Samplr, should I go for it?
Hi,
I have been amazed by this app and the sounds it can bring ( even I am more into roack music actually) but this thing is amazing. I am a litlle bit worried that Link is not implemented but I would imagine that link to midi app should do the job. Also looks like latest update was long ago. To make it short, question to Samplr fans: is it worth? Can you make it work synced with other apps ?
Thanks

Once you Samplr you don't go Backr.
Seriously though. you can use midi link sync/link to midi or a link enabled host like modstep to make it
run perfectly in time with link.
Hi thanks!
Do you combine it with ape soft apps like Idensity and stuff like this?
Without a doubt. Even if you never bother to sync it to anything.
I'd say that it depends... I am very impressed by the results a few people can get with Samplr, but it seems to me that most of the time it results in experimental music or ambient stuff (which I'm not into at all, I admit).
Myself, as a loop/sample based music maker, I was very interested by Samplr, and I tried to use it a lot when I got it right after it was released... But unfortunatly, I was never able to use it correctly, I could never obtain satisfying results...
I'm not saying it's bad (and I even think it's brilliant), I'm saying that it won't work for every musician...
Peace.
I would say it's the best app on my iPad that I hardly ever use.
Absolutely loved it when I bought it (it's a very clever thing), and if I was to open it now I would have a very enjoyable time with it, but I rarely use it on a track. Could be that I have too many other apps now that do what I'm looking to do (Blocs, Egoist, iDensity etc.), but for some weird reason it always gets passed over when I'm rummaging through my musical toolbox. No fault of the app itself - it does the job well, maybe the others jump out more as most are getting regular updates and new features. Maybe an update and a bit of love from the dev would grab my interest in it again.
I still love it though, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Should you buy it? Absolutely.
Yes, that sounds about right. Whenever I dip into Samplr, I think it's absolutely brilliant. I rarely use it for work on tracks, but when I do I wonder why I don't use it so much more. Not enough hours, I suppose.
In that case just don't sample the main groove in live mode but import properly cut material for a solid fundament.
After that live sampling is up to your own groove skills.
I generally prefer unsynced apps, even with my own lack of rhythmic talent... sometimes things evolve that a locked machine would never create.
SamplR is among the most useful apps imho, and it's got an amazingly clean, yet slightly warm reverb.
Ok ok, I'm in... fascinated about the interaction you can have with samples in such a different way...
Same here.
best thing since sliced bread, and that's in spite of the lack of panning. Properly cut sample material for importing makes all of the difference and it can be as rigid as is experimental and anything in-between.
Most important app for IOS music of all time utilizing IOS devices and technology with creative usage of sonic expression.
You know, I felt that way until I realized the vertical controls(sliding up and down) on each area.
That parameter made it 4D for me and changed how I viewed it.
I understand what you mean though.
I personally love Egoist for slice and glitch stuff. Built in Effectrix, drum machine, fat ass bass, oh yeah. All day.
I have to try vertical control (I don't even know what you're talking about lol)... I'll let you know if that changed something for me.
+
Ok ok ... I have to give a new serious try to Samplr, definitely... I am very interested by this kind of results :

what took you this long. Samplr is one the best apps ever made for ios. love it. you should buy it
It's what iOS embodies somehow. And those of us who are besotted have formed a secret club to get new folks buying it in the blind game theory hope that the developer will be pricked awake like the giant-swatting-gnats that he is and throw us the bone of an update...
It's an app that I never really got along with, though for some people it just clicked. I will deffo give it another bash. I recommended it to a friend yesterday who wanted to manipulate a sample in a certain way and he bought it. Hopefully we can bounce ideas off of each other.
Yes. It is one app I have that is without fail able to produce something great in a relatively short time
last updated Dec 20, 2014, still a functioning app for everyone who loves it? Does what you need it to? I've thought about it as well, but lack of an update made me shy away. But for ten bucks........ hmmmmm
One of my faves on iOS and really in a class of its own in terms of the experience. But I have to admit that I sometimes pass it over lately when I'm in the flow and have several Linked apps cooking at one time. Could I open a sync app or AUM? Yes, but sometimes that extra step disrupts the flow.
The lack of an update while it receives praises on a regular base is a sign of quality.
It does what it was supposed to do, as it did from day one on.
In fact I know more updates that spoilt the party or blurred a workflow.
Positive Grid probably the most infamous example.
Rembering Multitrack DAW in it's full simplicity... then an update broke loop recording convenience for about 2 (?) years iirc, until the developer found a workaround.
I prefer straight and simple tools - MTD excels at tracking - no need for a mixdown, fx freezing and such stuff.
Instead of an update a replacement would be a much better decision, keeping things lean.
Same applies to SamplR imho.
It might be cool to have play through of an input channel without recording immediately, thus turning it into a live fx processor.
The reverb (or rather it's control strategy) ist the most outstanding control device that appeared on any of my screens, any system, ever
But that's already beyond the focus of the app.
Completely overrated
Absolutely true.
LOL at @supadom .
Ah, did I say overrated? Sorry I got confused while trying not to write an ode to Marcos Alonso.
What a fucking guy...............
Never found it compelling enough to buy. Perhaps, now that AP has AU support, I feel compelled to jump in. Oh, wait! It's not an AU? Think I'll keep watching then.
I was not trying to write an ode to Marcos Alonso because I didn't want to appear soppy. Explaining cryptic jokes ain't fun in an old age anymore.
If/when loopy, samplr and impaktor have a baby I want to be the Godfather!
Lol!!!
If Samplr was on it's own touchscreen hardware interface it would sell for a grand. I would sell equipment to buy it. It is uniquely intuitive to paint music with. A+
