That might be an idea. I am a bit concerned with the sound being MP3d by Soundcloud though. Trying to guess something as low level to the base of the synths sound might be difficult if it's not in decent quality sound files.
Soundcloud does way less 'harm' than those effects you applied
It doesn't matter that they are cool (have them myself), they simply color and blur the sound.
Yeah I understand that, but for what Andy is suggesting, I would have to apply no fx. The fx applied to the original set while admittedly having effect, does not take away a lot of the character of the synths that were present.
I deliberately did certain things while playing the synths. For example: on Viking Synth I changed the Dual Filter Res and Cutoff using my finger on the filter image. This changed settings all at the same time. This would have been very difficult to do with just my hands in say Poison 202. In Poison I changed the filter settings individually as changing pages is needed to do so.
Even with the fx used, to my ears certain characteristics stand out from the synths chosen and gave reasonable clues in many ways to what synths were being used. What @AndyPlankton is suggesting, would be a completely different game. In this game we would be looking at a much deeper level and agreed, a wash of fx would make it pointless, but so may the reduction in quality.
Besides lets not get too picky, as it's only designed to be a bit of fun

I´m not really into random functions, but it is impressive how different and usable the results are. Addictive "Pro" really deserves the name, it is packed with features and great effects (likely the same as the recently released EFFX). I loved the original Addictive Synth just for the sound, didn´t really understand how it worked back then. The Pro got the sweet oversampled LP24 filter, an arpeggiator like fugue machine with modulation onboard etc. It´s a monster, and it is so great to use and work with. It sounds fat, warm, amazing.
Yeah most random functions are pretty useless, but with Addictive Pro they really got it about right. I've struck gold with a few sessions of making random presets and then fine tuning them.
I don't mention the effect's influence for pickyness - it's sheer physics.
You may do a self-test by reducing the wet amount and compare with a dry signal.
Start at 10% wet, then 5, 4, 3... until you can't tell an obvious difference anymore.
It's stunning how low amounts may be
One of my favourite 'tricks' with a certain reverb was to add a very small room (< 5m) with an almost unnoticable amount around 5%. The result was some sheen similiar to a high quality analog tape recording, saved me one of those expensive voodoo plugins
(the reverb must be high class and rather dense for this to work, in IOS AD480 might be a candidate)
Just goes to show, you only need to get one synth, they all sound the same anyway.

All I'm saying is that the character of which synth is which, is not hidden by the fx in all aspects, so it has not unduly ruined the fun of the game

I know right? Seems most of my recent threads, banal as their original intentions... seem to quickly spiral out of control into defensive rants, mud-slinging, name-calling... etc. I'm like "geez, some of these people need to get off the inter-tubes and get out into the world a bit more." Then I answer myself with, "Yeah, it's ME that needs to get off the freakin' cesspool-time-killing-void that living your life on the internet can be.. time to book a ticket somewhere and cut off for a little while."

You know... a very long time ago when I was a student and studying virtual gaming theory, etc. I had an instructor who was all about gender identity online, etc. She used to be featured in MONDO 2000 a lot, and she (when she was a he) used to be a sound engineer for Jimi Hendrix.
Anyway, this was in the beginning when popular online communities were just starting to form. And, I had often said that I don't thing this radical popularity of interfacing primarily with other's solely through computer screens, is going to be a good thing for humanity. In many ways, the collective sharing of knowledge is a magnificent thing, but in other ways, I think we've lost some vital elements of the human experience that used to keep us in check.
In some forms the written word is amazing, in others not so.
When I read the Lord of the Rings book(s) it was a world of wonder to me, it made my imagination take off, filling in the blank spaces that were left for me to envisage the places and characters, it is one of the few books I have read that I couldn't put down. This was an amazing experience for me that I still hold today.
The same thing happens when reading a post in a forum, or a text message on a phone, your imagination kicks in just the same to fill in the missing information and interpret the meaning.....this is where the problems start.... the back and forth process is not real time and also too slow to stop misinterpretation, defense and retaliation from happening before a check of understanding happens. This is far from the same amazing experience.
With the spoken word this is less likely to happen as there is accentuation and inflection in the speech to reaffirm the meaning in the first place, and if this is also real time (i.e not recorded), either face to face or on a phone the back and forth is quick enough to prevent misunderstanding as we are able to check that understanding while we are given the information.
With face to face communicaton there is the added physical layer of sight and touch......although this isn't always a good thing as it more easily allows preconception or intimidation to occur.
