I thought they're supposed to
I absolutely love me a good fat raw wave. The first thing I do when I get through presets is to strip them off the effects other than eq and compressor.
Yeah when your break it all down, it is kind of disappointing to realize there's only so many ways to affect audio, and that the stuff that seems super fancy is often simpler processes combined together or that the same results can be gotten with less fuss. But the good news is, you can now experiment and have fun within those parameters!
Yes, but a dry sound is a dry sound
Can be very unpleasant
Creamy detuned saw, mmmmmmmmm....
I was more thinking like the most absurd noise becomes bareable beded in mild clouds of reverb ...
E.g. my singing voice
A nod to Guitar?
Was thinking the very same about Blancmange. Thanks for linking that live version. Very great.
Do you guys (he says waving his scarecrow arm in the face of the whole nation) have blancmange? Never seem to have come across it here, whereas it was the working class dessert staple of every tea at a stern auntie's house and endless school lunches (wherein the object, for it was a single item, always rocked in its terrible pink mass).
Not me. The word started and ended with the band for me.
This is mostly right, but its correlation to vanilla pudding in the US is most certainly not what we got at school:
Had it as a kid. Only at parties though.
It was like tough jelly, usually rabbit shaped.
Had something similar in the uk ... angel delight ! Was a powder mixed with cold milk and left to stand a while ... loved it as a kid
What do you experts think of the sound of the Arturia Jup-8 V plug-in, which is currently on Black Friday sale for 50% off? ($74)
http://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/4-Synth/633-Jup-8-V
My mum made a mean blancmange..perhaps the one above is a 'rosemange' ?
Here is something to chew on for aspiring Jupiter 8 owners http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Roland-Jupiter-8-/162273418585?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&nma=true&si=UFJ2UqJq%2BGfCEPqDJNeoGvK%2FfFY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
I think it's absolutely boss. Sad I don't use my computer enough to utilize it! Be aware that once or twice every V collection product cycle, you can get the whole bundle for $200-$300. I pinched the last version at $200.
As a vst in cubase the arturia 8v tended to host more crashes than the m25 on my PC
Why is Roland lagging so behind on apps? Apparently, they don’t have a sizable mobile IT team
https://www.rolandcloud.com
Apps might just no relevant market to them yet.
As a compete guess, I’d say that they rely on their hardware to see them through. Certainly, they’ve got a reputation for great hardware: why sully it with the possibility of creating average/bad software?
Maybe but Moog does well....
True, but Moog has good apps, and has been making them for a while. Does it make sense for Roland to rock their own boat?
(Ultimately, I would love for them to start making apps. I just see little current cause for them to do so)
Heck, they could launch their Integra-7 as an iPhone/iPad app. So many mobile musicians would use it rather than carrying around real gear. They have and own the legendary sounds - they just have to build an app interface for it.
If they did something like Gadget, or AU effects, it could be really cool without necessarily cutting into their hardware sales.
It seemed like they were clearing the way for their own legendary hardware apps when they shut down apps like ReBirth for unlicensed copying. But they seem like they are doing the apps embedded in a hardware shell or something. I am not entirely sure as I don’t keep up on hardware much, but I remember Roland releasing what appeared to be re-issues of classic synths, but they just looked that way on the outside, with an emulation hiding inside. Of course, the haters were hating.
This post is a perfect example why some of us old codgers who used to have our own project studios full of hardware back in the old days feel like we have it so good now on a phone or a tablet!
I love Shriekback! Great band!!
Yep!! I love all of these old new wave / alternative acts!!
Ever since I was a kid I too wanted a JP8, I played with them a few times and was in love.
Later bought a JP6, Juno 106, hoping to get "near" the JP8 - and they do not come close.
The only thing that does get close to that special sound IMO - is a JX3P
(with the kiwi mod)
One day they too will be unaffordable
I had a Juno 106 and a DX27 (Rack mount DX7) in a band in the 90’s. The Juno had a brilliant chorus effect built in which fattened up the sound but still needed reverb & delay to big it up more. Not sure anything could save the DX though, it always sounded harsh and thin whatever I did.
