Our new TC Helicon App "VIDIAL" is out. :)

Hey folks, Matt here from TC-Helicon. We've just released a new app called VIDIAL. VIDIAL is a tool for musicians to make videos using their mobile devices, and quickly and easily add audio/video FX. It's still early on in it's evolution, so we're very eager to see how people use it, and what they want us to add next the most. You can download VIDIAL for FREE on the App Store here:

  • Thanks, I'll check it out. Good to see TC-Helicon still visits us.

  • Very cool. Congrats on the release.

Solid manual is here: http://www.vidial.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/VIDIAL_M_EN.pdf and FAQ is here: http://www.vidial.com/faq/

I'm not sure I'll use it for music videos but having a simple way to add some EQ/volume/compression to random video captures is inviting indeed.

Sidebar: it's a bit weird to me that the "Vidial Support" link on the app store and the "Get Help" link on the site both lead to an empty feeling page with the leading text as "We’re sorry that VIDIAL isn’t performing as you expect it to. " I was just looking for the manual and/or FAQ. :) Feel like you guys are expecting the worst!

  • ** Is there a way to use the app without logging in?**
Currently, no. A big part of VIDIAL is getting discovered and discovering other musicians. You are welcome to use the app without participating in the social features, just export to Photos.

    ^ Bummer.

  • Seems perfect tool for push video content generation and sharing. Instagram/youtube integration are winner features. Also log with fb seems logic to me.

    I'm in.

Free and small size. Well that deserves a go.
    Thanks! Downloading....

  • Thanks guys. Looking forward to hearing all of your feedback. While we're pretty pleased with the app, we definitely still see it as a starting point for the app. That's the beauty of apps compared to hardware products, is how easily they can change and grow.

@syrupcore - can you elaborate on why logging in is such a bummer? (you're not the first to raise this issue, and I can imagine why, but being able to quote user's words always helps if/when we do look at making modifications).

    Cheers,
    Matt

  • Since I'm not really interested in the social aspect of the app, and being logged into some remote server doesn't offer any feature benefit to the part of the app I'm interested in, I'd rather pay for it and keep my info to myself. It's not a deal breaker. Just a bummer.

Exactly. But I'm generally disturbed when an app is free and requires this. What's in it for TC Helion was my initial thought. Sorry, but that's just me.

+1. Also means it won't work without an internet connection.

  • I wish I hadn't cluttered up my app list by downloading this then reading that I had to register then deleting this. The reason is that it's not an app for me to use, it seems more of an app for you to use me as a small component of your experiment. I hate other people, I'd dread to think that other people are listening to my music, and the last thing I'd want is for other people to view my videos. Imagine - they'd criticise, and tell me I should have done it a different way. I couldn't handle that. It'd be like being on social networking - it'd be terrible. Negative criticism is the currency out there, freely handed around. It's safer to stay at home. On my own.

This "have to register" before use esp. with the Big FB login button Thing is like a hot potato, grabbed it / delete it.

  • Sorry, downloaded and deleted it too.
I'm not interested in the social media side of apps. - Oggl, Instagram etc.

  • I'm confused as to what's in it for the developers. But they are all at it so I must be missing something.

  • Same here. I'll give some of my info after I decide to commit to an app but avoid it otherwise.

  • I was in the beta testing pool for this but all the blood's gone out of my brain when I got greeted with the login page. Maybe beta wasn't a beta but more like a hype tool?

    Methinks the same

@supadom I was in charge of plenty of the beta, and I can assure you that it was legitimate testing, and not just a hype tool.

@BiancaNeve (and others) what in it for us? You're right to ask the question. and it's a big answer but in short, the answer is information. No, not your private info, but rather info on aggregate. (The hope is)it will give us valuable information as to how users out there use an app like this, and how different types of users integrate video with their music. We've also just never released a free app before and are flat out curious to see the uptake. and of course, being a free app, we're interested to see if it can get in some users hands that otherwise might not have known of us, or have never used any of our products before. At the end of the day we are a business, and anyway of reaching a potential new customer presents itself as an opportunity for growth :)

Empire building. Creating a business with thousands of subscribers that can eventually be sold off to one of the big guys. Maybe.

  • I agree with the above on not being interested in having to log in to a social service. Not for me either.

  • Too bad, me I also will not use an App that does only work with login. My device is cut lose from the internet, when playing, and this on purpose.

  • @MonzoPro For whatever it's worth - I give you my word that we don't sell any of our info to anyone, big or small. Fact is, in this space as a company we ARE one of the "big guys" :)

The video creation/editing part of the app was created having in mind people who want to create video content for YouTube/FB/Instagram. Musicians who also tend to share and sell their music with the world, so the social element was a natural fit for us. The internal social side of the app is relatively simple at this point and simply indexes videos that people are already sharing to youtube within the app as an additional discovery tool. If you are a person (like as @u0421793 states) flat out isn't interested in other people hearing their music, someone who only makes music for ones self, then indeed, perhaps this app isn't for you - and I think that's ok. All that being said I can't help but question the irony of people stating disinterest in making an account and interacting with other users in an app, via an app driven forum where you have signed up and made an account for the purpose of interacting with other users ;)

  • @TCapps I like to mix audio/video. I created an account and tried one video. I didn't care for the controls or the effects. Then, I deleted the app. Does that mean you still have my info/account data? Or, does that get deleted when I deleted the app?

There's also those who are not interested in hearing/exchanging other peoples music but mainly finding an app that adds video to their music, period. Whatever the further use.

I was really looking forward to using this app and it definitely got me very curious but in the age of 'free' internet I'd rather pay £5 or whatever the price for the app rather than doing the social media thing. And no, I'm not the 'play with/to myself kind of guy'. We already have examples of google and Facebook (and they are even bigger guys) to be weary of these kind of deals.

Please don't take it personally. The response of many on this forum should be taken as food for thought not only for TC Helicon.

  • Downloaded yesterday. Didn't get a chance to open it yet. Now that I see you have to set up an account and log in, I will delete without ever opening.

My issue is not that the dev would get my info. My issue is that I'm sick and tired of setting up accounts and logging into shit. It's a huge pain in the ass, I always forget my password, and there's tons of other apps that don't make you do this.

I don't know if this is meant as some kind of joke, but I find it ignorant and offensive, if not downright rude. I'm not going to comment further on this matter.

  • I thought it was quite funny myself

Glad I don't have to sign into the kettle to make a cup of tea. (Yet!)

  • Aha! I didn't make an account to sign in to audiobus forum, so there!

(I use my twitter account to authenticate).
