Geoshred 2.0 Should I buy it?
I play real guitar but that screen keyboard looks confusing. Would love to know how is it at controlling saxophone in ST2. Thanks!
Comments
Jajaja. But It's layout just like a guitar!!!. Same notes as well!!!
I really like it to play guitar-like solos. I don't think a realistic sax solo can be achieved with this app, if realistic it's what you're looking for.
I play it better than real guitar. I'm a medium level guitarist who doesn't practice or pick up my real guitar much. But I love love GeoShred. And the midi out is great Although haven't played with it much. It's very intuitive to a real fretboard layout but you can customize the layout however you like. I say get it. It's unique, fun, and sounds great on its own or as a midi controller with synths. Plus on sale.
I've been playing guitar for over 40 years but can knock out a better solo via Geoshred. Buy it.
If you just want it to control a saxophone sound, then perhaps iFretless Sax would be a better bet. But Geoshred is terrific in its own right, so I would go for it!
Yes, it is incredible.
Plus, more improvements and upgrades coming so this app is about to catch its stride.
MIDI was the thing that stimyed its ability to really make a dent, but, it will be off to the races this year for this app.
Not sure, but, wouldn't Geo-Synth do that?
Or Synthecaster is also great app.
Both Universal
For me, the million dollar question:
Can Geoshred convert an incoming MIDI performance on a single channel (i.e. playing notes on channel one with my MIDI keyboard) to MPE out? I would buy in an instant for this functionality.
Reason: I want to play my Nord Drum "polyphonically" with a MIDI keyboard. A Nord Drum is basically six monophonic voices. I can use ThumbJam's control surface to do note-per-channel (awesome!), but I really want to play it with a physical keyboard.
I'd pay 25€ for that.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I don't think anything on iOS is able to do this yet, but there seems to be a lot of interest recently, so I think I will end up making a midi utility app that lets you play MPE synths easier with a single channel controller and also to be able to play single-channel synths with an MPE controller (with smart limitations). I'll probably throw in TJ's scale lock features along with temperament and microtonal abilities.
Not exactly sure when I'll get to it though!
As I said before: Jesse for president!
Whenever it's ready my money is waiting!
Couldn't one of the midi utility apps do this, set channel based on incoming note data?
I like creating multiple instances of the same synth/patch in Gadget (assigned to different midi channels) and then using GeoShred's intelligent touch per channel to cycle round 4 or more midi channels. This gives me cc automation per note/channel in Gadget and sounds amazing. Turns Gadget into an MPE type affair.
I know that Thumbjam can do something similar as a controller but I've never really got on with the midi cc out implementation in Thumbjam to be honest (not sure it's being sent on different midi channels and it seems fixed to cc10 only).
If you created any midi app that would work with multiple instances of a synth (or AU) emulating MPE that would be fantastic
.
beautiful, and how could I resist requesting a huge ole x/y pad ala ikaossilator style for note input in addition to the above, just a little icing on top of the icing that is already there...... I'm ready to buy![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I just bought Geoshred and i´m pleasantly surprised. A great guitar synth that is just incredibly fun to play. Covers a huge array of sounds, that i didn´t have before.
@sonosaurus
I'd buy that, day one. Great to hear it's a possibility!
This brought a smile to my face![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

Even though I don't play 'strings'I love Geoshred and the synth-engine is very capable...
Just came back off of sale, so now it is $15 more than it was during the Thanksgiving sale. Sometimes I wish my iTunes credit would align with these sales. Other times I am appreciative they don't because I don't use the apps that I do have to their full capability anyway!
Hi @sonosaurus , wanted to let you know that I've managed to get Geoshred to output cycling note-per-channel based on incoming notes from a single channel - my Nord Drum is now polyphonic and playable with a physical keyboard! If you make an app that simplifies and streamlines the process, I'll still happily buy it, as this was quite tricky to set up. Thanks to Pat from MoForte for the help, specially considering Geoshred is not really designed to do this.
So I now have notes cycling through channels 2 to 5 on the Nord Drum, allowing for polyphony and endless sound design possibilities. One of the most inspiring is the ability to have slightly different parameters set for each monophonic voice, leading to subtle variations with each note played in a chord or in sequence. I just tried running my MIDI keyboard into ThumbJam's arpeggiator into Geoshred's "filter" into the Nord Drum. Being able to tweak the sound of each voice of an arpeggiated sequence separately is pure bliss!
its perfect now. Besides no 8 strings or more with weird tunings that is. Ace besides that, super good midi so far so good so what.
Can you share how you setup this GeoShred filter?
p.s. i would also pay for a streamlined app that does this;)
Yes, please do share.
I'm thinking the same would be possible for:
Thumbjam > GeoShred > 6 different instances of Gadget
and as you say, tweaking each instance separately.
tc-data > geoshred > whatever![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@Moderndaycompiler - Sure, no problem.
Drum roll... How to convert input from a single MIDI channel to note-per-channel output using GeoShred.
To keep it simple, I'll describe a version with five-note polyphonic note-per-channel output.
In GeoShred, first choose the MIDI control preset from the end of the list or turn down the Amp/Volume slider to silence GeoShred's internal engine.
Next, open the MIDI settings and press the MIDI icon.
Choose your input for MIDI in. Make sure "Note Input" and "Pass Thru" are both selected. I've tried both a MIDI keyboard and ThumbJam sending on Channel 1 and they both worked fine. It's best to disable everything you don't need.
Make sure your input isn't directly connected to your desired output outside of GeoShred or you'll get doubled notes.
For MIDI out, I set it to my Nord Drum (connected to the physical DIN MIDI out on my iPad's interface) which automatically receives on Channels 1-6. You could, for example, choose Gadget's virtual MIDI in, and set up five Gadgets on Channels 2-5. Channel 1 is always skipped because of the way MPE works in Geoshred.
If you want to send to multiple apps, select them, then go into each app and make sure they are only set to receive on the correct channel (e.g. Channel 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6). You may need to "record arm" in DAW-style apps.
Next, create a MIDI preset in the MIDI settings section of GeoShred.
Below are what seem to be the most important settings. Bear in mind I haven't tried to set up anything connected with pitchbend as I'm sure that's where things will start to get a bit hairy.
MIDI Out---
Mode: MPE
Max Channel: 6 (min channel will be automatically set to 2, so that equals five note polyphony)
Mono mode per channel: On
MIDI Channel/Note: On
MIDI In---
Mode: Single
Channel: 1
Mono mode per channel: On
If you plan to use GeoShred itself to perform and don't want any pitchbend headaches, you can set the performance mode to Piano.
That should do the trick.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Definitely interested to see what that GeoShred midi filter setup is!
Just a note that if you are using TJ as controller there is no need to go through GS to accomplish this, just enable channel per touch in the midi output options. Or am I missing something @Matt_Fletcher_2000 ?
I love ThumbJam!!!
Very generous.
Yep. I got that working. But I'm also interested in round robin per channel midi ccs (eg on the y axis of each note).
Amazing...
The thing I'm really interested in, though, is if it can also filter per channel midi ccs.
Anyone know?
"Geo synthesiser" actually sends note and a midi cc value per touch per channel. (As well as per note pitch bend and velocity actually. )
It's the only thing I've found that does this for midi ccs and it's amazing for playing 6 or so duplicate Gadgets at the same time.
I suspect GeoShred can't tie and incoming cc to a note though. Can't see how it would.
Ok, TJ has a few fixed CC bindings if you have one of the controls set to X-axis, pan CC10 or volume CC7 (or channel pressure) if they are enabled for midi output. They should be respecting the channel per touch, if they aren't it's a bug. But I understand the fixed cc# limitation and how that is a problem. It will eventually be rectified for sure.
