The apps that have had the most impact on my workflow are AUM and blocs wave,

My most used new sound generators are Gladstone and Madrid in Gadget

There have been so many brilliant apps released this year it is hard to see how 2017 is going to be as good.

Yeah I still need Gladstone and Madrid....well want, not need :p

They are great particularly if you want acoustic drums and a realistic bass sound.

  • Infinite Looper
    BlocsWave
    Cubasis 2

Hey stop pushing app drugs :p

  • Sand-outs for me include:

    Blocs Wave
    AUM
    Moebius lab
    Addictive Pro
    Model 15

Lots of good updates from older apps too, such as iDensity, Patterning and Elastic Drums which almost turn them into completely new things.

  • Cubasis 2
    BlocsWave
    Midi Link Sync (free app)

  • Poison 202
    The AUing of WaveMapper
    iWAVESTATION
    PhaseMaker
    Addictive Pro

With those 5 synths I could make sounds the rest of my life. I would include Model 15 except I find I'm crap at programming it :p

  • AUM
    Poison 202
    Model 15
    Moebius Lab

Audulus got an awesome update to 3, and also built a pretty fantastic community around it.

And Amazing Noises/ApeSoft just kept updating their apps to make them even better.

For me the developer of the year were Amazing Noises/ApeSoft. Who not only brought out the amazing Moebius Lab, but also keep bringing out amazing updates for all their apps.

  • For me...Model 15 tops the list, but several other fantastic apps appeared in 2016 that I really like: Shoom, AUM, Viking, DDMF, and Moodscaper.

  • For me the most improved app that was already out pre 2016 is Launchpad, it has had some pretty impressive updates this year alongside the blocs wave releases and updates...
    Those include
    Real time time stretch
    MIDI Clock sync output
    Link
Full colour support for Launchpad hardware
    Massive reduction in pack size
    Easier importing of user samples

It is hardly recognisable as the same app that it was at the start of the year.

  • edited December 2016

    Model15
    AUM
    (What excellence)

  • Isn't there some kind of eligibility dodge that will allow Modstep (born December 2015) to count? A real achievement, despite (because of?) its quirks.

    This!

Yeah it seems a bit unfair that they should not be included, ,another game changing app :)

  • AUM
    Iwavestation
    Addictive Pro

  • My standouts include:

    AUM
Modstep (think it counts as this year)
    Model 15
    IWavestation
    Odyssei
    Moebius lab
    Phasemaker
    Ruismaker fm
    Addictive pro
    Rotor
    Phonem
    AUs becoming the norm

Quite a year, and not to mention Link which I think counts as this year too, I think without that I'm not sure I would have stayed as interested in iPad music as I was getting bored of midi sync.

  • In order:

    1. AUM - Best tool to glue everything together on iOS, high quality design is icing on the cake.
    2. DRC - Excellent synth with it's own sound, more there than meets the eye.
    3. ARP ODYSSEi - Another nice output from Korg, it too has it's own sound and feel.
  • Modstep (Was new to me in 2016)
    Ruismaker (Bram is the boss)
Poison 202 (One of the most impressive VA on any platform)
DJPlayerPro (Just so slick it itches)
Remixlive (Because they have the balls to copy Launchpad even down to the icon haha)
Wavestation (Simply because it is one of the greatest hardware synths of all time, a complete sack of shit to program, and somehow has become a use case in perfect UX reinvention, it is now, what it always should have been, IE it was twenty years ahead of the available UI technology originally)

Which IAP did you buy? The complaints in the reviews about upgrade nags were off-putting to me.

The price fluctuations on DJ Player EM are also unsettling.

  • Well i probably look at it from a different point of view to most.
DJPlayer Pro is on par with any desktop app, so i had no problem at all investing in the 5 year plan, the developer answers questions within minutes on Slack, he updates pretty much every other week with any bug fixes and useful user requests, and there is no other iPad app that can touch it's advanced features like DVS.
Then again i am a DJ Geek, so I already own Traktor (That utter shite on iPad) and desktop, Serato, Virtual DJ, Pinky and Mixvibes in a cupboard somewhere along with the original Linux Final Scratch from Stanton)
That goes with a ridiculous collection of DJ hardware (Been cutting for 30 years haha)
But a lot of it is being pushed aside/sold to move head on with DJPP and the Pi developments

I just can't remember what was out in 2016 and what came before. It's all a blur of app goodness.

2017 will be tough though, as I'm pretty much app'd out now. I really need to settle down to getting more out of what I have :)

Exactly. I don't know if I'm thinking of one that I just got this year but was released a year or more before...hey, new to me!

  • iWavestation
    Cubasis 2
    Bram Bos all of them

  • I may be biased but...

    1. MicSwap Pro
    2. AudioMaster Pro
    3. AUM
    4. AudioBus
    5. RD4
  • Gadget and Animoog.

    Wait, hold on...

Em, if we talking about 2016 then - mmmm...

    Oddy
    Wavey
    Model15
    AUM - definitely - it's so solid!
Infinite Looper - I kind of feel this is an update or two off being amazing.

Going to add the Korg Oddy as it's finding new found love from me.

  • For me Drum Session and all others mentioned.

and I would expect iWavestation but am replenishing funds first so must partially reserve judgment ,(but not a lot) :D as I have a fairly good opinion just from what little I have seen and heard already.
