What types of audio/music apps are still missing?

I'd still like to see a sample repository that can be used by the other apps to pull samples from. Audioshare is close, but it still needs more audio sharing support from the other apps. And of course a major overhaul to the lack of consistency with midi implementations. I'd also like to see more apps supporting vst/au type of functionality like Auria has, and more slots in AB effects (unless iOS7 covers that.)
@funjunkie Maybe some genre specific apps. These apps would include genre specific instrumentation, musical techniques, styles, history, musical examples, and of course the tools to compose.
Good call @mgmg4871. I'd love to have some prog rock specific apps!
Hi guys
Something like NI's Kontakt, & (less disk space consuming) versions of orchestra libraries, & FM8 style app. A DAW that handles midi & automation well, (Auria is the best so far, but finding & editing an automation isn't so easy). Bluetooth midi would be great, hopefully Miselu's c24 will bring that to iOS. Camel to make a full version of Alchemy
Also, not 100% related, but it should be easier to midi learn, backup, & share midi maps between devices. Animoog is best afaik, as it lets u type in values & save the CC map, (but most apps, force u go through the midi learn process for all your devices)
Other than that I'm really happy with iOS - I love the touch interface & don't really miss any of the desktop synths. I think most of the above will come as iOS continues to evolve, & there's so much to explore in the happytime
All the best!
The Yonac apps also let you enter the cc, which I really appreciate. I'm with you @gdog in the BT midi and hoping c.24 sets the path. Nov. can't come soon enough!
I forgot to add that I'd like to see some of the midi only apps get on the bus. Having the control panel would be very useful. I understand the issue is that AB requires an audio engine in the app, so I'm wondering how that might be overcome.
More reberbs!
Does Midi Control have a audio engine?
Not sure @mgmg4871. I got that info from midi designer pro, and they don't have an audio engine, and don't want to add one due to performance concerns. I imagine there are a few others in the same situation.
And more effects in general. I love how the devs seem to be focusing on effects apps lately. I'd like to see some distortion and fuzz apps added! Even if they're digital, I'd like to see what is possible with those as dedicated apps. Chorus and acoustic sims would be others to add to the list.
@funjunkie I found the answer about Midi Control. It does have a audio engine. You can record directly into Midi Control from other apps via AB.
We're up to our elbows in virtual analogue. How about some physical modeling, or a good FM, or something in additive synthesis other than Addictive. Just looking at Reaktor or Max for ideas about interesting things that haven't made it to mobile yet. We're just scratching the surface, I hope.
More live performance based apps, not so much DJ apps. Things like Electrify sort of come close, but just about anything new these days is a controller versus an all in one performance set up.
I agree with everything mentioned above. To that, I would like to add an app that recreates various types of string ensemble synths, like the Solina, the Eminent 310, the Crumar Performer, Roland RS-202, etc., etc. I love the string ensemble synth sound, and we don't currently have anything like it on the iPad. The closest thing we have is a few similar-sounding patches here or there, or soundfonts (with the BS-16i). I have a nice Solina soundfont, and I know where to buy a nice Eminent soundfont, but each device has a unique sound, and there are many different instruments available. I would love an ipad equivalent of UVI's String Machines!
I would really like to have something like Paulstretch (AKA Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch) built into BeatMaker 2 (or AudioShare).
There are ways to download YouTube apps and sample their audio on iOS, but it's a rather cumbersome process. An app that plays YouTube and Vimeo videos and includes Audiobus support would be very useful for sampling purposes. Unfortunately I doubt Apple would approve such a thing due to copyright infringement concerns. Maybe the app could make it on the jailbreak market?
I could do with a nice and really light footprint 16 stereo channel AB output slot line mixer with aux sends that, like Auria's subs, can be routed back through the AB input slot. With MIDI control learnable on all knobs and faders. Also ability to select external multi channel inputs as well as whatver AB makes available. Saveable presets of course.
But, unlike AUria, not loaded down with anything more than perhaps a simple main out recorder, and no or minimal effects (hence the foldback to Input).
For live jamming. Something like the Reason mixer module? Intended for use with iConnect4+ and another iThing or two, and a FOcusrite 18i6 or similar for binging in external audio.
A high quality acoustic drum kit. DrumStudio and GarageBand do alright, but not quite there. Something with the features of DrumStudio (with more kit pieces) and the sound quality of GarageBand, but with more sound sculpting options would be nice.
@StygianPulse - AnyTune Pro + supports what you're describing, YouTube and Vimeo. Great app!
When I used to write music on my PC, before it died months ago, I often used samples from freesound.org. I've been thinking it would be awesome to have convenient access to a database like that for iOS. And I've just found someone who is working on just that!
http://www.freesound.org/forum/freesound-project/33098/?page=1#post66995
This person is gearing it towards Dropbox sharing it seems, but a lot of apps support Dropbox, so that's a decent start. Not sure how development is going, but if you're into using samples in your music, this could be promising.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing that @TCM.
@dwarman I'd love that mixer.
I'm hopelessly waiting for NOTION...
It's expensive, takes a lot of space but is great for orchestral music, film scores etc.
I'd also love to see something like loopy but with 32+ slots and grouping. Live super lite.
THE drum app.
We need a guitar/whatever modeling app that has a user database to share patches (like Digitech). What we really need is a Autotune- only effect app that has no latency. Could be complicated like Antares or simple like Gsnap, as long as it fixes out of tune horns, guitars, and people who can't sing on-key (we all know that person).
I really want a decent virtual drummer app. Not a drum machine per se, but something that generates realistic grooves that can be tweaked.
I also want a good Hammond/drawbar organ on the bus. I like Organ+ and I am disappointed that it isn't on the bus yet.
@funjunkie27 Wow, never heard of AnyTune before. It looks really useful. Do you know how the audio slowdown quality is compared to Paulstretch? Does the YouTube download feature allow you to choose the video quality of the download? I might have to buy this!
@MrNezumi You're kidding, right?
@PaulB - I'm in China and all videos are blocked; I can't see what you posted.
Yeah @PaulB, THE (acoustic) drum app!
It doesn't need to be as huge as BFD or similar software (maybe with optional IAPs, so you decide what fits your iPad model, but no need for GBs of data for a drum kit to sound really well, you know what I mean). We can live with less velocity layers as well, or at least with less than 64 or 128 per kit piece like BFD has, hehe. But the concept of having separate microphoness (direct mics, room, overs, etc) with a "control room" with a mixer and effects (insert and send/return) is superb! Then it would be easy to implement a high resolution sequencer (if that's really needed, I would prefer a better synth engine with Virtual and Core MIDI and no sequencer). That's what I would like to see in a dedicated Acoustic Drum app.
And... A good dedicated and programmable MIDI Sampler, capable of multiple key zones and velocity layers. Think a small version of Kontakt of even an iOS version of the highly flexible NN-XT in Reason. We already have Thor, right you Propellerheads?
