    Thanks for the hint.

Having already Animoog,Sunrizer,Posion 202, Korg Odyssei,Magellan,Addictive Pro,Gadget synths and Synthmaster, any reason to go for this one?

  • Don't bother. Least used synth on my iPad.

If you got all those, would say no reason to buy, unless you like collecting synth apps ;) Would say interesting if you don't have any deep sounding moog synth. $4.99 is a good price.

If you do get it, be prepared for erratic behaviour when used as an IAA.

but you can ask for support at Arturia :D

If you owned iMini earlier, you might not have some of those.

If you are a fan of synthesizers, and Moog emulations in general, this is $5 well spent -- warts and all.

  • Even though I already have iMini I would love to see Moog 'take back' the brand and create a new iMini Moog app based on the technology developed for the Model 15 app and also give it an AU-X treatment at the same time...

If we could only make you king for a day...

  • It'd be cool if this was available for iPhone.

+1. Apart from the issues and bugs it sounds nothing like a Moog.

+1 On that too, come on @GeertBevin .. Are you up for the challenge ? :)

That would be incredible. I would rebuy it instantly.

Drowning in my own saliva at the thought of that. :p

  • Interesting that there is no mention of the reason for the price drop. App Store says nothing about a sale or how long the price drop will be in effect.

  • I've always liked it, especially for the Klaus Schulze presets :)

  • I love iMini, still my favourite for analog synth bass sounds, even after Model 15, it sounds beefier than Model 15 to my ears. I don't know how close it is to the original hardware but in my opinion it just sounds great.

Actually - it does sound a lot like a Moog... Older in the tooth video now, pre-AB, but still relevant.

Yes - if you want something that emulates a Minimoog... it emulates a Minimoog

  • I mean, I won't die for 5€ more.if you believe if brings something maybe I just jump into it. So basically for good basses?

iSem is probably better for basses, but iMini does do bass well, among other things. If you're interested there are plenty of other demos/videos online.

Nah. That video confirms it for me, rather than the opposite, even that old hardware Moog has a fatter sound, and it would be more noticeable if they weren't using such a simple patch. You could get the same sound from a whole bunch of other iOS synth apps.

I play in a band that has a hardware Mini Moog. I once plugged my iPad into the desk to compare it to the real thing. It was embarrassing to say the least, a bit like trying to race a Grand Prix in my 20 year old diesel Ford Focus. The difference might be negligible when listening to compressed YouTube audio but in a studio there's a world of difference.

The Moog 15 is excellent, it gets really close to that rich, fat tone, the iMini doesn't cut the mustard to my ears.

    This.

It doesn't sound like you have any sort of lack for synth sounds. And yes, lots of synths can do Moogish things but I don't think anything else on iOS goes from zero-to-Moog as quickly. Though Viking comes rather close in some ways sonically (and is an AU!), iMini's control layout is faster.

I wonder if Moog's license agreement with Aurturia would even allow them to make their own version? For me, Arturia's iMini, warts and all, is plenty minimoog enough as is. I'd rather Geert do new stuff. Entirely new instrument ideas or virtualizing other Moog gear like moogerfoogers.

  • I've just updated this, run through a few patches and it sounds bloody awful - thin, with audible clipping. Cannot for the life of me understand the love for this app, or why anyone thinks it sounds more like a Moog than say, Thor or Nave. Or iSEM, or the synths in Gadget. Or a homemade kazoo.

Worst sounding synth app on my iPad, I'd almost forgotten how bad it was. Moved to my 'delete next' folder.

  • Went for it and just trying it, looks nice and clean the sounds. I found it does not react to the sustain pedal. Is this something that is intended or is a bug?

For me it's one of the best sounding apps on iOS. Love it. One of my early buys and has never left my front page of synths. A goto must-have for me.

Working with Retronyms now to get a fix for the AB and IAA issues per my other post.

I think it sounds pretty like an actual Minimoog because, well, it sounds pretty like a Moog (per the video), and the scoped signals there and in other similar videos demonstrate it gets pretty close. There are other vids that do a comparison with the Mini V desktop application vs. the Minimoog (also close) and then also the iMini app vs. the Mini V desktop application (nearly identical - same modeling). The result to me is, it sounds like I want it to sound for $9.99 doing a pretty good job vs. spending $3749. (Don't get me wrong - I own Moog synth hardware - and other analog, I'm just happy with this app too  )

The care taken in the Model 15 app by Moog themselves is far greater I think in terms of modeling, but the Arturia modeling overall is pretty close across a variety of synths.

Bottom line for me. It sounds better than a homemade kazoo and I very much like the sounds I get from it.

Each to their own I guess

No app is for everyone, and this one obviously isn't for you. Duly noted.

I think the iMini actually sounds more like a moog than whatever that old thing nick was playing on.

  • Anyone used sustain pedal with this app? Did you manage to make it work?
