@orchardman
Wow, thank you. Gone dizzy! Certainly carried some of that Mediterranean sun back in your suitcases with you. What the hell is going on down here? You've obviously been working on a new happy, hippy, folk masterpiece.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Brilliant! Did make me laugh. Think "Slaves" type drum/vocals combo could be a possibility........but as he stands while tub thumping, a purpose built, drum friendly Zimmer frame will have to be constructed first.
@theconnactic thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it.
@JohnnyGoodyear Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you liked the piano bit, I'll pass your praise onto the mrs.
@trackedout thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it.
@RickH Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you liked it.
@richardyot Thanks for the feedback. Yes it is SoftDrummer at the start which morphs into FunkDrummer later on. The intention was to write a piano based ballad but it just sort of morphed into something else. We did try and fit some vocals in but just couldn't get them to work so we left as an instrumental. Maybe in Part2
@richardyot Great little song, I especially liked the intro, for a beat up 12 string you managed to capture a great guitar tone. As I often find with your vocals, I'm not quite sure when you start singing but after a little while they do just seem to work. Enjoyed this one a lot.
@richardyot , I guess maybe your right. But to me it was mor a feeling than a sound. An environment I Emagined . Like I said day dreaming . And brmc??? A lot of acid and heroin .. ... a lot! I just don't hear it!! :-)
@trackedout the sound of the vocal just reminded me of "rifles", just something in the drawled delivery. But as I said in the other thread, don't take it to heart, the associations that come in to my head might not make sense to you.
@orchardman You've both left all of your progness out there on the field with this. Maybe not. I see see there will be a sequel. Or more! Strange not to be hearing your wife's beautiful vocals on one of your tracks although I did enjoy your foray across the bridge into instrumental land. Because you're talented musicians, the transition was natural.
Some seriously top sounding drums. That snappy, almost rim shot snare that smashes in after the hypnotic brush work, drives the heavier sections powerfully along. Can feel the air whoosh from the stick descending to the skin. Tons of gorgeous sounds jump into my ears over the course of your song and I hope you gave your synth collection a good seeing to. Done a great job twiddling on the EQ and mixing duties to allow all the instruments their own space to grow and bloom. My favourite section is at 2.42 when Predator makes a whispered guest vocal before the jungle type sounds and that chugging riff underneath.
Nice one. So this is Part 1. How many more episodes have you two got up your short, sun tinged sleeves?![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@richardyot Bear Grylls. That's who you remind me of. Finding yourself in unfamiliar, hostile territory having to survive. An old olive green tarpaulin cover that you had to pilfer from a nearby small holding to use as shelter from the storms. Living off the land, snacking on Kent bat and having to rehydrate by squeezing liquid drops from cow pats. Not only that, you find the energy to knock out a hit single as you're blackening your thumbs, knocking up a loo from ancient, wood worm infested pallets.
That's why you're the gaffer around these parts. Lead by example. You will NEVER brake the chain no matter what the circs.
I hope you get sorted very soon but when you do eventually pack that suitcase away in the attic, you check on its well being from time to time and record another tune in this "punk" way. We've all this shiny high tech stuff that can over process our creations but when all the polished chrome is stripped back.....it's all about the song......the soul. "I don't have the pedigree"........bollox! You do. Love hearing (feeling) those guitar stabs. Clear, live. An unplugged Richard in session, sat on a tree stump.
Not quite is quite enough. I like this musical "not quite" you. Leaves room to go up or down. Freedom. Last point - I know most of the charity shops down there and there hasnt been a 12 stringer passing through since Johnny Marrs! Hours of wood whittling and tuning up bailer twine I reckon.......Bear Grylls style..........you're a tough cookie. Well bloody done boss, fine pop song.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@Bluepunk I should commission you to write my back story![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
@RickH Nice funky tune with some interesting melodies - the arrangement is all built around the variations in the melodies (which are very good) with elements dropping in and out. It would be nice if there was more variation in the bass and drums though, the drums in particular are just the same loop used throughout and I think there would be a lot more in terms of dynamics if they were more varied, and the bass could also do with more variety. Overall though it was an enjoyable track.
@Bluepunk thanks for the enthusiastic feedback as always. We did try and put some vocals on it but couldn't get anything to work. The drums are Softdrummer at the start and they morph into Funkdrummer for the louder bits.
Not sure when we will get round to Part2, we will be back to our usual stuff for November and of course we have got the much anticipated Xmas single set for December so it will probably be in the new year. By which time I would have probably bought a ton of new synths to only use once. Thanks again.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
First page and SoundCloud updated. Mr Goodyear, where is your entry for this month?
Probably had to rewrite his lyrics after Wednesday nights shock.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Well yes, Wednesday did prove that United are no Barcelona...![:p :p](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/tongue.png)
In the words of the man who is fading into dust and is asked to review his life and its consequential elements:
I have nothing...
Master Goodyear, you have until Monday morning to produce 3 minutes of music on the topic of having nothing, failure to do so will result in a call to my office. Have a great weekend.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Just a live jam I did to try out the Elastic Drums update - with a bit of Addictive Pro for the bassline, and a couple of sound effects bunged on top. Instant donkey, I'll do a bit of commenting later look:
This IS the sound of my afternoon. Industrial and repetitive and that's just my thought processes since lunch. I found my heart rate began to rise steadily and by the time the piece trailed off I was running at least 30bpm higher than when I started. Felt slightly sweaty. Might be a good weight loss program. I think this is where we make our millions.
I think a plus in your noise is that it always feels organic in the sense that while there may be a lot going on (and perhaps different jackhammers and drills involved) the overall sound feels as if a whole. This is how the indentured mill workers felt sure the future would sound...
Thanks Captain! It's a bit less avant garden than my usual fare...actually it's been nice getting something rhythmic going - I'm going to try ED with Blocs later, see how that goes.
I guess it sounds like a consistent piece due to the way it's recorded - basically I press record and frantically jump between ED and Addictive Pro, tweaking it all live and switching patterns for a few minutes, with no possibility of editing out mistakes or embellishing the boring bits. This way of working is a kind of homage to the bloke I told you about - who recorded a live tape full of original songs then sold the only copy for a pound. I don't get a pound, but at least I have a copy.
It's a bit repetitive, could do with some vocals or lead instrumentation but it's not going to happen - instant shows, one pound a throw.
I'll go through the other tracks in the thread when I've sobered up tomorrow and cough up a few comments.
Fair comment. I'll have a whip round about that pound.
@MonzoPro I don't take orders from Daleks. Being a 6ft odd mental Irishman, I doubt you take orders from ANYONE! I read the thread a couple of weeks ago. Gulp. Which reminds me....![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Your song is brilliant, (I'm safe for a month now).
Strange. For the first few listens, I found it incredibly therapeutic, but then after a while and with further spins, the intensometer appeared to escalate rapidly. With the speed of pill'd up bindweed, and similar to what happens in the film "Lucy" you engulfed me in android pipeage. The elephant calls were relaxing early doors. Now, they're stampeding inside my brain. Is that Stavros I hear at the end. Telling his tipsy, tin terrors to be on the lookout for the offspring of a human and a doe eyed, bow tied Cyberman/woman/wetf it is. Great artwork by the way. I'd pay more than a quid to see that! Not the mating ritual.....I mean the childoid that is created. Great tune. Sorry sir....a BRILLIANT tune. I value my nuts!![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Wow thank you for the feedback - it's really just a live jam thing I did to try out the new Elastic Drum features, but I'll happily take all that! I take orders from Mrs Monzo, but the Daleks can bugger off. There's a story in that title, probably not for public consumption though.
I'm impressed with the ED update, so will hopefully put together something a bit more structured with it for my next outing, marry it up with Blocs probably for more of a tune.
I'll try and get some feedback on the other tracks today..
I posted the first version of this (see below) and @Marcel kindly cleaned up the vocals after the event. Much clearer, less distracting in the sound, and thus more miserable (a good thing, given the context). I post it here first for folks who haven't heard it yet because it's simply better than the original far rougher version, which was entirely my fault etc etc:
V1: Our friend @Marcel kindly let me use his sophisticated tune to muddy up with a poem and thus I hereby exonerate him from all responsibility for the poorly recorded vocal track. My explanation to him as to the poem itself (the words are beneath the spoiler) was as follows: ...It was written in two halves (just like the song). The first part in New York City and the second in London and it is thinking about the duality of our nature (as much as geography). Not so much about sex specifically as the day dreams of the lonely...

Pornographer’s weekend
It’s Sunday the year of our Lord
and smoke runs across the East river outside
dissipating.
Ghosts of children hopscotch
through time towards grownuphood.
Five dark trees stand framed in glass.
I’m waiting with my gentle mouth
breathing not thinking
wondering if my tongue’s got a memory
of the word’s it’s been forced to say
the skin it’s kissed.
People have begun being nervous around me
but my toes, those little mice
with their single pork hairs
carry on regardless;
growing nails and dreaming of calcium.
My knees, not forgotten
click and dream of carbon cartilage.
How long will they last?
I’m laughing, cut off from syntax
counting my little scratches
and thinking of red lipstick
of pornography and the stories there are
of what would I be doing if I wasn’t here naked?
I’ve a list of things to do;
typing and eating and being Charlie Mingus.
A motorcycle accelerates outside
and I’m thinking of lipstick again, any color.
An airplane cuts through the sky
a silver pencil going up without noise
imperious, America.
I’m wearing an empty mouth now
wearing clean teeth and trailing the antiseptic
of three color paste; it’d be good to eat more than this.
I’m hungry and remembering the Arctic expeditions
where men lost on polar caps ate candles
and drank each others sperm for protein.
How long would it last?
@JohnnyGoodyear @Marcel Pure class you two. Perfect use of marcels seductive, gently played subtleties. Cleverly crafted an aching need or want that us punters feel from this. Demanding that we sit down and take note of the deeply felt beauty underneath. The swishy rhythm weaves in and out, plaiting it's groove in with the note making instruments. Sublime. Was this written specifically for you Mr Goodyear? It sounds like you two have worked long hours on this song because of your vocal drops. It appears to be verse, chorus etc but isn't and that's interesting. Effective in its structure. The line "Growing nails and dreaming of calcium" should be worshipped. Wonderfully thought provoking to me. Your tone and placement of the last four words empathises the longing and leaves me hungry for more. Stunning mix as well. All clear and present sirs. Huge well done to you both. Thoroughly fell into this.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@Bluepunk Very kind Mister Punk. Must be said that @Marcel generously sent along the music and in my vast filing cabinet of scrappy bits of A4 this poem was towards the top and I did what I often do which is stare at the music's wave form and immediately recognized how the shapes of both pieces fit perfectly. Fate and convenience, always good bedfellows.
@JohnnyGoodyear well done, this reminds me of the old, less disciplined you, the one that used to hand his assignment in on the last day of term. In this case you even got another (absentee) student to help you with your homework, but you managed to keep the chain going, and that's all that matters. The chain is sacred.
I like the fact that you left plenty of space for the music, with its subtle ebb and flow, to breathe behind the poem, and used the gaps well. The guitar paints a pretty, melancholy picture, but the words are not pretty. They speak (to me at least) of middle-age, decay, and death. Funny how the images of planes, and sperm, and lipstick, and toes, and knees, all mingle together in an icky subconscious soup, that paints a picture of someone facing their mortality, or at least their fragility and age.
Maybe you should collaborate with marcel some more. Personally I would like to see all this: the delicate music, the vibe, the subject matter (decay, mortality etc) but with a killer vocal melody to make it into a song.
