  • I've mastered cooking oatmeal in the microwave as I don't think there's really any significant room for improvement. My other activities have much more unexplored and unrealized potential.

  • We've got some excellent comedy responses here but I think the original chat topic has been obfuscated.

Anyone got any interesting qualifications? Academic/vocational etc.

I used to be a qualified mental health nurse and did my training to work in the prison services too. Interesting at the time, but wished I'd carried on doing photography instead to be honest.

  • I really like to master bait.

  • Vocationally I am a master of Indian cooking

  • Serious. For a minute anyway. Master of MIDI is my relevant strength. Good enough at least for our work on the Lone Wolf MidiTap (I coded it) to get the honor of an AES Tech Award nominee (1990, computers, lost out to Korg). More recently some level of audio DSP competency (if you have ever played a WiiU game you heard my work, indirectly: responsible for its audio engine).

  • My domain.

Don't know that it's interesting, but I bailed on grad school without even a Masters, then ended up in law school and got my JD. Been practicing law for (gasp) more than 20 years.

  • Guitar wankery. Wankery in general.

    Seinfeld reference. Nicely done Bootsy.

  • (Not trying to be funny...)

I was so convinced as a kid that I would have a fantastic answer for that question. Now I find I'm pretty damn near running out of time (but not giving up).

  • My greatest day job qualification is MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer)...and formerly MCT (Microsoft Certified Trainer)......the latter has lapsed as you have to keep teaching to retain the certification.......I am by trade now a Software Architect and IT manager........both of which I am bored of.
I have no doubts at all that I could get a degree if I wanted one, but I cannot be bothered, its too late in my life for it to make a difference.... I left school before A levels due to boredom and having to redo a year of Maths and English because I was ahead during my O Levels (I did the first year of A level in both subjects during my last year of O level)
My main strengths are creativity and reasoned thinking...in my day job this equates to finding simple solutions to complicated problems.

I am bored with all of the above so do not generally talk about it.

Sod all this worky malarkey.....lets go fishing instead lol

  • Communication. That's my profession but making music, for me, is almost solely communication as well.
Oh, and marriages. I'm in nr. 3 now. :)

  • I have a Masters in Design (moving image). Trying to master music now so I can marry the two :)

I actually quite enjoy finding complicated solutions for simple problems......not a firm believer in Occam's razor

Nothing. I am a master of nothing. Which is why I called my YouTube Channel "TheAudioDabbler" I dabble in everything known to man, not just audio but pretty much anything, just enough to know what and how but not enough to master. Maybe in another 30 years I will have actually master 1 thing or I could just dabble for 30 years and know a little about a million more things.

This is exactly me. Journeyman of many trades, master of none. And I think you undersell your capabilities too, I subscribe to your YouTube channel and enjoy your videos greatly.

If I think of the hobbies I've undertaken...

    • car racing
    • radio control sailplanes
    • windsurfing, sailing, kitesurfing
    • bagpipes, guitar, ios music
    • motorcycles
    • slot cars, Rubik's cube

And I usually quit when I've known how and what to do but before I become a master of it. I think the reality dawns that unless I spend an extraordinary amount of time and money that I'll never get good enough, so I drop it. I do this with guitar at least once a year, losing sight of whatever goals I have for myself in my disgust with my lack of progress or commitment.

BTW, Master of Business Administration, Six Sigma Black Belt, both of which I use every day in my day job but neither give me as much satisfaction as any of my hobbies at any one time. I'm one of those people, though, that never should turn a hobby into a day job because then I'd hate my hobby. I learned that when I used to teach sailing as a kid!

    More this :)

  • @fprintf Thanks for those kind words. Glad you enjoy my videos.

I do understand about not turning your hobbies into your job but at the same time, if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. You will just live your life and get paid to do it.

  • I work as a specialist in mergers and acquisitions at an investment firm. Actually it's pretty boring, i sit around reading and listening to music most of the time.

  • I'm a master of nothing, and a dabbler in everything.
