  • One thing to keep in mind when comparing vintage analog stuff with contemporary software is: vintage gear tends to come in with a way hotter signal. Obviously a saturated signal is always going to sound way warmer and fatter than a modestly amplified digital output signal that is carefully fitted inside its available headroom.

Almost every comparison video on Youtube is guilty of this ('hey listen how thin this new Roland VST in a box sounds compared to the original lolz derp derp.') B)

  • And they don't often come with presets and MIDI. ;)

  • I'm going to have to reinstall, it sounds like shite on my iPad but you lot seem to think it's the dogs codgers.

  • I held off buying this for ages, got about a year back and is now my in top3 synths for me. Just really lush rich sounds and can make really nice pads with it

  • It's ok for messing around with as a standalone synth. For any other use it's too buggy as already mentioned.

Don't buy it as a Mini Moog copy though, it's too lacking in the sound department for that.

Only my opinion. I would still buy it for that price though.

How is it lacking in particular do you think, in a side-by-side comparison?

It sounds too clinical in my opinion. Needs some drift in the OSCs and more work doing to the Filter especially at higher emphasis settings. It's usable and can be quite decent if you strip off the fx and use some separate ones that sound better, but personally it's just ok, not Moogs OK!

Disclaimer: this is only based on experience of use of a real one many moons ago. In reality most Mini Moogs are known to sound slightly different and of course time colours perspective to be fair.

Also, if you are getting sounds you love out of it, that's all that really counts :)

That's it entirely. People aren't going to listen to a song I write and say: "Aha! - iMini and not a real Minimoog" - at least - I doubt it

Wait... What? You mean people don't sit there and do that kind of analysis on individual instruments blended in a mix? I must get out from under my rock more

Reactions to iPad stuff from my non musician friends has been very interesting and very funny at times :p

  • Anyone can tell me if the sustain pedal works with iMini... I feel invisible...

Start a new thread if it's important to you. Why would you expect iMini owners to find you in this one?

Some of the people here own the app. But maybe you are right,I forgot in English forums people only talk exclusively on the subject of the topic, so well organized... wtf

    Who said that?

No - it doesn't (whereas it does in Mini V on the desktop).

I'll add that to the list of things I'll additionally mention. :+1:

Thanks. I got directly to Retronyms/Eric to ask if this was a bug or something intended... they replied to make sure they got the problem and now let's see if there's any answer/ action from their side.

I think it sounds good. I did try my friends voyager, which is not exactly the same as a mini but pretty close, and they were quite different, but both useful. Model 15 does take it to the next level, but it's also a different beast than a mini anyway.

I get a pretty good moog sound on my novation xio, but I know that a sub phatty is in my future, maybe a year or two down the road.

I know this for a fact though, no matter what hardware or software I use, without tons of practice im still not going to sound even in the same universe as Bernie Worrell or Greg Phillinganes. I play some great whole notes though...

    Thanks for the hint.

Having already Animoog,Sunrizer,Posion 202, Korg Odyssei,Magellan,Addictive Pro,Gadget synths and Synthmaster, any reason to go for this one?

I only keep it for Tabletop.

I haven't needed a new app in a year, but still buy at least 2 per week.

    I know I have a problem.

Absolutely! Even with the bugbears. Hopefully getting fixed shortly :+1:

  • we'll be keeping our fingers crossed

  • Bob Moog endorsed the original software. Better models may have appeared since then, but this one is already pretty good.

I had quite forgotten that Bob Mood had endorsed the original Arturia desktop Mini V. Good point. And, of course, the iPad version is using essentially the same engine. I also understand (though I have not updated my desktop V series from 3) that the latest versions also strive to be even closer - esp. with the filter modeling.
