Love the updated Refraktions but wondering if anybody else is having these issues or if it is just something I’m setting up wrong.
Running Refraktions in AUM, having the App controlled (midi) by Rosetta Collider in Chan 1 of Refraktions. Rosetta Collider on Chan 2, Rozeta ARP on Chan 3. Cannot get Refraktions Chan’s 4-8 to be controlled by Rosetta ... or several other AU’s or IAA,s that I’ve tried.
BUT with the 3 channels running, after about 4-5 minutes Ref will crash. I’m only at 31-33% cpu, so I don’t believe that is my problem.
    iPad Pro 9.7” IOS 11.2

Reattempt at my above setup since today’s update and only one crash! Not having Refraktions open during the crash I believe “midi overload” was at fault. (❓)
Was able to get all 8 channels to work now!

Tried 5 instances of Rozeta Partcles under Refraktions with the speed slowed down drastically and No Crashes after 15 minutes of continuous play.

Nice work @j2snell and thanks for a great App!

Great to hear! I wanted to get this patch out quickly once I debugged it. Last version I added a virtual out, something useful for AUM MIDI routing. The virtual out was accidentally being added twice in certain scenarios, causing MIDI feedback. Once I fixed that bug, the MIDI feedback only occurs if I intentionally route the virtual out to the virtual in, using AUM.

Let me know if any other bugs come up. Otherwise I'll be moving on to adding features again :)

  • @j2snell - there seems to be a root key selection fault - Some of the sharp settings are missing
(but they still work) - just thought I would let you know :)
For eg: there is no C# - just "..."

    Hi @Mayo
Do you mean the right note is playing but "..." is showing up in the text display on the main screen?

  • Also, new demo video is now ready for 2.2:

@j2snell When I go to select the key I want to play in (in the drop down menu)

    • the sharps show as dots - not #

Can you send me a screenshot? Almost sounds like a font issue...

not noticing any ... on my end --- #'s display ok

Done - This is supposed to be C#
    BTW - I'm on 12.3 Pro V1

  • Ah I see. The size of the settings window on iPad is truncating the text. Got it. Thank you, I'll look into how to fix that.

Air2 showing the key selection correctly. Maybe a Pro 12” issue?

You know what'd be nice? An indicator of the notes - or at least the root notes on the surface. I often find myself wanting to play a certain note and guessing where it is - missing the note I want half the time. Just a small letter showing a root note would help get my bearings... just a thought...

Neat library, almost makes me want to go back to coding for fun but it’s not happening.> @Halftone said:

    Nice, +1 on that.

  • Mr. Snell, I can't thank you enough for the update! I was so worried that after not being updated for almost a year, that the app would be abandoned. This is hands down the best generative iOS app!

I'm not sure how to balance out the simple interface with simply having a fully functional keyboard. That was one of my motivations in adding the app as a Audiobus Filter - you can use a separate keyboard app to input notes into any channel. Same with external MIDI, you can use any external MIDI controller now to input notes.

Fair enough That's kinda what I've been doing.

  • Right now on sale... just in case someone wants to pick it up :) I think $5 or so

It also just got a sweet update yesterday. One of my all time favs!

  • Yep, added a feature that I've been wanting for a long time - the ability to disable tracks and change the number of tracks accessible in the interface. Sometimes during shows, I only need 4 or 5 tracks, and don't need the unused tracks appearing on screen.

    Bargain!

I’ve had this since launch, and it is such an elegant app, with loads of potential. Plus, a developer who is very keen to keep on developing.

Anyone who dabbles in ambient or generative music really should have this app in their collection.

Some people had been asking for more demos videos, so I set aside some time this month and made about a dozen. I cover using Refraktions with hardware, software, other iOS apps, Audiobus, AUM, and MIDI connections and feature updates from the last two updates.

  • Excellent, I really appreciate demos and I hope it generates interest/sales for you.

Yeah, I definitely appreciate videos too when learning new software / apps, so I'm happy to be able to produce these.

  • Thanks mate!
Looking forward to learn some new stuff :)

  • Very good, Jason.....for customers using hardware. :)

I suspect many of us are using multiple IOS soft synths. So a video or two in that direction would be rather useful.

Keep iup the good work, as this is the most elegant ambient music app available.

When I pasted the link in the forum, it embedded the first video rather than just being a link :(

There is a very small playlist icon in the upper left corner of the embed which leads to the rest of them. Here is the iOS video:

    Just the job. Thanks. :)

  • @j2snell I'm glad you consistently touch base with this app with refinements to an already stellar tool. It's great to be reminded that many of the "artist" designers out there are still pushing the envelope and polishing to perfection.

    Thank you :)

  • Ah you're welcome! It's a pleasure working on it. More soon...
