  • Not tried two. Thanks for the tip.

However I found even with just the one that the attack and release can suffer quite noticeably. Not found a sweet spot yet. Any advice on the Tonestack Noise gates kindly accepted. :)

Hopefully I can ask a side question here regarding Tonestack.

I got some serious hum going on. Different leads and different setups, through apogee jam or Novation audiohub etc.

Whats a nice "Crunch" Tonestack setup that can limit the hum?

Would appreciate any tips on this one, cheers! :)

If you're by chance using the iRigHD with the Apple camera connection kit that allows charging, or with a USB hub that's plugged into power, it's possible to get a lot of hum. Not everyone sees this, but in my house the camera connection kit is unusable due to hum unless I use a power bank instead of USB charger.

the connection kit cancels the hum? how does that work?

No, what I mean is the connection kit, when connected to power in order to charge the ipad can introduce hum. I was just checking on the off chance that combination was what was causing your hum. If you're not using the CCK / charging combo then nvm. Sorry for adding confusion.

  • @wim thanks for suggestion. Not using the powered cck however. Cheers.

  • if your guitar is ok, then hum is a ground issue in 90% of the cases.
It depends on your own very specific local setup and includes all stuff with an electronic connection.
On an iPad with non-powered interfaces (simple iRig for example) and headphones you don't have any ground at all. Your body may pick up hum and noise from other devices, like a PC or a receiver or whatever, even LED regulation... and lead it into the instrumt's circuit.
The same setup may be dead silent in another location.
As soon as you connect power via mainline supplies, things (usually) get worse if the supply has a 2 pin connector (which is the regular case). If you use active speakers, a PC/Mac connection, an amp it may become real complex... or you're a lucky one and a properly grounded device saves the day.
May read wiered or like voodoo, but that's the way it goes. ;)

I'm a bit of a metalhead and I can't stand Bias. It has really bad aliasing (I think that's what you call it) that I don't get with other apps. I don't think anything comes closer to the sound of real amps than Amplitube.

I think you should try Amp ONE. IMHO app thing is the King among other iOS ampsims B)

Amp one is really a great sounding app. And such a breeze to use. All the controls on one page, amp selection up top. I like it a lot, and it works great for metal.

  • ampOne huh? never heard of it. Any soundcloud samples?

I have several on my SoundCloud

  • nice!! wow sounds really awesome! nice playing too man.

hey what about using plugins on ios? Like fx vst that you use in any other desktop DAW like lepou plugins?

  • I think you could use any music app as an IAA-plugin. Sure it's not the same as VST, but you could use it in similar way.

  • I mean like a amp sim made for mac and pc that is a plugin for DAW on desktop....maybe it will work on ios because its just an FX in daw?

  • Oh, sure... You should try to download it on you iPhone :)
