Dagnabbit! Another app I gots to buy. At least things are cheap on iOS. They'd probably want $50 for this on my Windows desktop pc.
just bought it. i've been waiting for it ever since i saw thesoundtestrooms' video of it last week. can't wait till i get home tonight to try it out. also kind of wonder how my circuit bent sk-1 will fair if i run it through the app...
A word of wisdom to everyone...in another thread the developer (SecretBaseDesign) advised that over the weekend his app(s) will be out on sale for the release of "Midimorphosis" (it's reg price is $4.99). So if you can wait an extra day or two it will drop in price as will I believe VoxKit and not sure about his other apps.
This came from the developer himself in another thread, so thought I'd share!
huzzah. Congrats @secretbasedesign. Can't wait to try it.
so are you saying that Midimorphosis will be on sale?
Should be....over the weekend
I already had this app apparently. Don't remember ever buying it tho. Was it always called Midimorphosis?
No, there was a name change. Can't think of it off hand, but something like audio to midi connect.
Ok thanks, yea I remember downloading some app with that name or similar name at least, was free at release for a while. Seems to have gone through a lot of changes since then, completely new interface and all. Anyway mystery solved!
Hi -- app is now live, and the intro price is $2. This is a rebuilt version of Audio MIDI Connect -- complete rewrite, and new name, but we didn't want to screw anyone who bought AMC, so it's being pushed out as an update of the old app. Our other apps are also on sale this weekend (Spectral Eye Pro is free -- the Spectral Eye code was a by-product of developing MIDImorphosis).
Here's a demo video from yours truly; I'll have another one up detailing the off-line conversion in a few days. Let me know if you have questions!
Thanks. Excellent demo video.
Price is showing up as $4.99. I'll try again in the morning.
It's at $1.99 now!
SOLD.
Voxkit, too. I already had Spectral Eye pro, though I haven't used it much.
Is LiveGuitar usually 10 bucks?
Live Guitar should be $1 now; I had it at $5 before. I don't think it was ever $10.
Grabbed MIDIMorphosis before I left for work. Can't wait for the day to be over so I can test drive it!
Liveguitar: purchased
Ooh, I just thought of one important feature that might make me want this:
will it operate while in the background?
@Htmx Yes, it has to with AB support.
@hmtx yes it does
@anyone is dialing in transpose steps next to impossible or am I doing it wrong? It jumps like crazy and the list takes over the scroll. Fine adjustments are completely hit and miss for me. Took me two minutes to wrangle it down an octave. Tell me there's easier way and I was just too drunk (though I wasn't drinking).
Tracks wonderfully and I had a blast playing with it for an hour last night, minus the transpose frustration. Secret bonus: midi out for my sh-101! Crazy steal at this price.
OK, to clarify: Will it listen to and transpose audio to MIDI while in the background? I'm guessing yes, since its the app's main function, but...
Thumbjam does audio to MIDI pretty well, but it loses mic input as soon as you switch to another app. So, I'm guessing it is a separate issue from the Audiobus background audio requirement.
Octave adjust would be pretty important for me too, especially since on my acoustic guitar higher octaves ranges seem to transpose better than low ranges.
@hmtx yes. Plus, polyphony!
awesome piece of kit , tracks better than any midi guitar I have used (lots)
what a bargain....yammy pacifica-midimorph-nave-aufx space = heaven.
@Syrupcore -- the transpose (and MIDI channel) controls are way too finicky. You can tap on the left or right of the number to go up or down one step, or swipe. It needs to be easier to control, and I'll rebuild that part of the interface for the next release.
@Hmtx -- ThumbJam can send MIDI out to other apps, and you can run things in the background. There's a couple of toggles to throw (I turn off the internal sounds, turn on MIDI output, and turn on the background switch). ThumbJam does a good job, and IMO, they handle vocals better than MIDImorphosis (I hope to step up my game there, but right now, I've got to give props to Sonosaurus on that).
@jsb -- glad you dig it! I'm pleased with what it's able to do on an iPad/iPhone. I've got a Fishman TriplePlay, and the hardware solution beats the software one hands down. The Rolands I've played have also been fantastic. I'm trying to position the app as a low-cost solution for "average players" -- the Fishman/Roland gear is for people who shred, and are also very serious about MIDI guitar.
For faster playing -- it can handle higher speeds, but the latency is what kills things. The notes trigger about 35ms after the guitar note strike (assuming a synth with good response -- BS-16i is great, the slower pad sounds on things like Animoog or Alchemy make things worse). In my testing, the Fishman is closer to 25ms -- which puts it in another class (as well as having a hexaphonic pickup). If you play quickly, and the notes trigger slightly behind, it throws off your timing, and then the wheels come off completely. The app has off-line processing, so it's possible to lay down a clean guitar track "live," and then "midi-fy" the recording.
Thanks @secretbasedesign. I'll try just tapping tonight and see if that helps.
@Hmtx, just to answer your question, you are right that TJ shuts off the pitch tracking feature when you go to the background, and although this was intentional, it was a silly decision. I'll fix it in the next release!
[Edit] - there is one workaround, if-and-only-if you put TJ into the Output Slot of Audiobus then it will actually continue working in the background with pitch tracking feature! But you have to put the mic in the input slot, to get the default behavior.
Thanks for the frank comparison to Thumbjam, S.B.D. Its refreshing. I was trying to figure out how to tiptoe around the issue in this thread for your app, ;-)
I'm going to kick myself if I find out I've been just forgetting to turn on background audio in Thumbjam! Maybe that's another reason to pick up MIDIMorphosis: is it easier to set up? Edit: thanks for the info @sonosaurus!
I want to say that I love this community of users and developers, and the degree of interaction and responsiveness I see developing in the iOS music scene. Am I wrong that it is unprecedented?
@jsb "tracks better than any midi guitar I have used (lots)" - this statement is probably just an exaggeration. As secretbasedesign has said above, the Rolands are in another class. Try the Roland VG99 but then again we are talking about a kit which is $1000 plus. The VG99 is probably the best virtual guitar system out there and it has phenomenal MIDI capabilities and it is also an audio interface. I'm just putting things in perspective here.
@ secertbasedesign - I love this app and I've given it an excellent review on the UK App Store. What I particularly love about it is you can also use your voice to play synths and I'm getting some amazing textures (trade secets). Awesome. Just bought Live Guitar as well and I'll give it a good spin. I believe I have all of your apps as I like your humanist approach as an iOS developer and will always support your efforts.
@FrankieJay Sorry didnt know you knew me & all the kit Ive used in my 66 years on this planet.
