  • Great app!

  • Dot Melody rules! (Muttering under his breath - please find a way to put patterning on the iPhone ;) )

  • It's fantastically fun.
    Song mode in the future!?

love dot melody as well( also under his breath:please put patterning on the iphone;)

  • "You can now use Ableton Link, MIDI Clock, or Inter-App Audio Sync as a clock source for dot Melody"

Love this. Thanks for the great update.

  • Looking forward to Chordion 2 as well. The Original is probably my favourite app ever.

    +1 and thank you!

  • Nice! Just bought it while running out the door. Looks like midi out works without an IAP...?

  • Thanks @benkamen. I picked it up and am having fun experimenting with it.

  • edited November 2016

@AudioGus there is no longer an IAP for MIDI out.

  • This is simply awesome.

Never got into Dot Melody before. But now it's probably lept to become my go to midi out sequencer on iPhone.

It's so easy to get something going quickly.

The mod wheel (cc1) for each instrument is great.

My only current issue is that I can't seem to map the drum notes to Gadget's required drum notes. Anyone know a solution for this??

    @benkamen
Can you add a IAA Transport please? Jonatan from Kymatica has example code for setting up an IAA Transport and Return to Host here: http://lijon.github.io/inter-app-audio.html

  • Yeah great app and update. Agree it's really easy to start something up with this.
    Many thanks :)

  • @benkamen do you know which notes the drum instrument sends out as midi?

And is there any way to shift these up/down (eg starting at C2 rather than C1 or whatever).

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 It sends white keys from middle C (60) to the C above that (72). No way to shift octaves at the moment.

  • @benkamen did I hear that Patterning was coming to iPhone? I'm sure I must have.

Thanks. Just as a note, Gadget's drum machines respond to notes 36 upwards (white and black notes). If you ever wanted to have an option for this.

Until then I can always hook up MidiFlow and remap notes.

    @benkamen - another suggestion is

A - a way to mute the three instruments when you are using them as midi out

B - perhaps assigning the 3 delay bars to a midi cc value each so they can be used as extra modulation when in midi out mode. The nice thing is that all three are on screen at the same time

    Sorry. That's two suggestions.

Lovely app for jamming with on iPhone though! And a beautiful UI.

The ability to mute instruments individually would be welcome. Also, not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but is the app intended to drive more than one Midi out? That is to say, can I use a separate synth for drum, bass and lead?

Even as it stands this is a superb ideas app, which is accessible not just to trained musicians, but to anyone with a sonic imagination. Great value, too.

  • @Nkersov yes, there are three separate midi outs.

Okay, thanks for that @benkamen. Will work out what I've set wrong in other app. ThumbJam working beautifully with Dot Melody.

  • "Initial response to the app ranged from confused to outwardly hostile."

    ?

It's a clever little app, and not really confusing at all. SMH.

Can you elaborate? How does that work? Thumbjam sounds playing dm patterns, yes? But what about the drums? Would love to see a screen shot of the settings pages.

It's nothing unusual or tricky. Just tap on the big settings control, then the fifth icon in the bottom row - squiggly lines - to bring up Midi settings, as in screen grab below. What apps you have open and available is listed in the box. Tap on the topmost of the three circles, shown in blue here, to change instruments. Bass, lead or drums

The issue I have at the moment is the other end (and not with ThumbJam) getting muktiple synths controlled from Dot Melody at the same time. But as the dev has said this is possible, it's likely just a matter of me fiddling with settings in those apps.

  • How would this app work for controlling AU synths via AUM? Specifically Phasemaker.

  • @gleandibson I would map midi from dot melody to aum and then setup specific midi channels for each instrument. In Aum each channel can be assigned a different midi chanel but all coming from the same midi device i.e. dot Melody. ( caveat: sometimes you have to say the midi source in Aum as Aum destination)
