However, I was interested in the Apple AU effects, are they used in any other apps currently ?

Haven't seen them in any other apps. Curious as to why they are not surfaced in Cubasis. There's also a rumored AUSampler somewhere enbedded in the OS. Any thoughts on this @Samu ?

  • I got it.

Shit, AU's with MIDI notation on IPhone.

This is first app to do it.

2 bucks, I will try it.

ZMors Modular uses some of the 'built-in' AUs but they need to be 're-packaged' as AUv3(With added UI) to be useable.

And yes there is a built-in 'AUSampler' but to my knowledge there is no app out yet that fully exposes it to the user.
(It's capable of playing soundfonts, exs24 files etc.).

I'm guessing one of the reasons why Apple just lets them audio-units sit there is because they don't really have any proper Touch-UI and are in reality just a bunch of frameworks waiting to be used by developers.

As for making them all the built-in audio-units available in Cubasis it's something (@LFS) and hist team can take a look at if they see it suitable for implementation without too much hassle...

I paid for the cheapest subscription because i think it has a lot of potential

It does have som bugs at the moment but i'm in love with the highly configurable step sequencer that's available for each track

  • Is the free app the only way to have it without subscribing?

    Unfortunately, yup

  • :(!! Thank you for the answer.

Well, I think most of us will agree that today's Appstore is for the most part a dysfunctional economy. From the developer's perspective iOS is like a beautiful city, but if you want to start a business there you quickly find out that none of its residents are willing to pay for bread, groceries or any other goods that are essentially vital to sustain life there. So the entire city is living off a few people willing to work for free*. That's simply not sustainable in the long term.

As I mentioned in another thread: there should be a Pro-Appstore (also to justify the existence of pro-level iOS devices) where a professional tier of iOS software (aimed at musicians, photographers, designers, video editors, illustrators, etc.) is sold at reasonable prices: a balance between what software is really worth to people and what makes life possible for serious developers - rather than just philantropists and a few gold-diggers hoping to create the next Flappy Bird..

    B)

*) free, or minimal remuneration for the invested efforts

A Pro-Appstore for musicians would be awesome but it also require a Pro-OS with pro standards (audio/midi routing with sensible file storage). Right now our music apps are awesome fun toys and priced accordingly.

that's quite interesting...so if someone just took the time to build UI and an AUV3 wrapper we could have a pretty flexible AU sample player.

I just checked macOS and the AUSampler is surfaced in Logic...not pretty but is got an interface. I wonder if the Coreaudio team intends to update the iOS version to AUv3 themselves.

I somehow feel Apple will let the audio-units of the core audio framework be as they are (a bunch of functions for developers to use and exploit). As an example many games use the AUSampler to play sound effects so messing with the 'core' of the system could cause a lot of apps to malfunction.

Remains to be seen if the ZMors Modular developer manages to create a AUv3 'wrappers' for most of AUv2 features and give them an UI that would then be available to all apps...

Maybe in One Year. We must pay for One hour iPad Music Making

haha, that would make us all more productive, no?

  • Just to let everyone know, that I had an email from them. Which doesn't leave a bitter taste in my mouth now, after I purchased N-Track a while ago.so anyone else who bought this DAW........ Here it is............... :)

"If you purchased a previous iOS or Android version of n-Track Studio the upgrade to v8 is free up to the 31st of January 2017.
After that date the app requires an in-app subscription of $0.99/month (Standard edition) or $1.99/month (Pro edition).
To activate n-Track Studio 8 make sure you have the old app installed when you launch the new. The new app detects wether the old version was installed and activates the free subscription up to January 31, 2017.
You can remove the old app once the 'Upgrade to the full version' box no longer appears.

Note that the upgrade is not valid across different operating systems, i.e. if you purchased n-Track for iOS you can upgrade to n-Track Studio 8 for iOS but not for Android, and vice-versa."

  • @studs1966 Did your previous version stop working?

@studs1966 Did your previous version stop working?

No. But with both version 8 kept crashing. Now I have delete the old version, & it seems better(stable)
    at the mo.

  • I am trying the free version and I am puzzled with MIDI config. I can't sync it to my BSP sequencer..
Nlog doesn't see it....It is not listed, only the sound card.

How good is the MIDI in from external gear? Anybody succeed ?
I really don't find this app very intuitive...

  • So @studds1966 you're saying previous n-Track users get a free new fully loaded DAW and have until January 2017 to see if it's too buggy or whatever before they have to start coughing up 2 bucks a month? Even if I hated subscriptions I think that's a generous way to test out an app.

Possibly in conflict with 3.1.2(a) Permissible uses, which reads, in part:

If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For example, let customers who have already purchased a “full game unlock” continue to access the full game after you introduce a subscription model for new customers.

  • Anybody have a problem getting this to connect with Audiobus? I open AB then n-Track as an output, and there's no transport bar, no AB as an input, and when I go back to AB and pick an input there's no connection.

  • Why have all the reviews for the previous versions of this app disappeared from the App Store? I thought reviews were supposed to inform potential buyers good or bad of their experiences of that particular app.

Like many other people I left a very negative review of a previous version of N Track Studio because I'd never used an app with so many bugs, I can't find the review.

Now this new version has turned up with it's new pricing structure and is getting the usual 'positive' exposure in all the usual IOS music places. I'll be keeping a eye open to see what the subscribers think of this software as time goes by, or as time goes buy in this case.

  • I gave it a try because of it's multichannel hardware features (I'm ok with their price model)
But with my focus on audio, I found it an inoperable fiddling mess - sorry
Maybe the midi sequencing stuff is cool, didn't even try.
The provided instruments sound like shit (which really surprised me - a decent GM soundset is far from rocket science...)
Same (according to my taste) applies to the reverbs and pictures as menu items offend me anyway.

  • Hi everyone!
Following up the discussion that took place here when we announced n-Track Studio 8 for iOS, and after the feedback we received from our users about their reservations regarding the subscription model, we’ve now added the option to buy the new n-Track Studio 8 with a one time payment.

You can now buy the full version at 29,99$, featuring the same functionalities available in the Pro subscription:
    Step Sequencer
    Support for AU3
    Advanced Routing
    Improved MIDI and effects
    Improved Gestures and Editing
    New and improved UI

    http://www.ntrack.com/ios-multitrack-studio.php

If you instead prefer to pay the app as you go you can still subscribe to the Standard version at 0,99$ monthly or to the Pro one at 1,99% monthly

  • I despise the idea of a monthly subrscription and hope this idea falls on its face. Just charge a fee and be done with it!! What a hassle.....

  • I got it and cancelled it instantly. I think I may have been hasty. I went back and tried it while my month was still active on IPhone and it worked nice. This was after the two updates since I got it weeks earlier.

    May be worth it.

I'm on my 2nd month subscription and while there are still a few issues namely with AUs i find it very easy and fast to try out ideas

I absolutely love how each track can have it's own step sequencer. Brilliant

Also, there have been lots of updates and bug fixes during this period which is always a plus

  • I appreciate any developer who is willing to re-think something and change it based off of our opinions, which he just did. Gives me hope for Tabletop getting AB (sort of.?)
The way it worked out, I got to try a good DAW for two bucks so I can see if I wanna keep it for the regular price. It's kind of like if we'd been able to try out Auria or Cubasis for $2. Even if you hate the product, you have to like this sneaky way to let people test your app for a low price and then buy it later. Btw it's a pretty darn good darn DAW too.

@ntrackdev, One thing also they should be a IAP Upgrade like Auria, from the old App to Version 8 Pro for users who already had the old App.
