iPad Air2 still an option?

i'm thinking about getting a 10" iPad again. is an Air2 still an option? going Pro is too expensive for me...

  • Definitely

  • Yeah some ways of using mine pushes it to its limit, but it's still very much a viable option

  • Good buy. Here the main treshhold was 32 or 64 bit devices.i have an air 1 and 2

  • I'm happy with my 64GB iPad Air 2 and do not feel any need to get the 9.7" iPad Pro yet.
2GB is plenty for most apps I throw at it and it doesn't feel 'sluggish'.

  • thanks for helping me decide!

  • I would go to far and say, if I came into enough money for another iPad at this time, I would add another Air2. I believe it's much better bang for buck than the Pro.

Of course. Minus the processor and the non-existent 256 GB storage option on the iPad Air 2 (also absent the smart connector, the pencil support, the better camera with flash and the true tone display, if you care about those non music related things) both are basically the same iPad, on the other hand...with new iPad models coming in the next few months the current 9.7 Pro might drop in price so...

  • The Air 2 packs plenty of power and is pretty good value for money right now.

  • Now if the 9.7 Pro had have come with the 4gb RAM of the Large Fecker, that may have been a different story as that could be considered a level of future proofing worth the money

  • You can get a pro for like $500?

Where do you live, I will sell you an Air1 or 2.

    Let me know. PM me.

finished this on an iPad Air 1 a couple weeks back- ...using Gadget mostly, it came together w/o a snag. So I'm certain, unless your tracking full bands with gobs of plug-ins, you'll be perfectly fine on an Air 2.

  • I bought the 32gb two weeks ago and plenty of power. Ram is most important and the little ipad pro got the same amount of ram (2gb). IPad air 2 is the only iPad using a tri core CPU,because they reverted back to dualcore with the pro series and I'm wondering what's better using several music apps at the same time.

  • I ordered an iPad Air2 128gb today.
It will be my first iPad,
    Can't afford the Pro now...

  • When going for a budget iPad, you CANNOT go wrong with an Air 2. I love mine. :)

That said, eventually I'm gonna need a replacement iPad and am saving up for a 10" Pro 2 with 256gb storage. This way I can store ALL my samples and soundfonts in one place AND still have enough room for my Sampletanks and other multi-gb music apps.

  • I work with an Air2 and Mini2 and don't find myself lacking in power. Probably run more than 20 apps between them

  • Air2 still lovely.
Future proofing for me was to pass on the iPad Pro and add Surface Pro 3, 8GB processor, 256GB storage, i7

    Agree, Air 2 is excellent.

As for Surface Pro 3, it's just so annoying that Microsoft can do this and Apple won't.

  • Of course it is. Despite the power, I don't want that hulking thing. However, if they release an Air 2 sized 'Pro' with 4gb ram in spring I may upgrade.

  • Still happy with my air1. It will take some 'pro only' killer app to get me to budge.

Agreed. My 64GB Air 2 will be 2 years old in Febuary and it runs just about as smooth as the day I first powered it up. I resisted leaving iOS 8.4 for a long while but finally updated to iOS 9 four or five months back.

I'm on 9.3.5 and will probably stay there, as I feel & have read, that the farther you get from the iOS version the iDevice shipped with the poorer the device will run. My iPad's running well and I just don't want to go to 10 unless absolutely necessary (say Auria, my DAW, goes iOS 10 & up only.)

That's the thing with Apple's draconian 'update or else' mentality though. Because if you resist 10 and then 11 comes out and favorite apps update to 11 and up only you're really screwed since you can't just upgrade or downgrade to the version you want, it's only what Apple makes available. So you worry about 10 making your iPad sluggish and then get forced into 11 which is even more stout...

Sorry, got off on a tangent. I don't know if I just endorsed the getting an Air 2 now or gave reasons against it, lol. Nah, if it's a great deal, grab the deuce!

I wouldn't consider myself that much of a "power user" with regard to audio (more so with video), but I haven't really bumped up against a lack of power with my Air 2 yet. My only problem is a lack of storage. New app's file size is now a deciding factor on whether I buy or not. I'd like to upgrade to a Pro (likely the smaller one) but my gut tells me to hold out for the next version. Does anyone know when that's supposed to be?

  • Air 1 and still Rocking! Tweak settings for every ounce of CPU juice!

My 128 gig Air 2 still suits all my needs.

That's the only thing I absolutely hate about Apple is this d--kheaded move, lol. Otherwise, the iPad affords me to get a ton of apps for hundreds rather than software that costs me countless thousands and thousands.

Same. Had 3 iSEM AUs, Model 15 IAA, Ruismaker AU and some audio tracks running in Cubasis last night. I was getting a brief hiccup when I switched back and forth to Model 15 but was otherwise running fast and glitch free.

  • Crom! Really? Model 15 and all that? I guess AUs are actually somewhat efficient...

I don't think that 'rule' applies to the Air 2. iOS 10 is in many ways much more efficient with resources than 9, and since the Air 2 is still the current iPad its performance may actually improve by updating. Don't take my word for it, just wanted to share my observations.

  • I have no issues making all the music I want on my iPad Air 2... It's running like a charm, even more with iOS 10 (which is a good update IMO, for once).

  • Yeah no major problems with iOS10 here barring a few minor apps that have not been updated since 2014!
