... Do you guys communicate with the Patterning Dev, does he understand that the peace and prosperity of all man kind hangs in the balance and on the back of Patterning updates?

  • Is there a way to rotate all the patterns 3 steps bacwards at the same time?

    in pattern screen-

    • Auto-rotate (-3)
    • Apply to All
      ?

    Excellent idea. +1

    Thirded.

Think we're up to 6th'd, so 6th'd. Imagine this would make the most sense as a 'Humanize' screen for the track where the right column has horizontal sliders (like the sample tab) for Velocity, Tune, Pan etc that default to 0. Sliding to the right increases the amount of variation though that sorta dictates that the variation would be both above and below the step's value.

  • with all of Patternings unique features it would be nice to have an intelligent randomizer button, like on elastic drums.and Seekbeats where you could leave out what you didn't want to change or randomize all of it.

I requested to Ben a Zoom/Multiply resolution type function , so when activated, increasing the number of steps scaled any existing pattern across the new total number.
So doubling the steps would insert an extra step between programmed notes etc , allowing smaller resolution editing without having to reprogram the original pattern as present.
I also requested an OFF - AUTO option to the Rotate function , as I often just want to rotate once , whether to try out or then keep what works for a particular pattern.

BTW there was a post on FB Ipad Musicians forum showing an Olympia graphics tease of code with chords e.g Cm7 . It seems something new or a big update is coming .
I am hoping it is "Sequenting " , a full featured midi note sister sequencer to Patterning ,
using the existing circular design but with fully implemented note /chord/cc sequencing.

wasn't he talking about working on chordion or something recently which I also have and really like so looking forward to that, but Patterning is in a whole other vital stratosphere.

  • I do wish chordion had midi in as well though so we could sequence it.
