What does it say about my intelligence that I also listen to Dumpy's Rusty Nuts and The Macc Lads ?

Besides what? Music taste has everything to do with your environment. To quote Oscar Wilde: Having taste is having the taste of others.

btw this could be an inspiring thread, because I'm always curious about people's taste I do not know.

Here's something to start with Rockets - On the Road Again (1978, Official Video) Probably unknown to most of you folks.

    … except rap and opera.

I've never heard of that genre. I've heard of country and western.

    lol

PS : As an Hip Hop and Rap fan, I'm used to this kind of topics where everyone think he is a real musician who can decide that Hip Hop and Rap are not music lol... And I don't give a f****.
Actually, it's so human that it's really laughable : "something I don't know is something I don't like" if you know what I mean ;-)

I was actually kidding. It was a reference to a 90s thing that i now realise wasn't very popular... An inside inside joke.

    I'm old. I got it.

    The Fall.

    You're welcome.

Up until "This Nation's Saving Grace," at least.

I'm quite a fan of the newer stuff - Fall Heads Roll is a brilliant album, and Stout Man from last years Sub-Lingual Tablet is one of my favourite tracks.

    Wow, a completist!
I once did a gig opening for the Fall in the 90s in Philadelphia. Mark E. was a total mess. At one point, he was crawling around onstage, and he made his way to the bass amp and was fucking with the knobs. The bassist kicked at him a couple of times, and then he wandered away, suddenly returning and unplugging the bass. The bass player dropped his instrument and walked offstage. Keyboardist and drummer stayed onstage and played for another five minutes? Then they all left. Gig over. Proto-Kanye.

Ahhhh, so silver make-up will give my bald head a reason, and will cover up wrinkles too :)
I have to admit, I'm more in this camp on that song though ;)

He's a bit of a handful. The volume stuff though is his 'thing', he likes to 'mix' the sound of the band while they're playing - previous incarnations didn't like it but newer members have come to accept it as part of the performance, as is his habit of disappearing or (like he did at a gig I went to) singing, hidden from behind the stage. Just his way of doing things.

I met him at a signing of his biography, and actually got on alright with him, though he wasn't so friendly to some of the other hardcore fans. I didn't know much of his stuff at the time, and he seemed to like the fact I wasn't in awe of him and was also slightly pissed (drunk).

I wouldn't want to be in his band though.

  • I'm off to get some varied music.

Of course nothing beats the orignal. Just merely an example of early electronics and rock music meets disco. Here's another example electronics meets punk from France 1977

  • For me, the perfect Fall song is "Joker Hysterical Face." It kills me every time. It's like an accident.
I'll give "Fall Heads Roll" a listen. I completely forgot that "Your Future, Our Clutter" was is in heavy rotation for me a couple of years ago.
And say what you want about the band — there's nothing like the Fall. Nor will there ever be. (Wow, that was quite a thread derailment. Apologies to all who are not familiar with the wonderful and frightening world...)

i bet you could do that with blocs wave, with some chill hop thrown in for good measure :D

  • There are some things that feel as though the time has passed and it's now too late. Mrs. Goodyear thinks this way about Casablanca (the film). For me: The Fall.

Oh, I was hoping it was going to be Metal Urbain.
    And I was not disappointed!

They are one of a kind.
However, there is a great new Brit group called Fat White Family. They even perform an "homage" to Mr E. Smith.
    Check them out.

    Hahah.
If you really want to? "No Bulbs," "Pat Trip Dispenser," or "Marquis Cha-Cha."

It's kind of like trying to get young people to understand how great the Minutemen were.

I saw Love and Rockets in 1987 where Daniel Ashe played this role. Three or four songs in, he just leaves the stage, band mates droning on with bewildered but knowing faces. Comes back on stage a few minutes later high out of his mind. Trashes everything until David J just leaves. Kevin Haskins keeps playing a beat for another minute or so but eventually gives up too, what with cymbal stands flying over his head. Roadie gets ashe off the stage and sets it all back up but they never came back. Hated them ever since. I was 15 or something so didn't think to ask for my money back. Though the once mighty and as-yet-unknown-to-most-of-us Jane's Addiction did open, so I'll give them that.

  • Also, the answer to the original question is 'Math Rock', obvi.

Have you heard Von Sudenfed - MES's joint venture with Mouse on Mars? Don't think they use ElasticDrums on the album but worth a listen:

    I dunno
    Lemme ask Siri

  • Well Hawking has appeared on Floyd album, and did the Monty Python Galaxy song, and is a big fan of Wagner. Trump OTOH, plays Twisted Sister at his rallies... so yeah, I dunno

To be fair, that was after the first 12 musicians told him to stop playing their music.

I'm surprised that we never saw Scott Baio rocking a keytar at a trump rally or two.

Well, some people just don't get genius, and clearly those musicians are not in that camp.

None.. Music is a bit like agriculture.. There is a finite amount of nourishment to be drawn form the ground (or the ether). For every great song written there seems to be less and less to do, hence the greats like Stevie Wonder and Sor Paul not releasing great music anymore. If I hear another bad Indy song at Starbucks I'll PLOTZ! At 64 and a surly old fart I can tell you that "In My Day" we NEVER would think of the slogan "Please support live music". We'd sell our grandmothers down the river to attend a live set. ..My musical listening consists of whatever I generate myself through the wonderful world of ios and also expanding my jazz and pop piano skills..
