Don't I recognize you from the Sonar forum?
Yes, the Auria IAP are expensive and well regarded -- particularly the FabFilter stuff. Many prefer AUs, but there are plenty of other good FX apps. Check out AUFX, Holderness Media, Klevgränd, and Sugar Bytes, too.
Also, see this thread:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/11875/list-of-apps-that-also-function-as-au-aui/p1
This one of the reasons I went with both RF-1 and RP-1.. nice to be able to have multiple instances as AU. I also got zMORs EQ for the same reason. I can have one midi loop of another AU tabla via SwarPlug going on one track, beef up it's low end with zMORS EQ, then have another track of AU SwarPlug tabla going with a different midi loop, and another instance of zMORS EQ, totally reshaping it's sound from the first instance. Or, use the same midi loop for each but sort of offset each instance with exaggerated reverb and delay with even more separate instances of RF-1 and RP-1 and/or appfilter and apedelay.
My preference for EQ would be SiLQ, but the dev doesn't seem keen on making it universal or AU anytime soon.
iDensity is also really good. The interface is fantastic for evolving sounds.
Agree on SiLQ, which is lovely but impractical except for mastering, really.
Held off on the RF1 and RP1 because I hoped the DDMF apps would go on sale. So I guess I missed that boat.
As for the Apesoft Apps — this is heresy, but I really find them off-putting. I was drawn the the AU aspect, but there seems to be no default setting. Every preset in ApeDelay is something like SHUDDERING ENTROPY or ICY ANEURYSM or LOOP OF CLANGOROUS DOOM. You know, can't I start with the delay like the one on the guitar in Flock of Seagull's "I Ran" and find my own way into clangorous entropy??
Why not create your own default setting. It's pretty straightforward.
Admittedly this what I thought too. Am slowly moving away from that feeling the more I get in to the fx apps. I can't say they are my favorite fx apps.......yet. But the modulation possibilities alone in all of their apps makes them all special imo.
I would like to start off "normal" and tweak in to craziness at my own preferred rate too.
I think RF-1 and RP-1 are actually still on sale for $2.99... at least that's what the discchord and appshopper sites still say... so you might not have missed the boat yet. zMors EQ is fairly basic, but a bit deeper if you dig a little. Not as good as SilQ IMHO, but universal and AU kinda makes up for it. zMORS EQ isn't on sale any more, but it's only a couple bucks more for the regular price, ie. $4.99 vs $2.99 not a huge difference to get a universal AU3 EQ
I have ZMors, and it's indispensable. Would happily indulge in these AUs, but I have enough bargain apps that are essentially worthless to me. (Example: Crystalline. It overwhelms whatever it touches. It's the app equivalent of the Boss Super Octave pedal: sounds AWESOME in the guitar store; makes into a 30 second solo in one song that eventually gets dropped from the set; dead battery never replaced; given to little brother.)
Crystalline is great, it's just that the default mix level is way too high on almost every preset. Dialing itback to a "normal" amount makes it way more useable. I play guitars too and went through a super expensive pedalboard period and had a few strymon pedals (mobius, timeline, etc). We are talking 450ish a pop, and although i have not a/b'ed them since they are long gone, i get the same fuzzy feeling when i play through it. My only gripe with it and Jhonny is no au, ...yet..
way way better than the boss super octave pedal. Lower the mix and give it another go.
You're not the first to recommend this. Will try again!
@ExAsperis99 don't really want to promote the RF-1 and RP-1 apps blindly... so I did a little experiment earlier today. I used the AU SwarPlug and let it run with one of it's built-in midi loops. I chose it because it's a simple sound, that's clean with good lows and highs present.
One-by-one I added each delay, fx, reverb, etc. apps that I have. Then tweaked until I liked the sound. There weren't any dogs in the bunch. All of them had their strengths and unique qualities. None sounded like they were redundant tools I could do without.
I put them all on one AUM channel and solo'd them each to compare.
Out of all of them, the ones that were the easiest to go from barely noticeable, to subtle coloring and effect, all the way to insanity... with very easy to dial-in fine control.. were the RF/RP-1 apps.
Looks like they're still on sale too. At least that's that appshopper shows.
Of all I tried, some were starting to produce some crackling with all of those apps loaded in the channel. I had them moved to inactive, but it appears they still hit the cpu even if they aren't being used. zMORS EQ surprisingly got a lot of cracking for me with all the extra apps loaded... second only to Model 15. I wasn't surprised that was too much to ask with the Model 15, but I'd figured the zMORS EQ AUs were fairly lightweight.
You are awesome, Skip. Thanks for your thoughtful analysis. Bought.
Yeah i really liked them too!
I wouldn't go that far
I mostly did the test to see if I'd merely caved in to all the hype, sales, etc. and ended up buying stuff that was indeed redundant. Was checking myself mostly. I didn't want to recommend something that I merely bought as an appaholic and due to the app blog site hype and app hawkers. Which in reality, is exactly why I bought them. But after careful evaluation, I'm happy that they are indeed useful and worthy of the hype.
Have you played with them yet? What's your opinion on them? I also agree with you somewhat on your Crystalline opinion. I too felt it smashed everything to smithereens at first. But I do like a small dose of it as spice every now and then.
I know, right? Awesome description. I think you forgot to include the SMOOSH bank presets, like GRANULAR MACHINE LUBRICANT and my own personal favourite, ZOMBIE FACIAL.
It feels to me like all my fav fx apps won't go to AUniand™ til the next AUnibus™ app comes along, and of course it never will because that's AUniand™'s whole raison d'être.
So we wait in AUniand™ for them ... hoping ... and hoping ...
At least I am.
[Ring ring ... ring ring ... "Hello? ... Yes, ok, well, 2015 called earlier ... Yes, they said they'll give you unfunctional cpu eating for your UI's. What do I tell them, is it a deal? ... Hello? ... Hello?"]
Ha! Yes, well acquainted with Zombie Facial.
The fact is...uh. I already bought them based entirely on sale panic! Glad to hear they're good!
iDensity even cheaper (dropped to $3,99).
Idensity and ipulsaret are the ones I would recommend if still on sale. Or not on sale. Once you get some varied rate lfos going wow they are good. Just lie back and enjoy. For the money it's pretty crazy.
Thank you, skiphunt. I didn't get around to trying these until last night, but would have missed them otherwise.
What about Auria plugins?gclub
Popularised maybe but not originated.
We used to use the expression years before he appeared on tv ....... when chips really were cheap.
