I saw Doug tweeted earlier today about this, the AppStore blurb for the iPhone version says its £3.99 and midi out is available as additional IAP. There is also an iPad version which is linked from their website. (I'm currently on iPhone in work, can't see the iPad pricing). It looks good...
I liked his previous app. It looks good.
yes last Klimper was quite nice, and this one looks really interesting
As far as I can see from a quick play, this is his previous app, but with a piano roll added that highlights the chord notes.
Another clever feature is that it will transpose your masterpiece into different keys and modes.
I cant see a midi out IPA though - but it does have midi export.
New one is universal too
Hope it gets MIDI out. Bouncing a MIDI file out to something else just to hear it with other synths seems like too much trouble. UI looks nice though
It would have been nice if he had offered extra functionality to the original app as an IAP. That was the main weakness of the original Klimper--unlike apps like Navichord, Suggester, Piano Companion, Firo, Chordbot, etc, it doesn't auto-play the chord progressions you create with it.
I'm not saying he couldn't make a whole new app like this too, but I think that Klimper is really hobbled by just letting you try chords and then doing nothing with them. That's why I don't use it much, even though I think it's a really beautiful app.
This new app is the same regarding the chords. I wish there was option to include the chords in a track.
I bought. I really don't get the point of selecting chord progressions, if it doesn't do anything with them. I agree it's a beautiful app but maybe I just don't get it.
anybody ask the dev about it, would be cool to know her/his thoughts on that
Weird, not available on the UK appstore.
Well I bought it in uk AppStore......
On the piano roll the chord notes are coloured and the non chord notes are dark so by only picking the coloured boxes it's simple to generate a harmonious melody accross all the tracks.
@BiancaNeve Thank you, it wasn't there before, in fact none of the dev's apps would show as available earlier today, glad they're all there now.
I wonder what that was about.
Maybe they needed to put another shilling in the meter.
I went for Suggester and bought the IAP midi out straight off. The dev has updated this regularly and I find it brilliant and fairly intuitive.
What does this app have that Suggester doesn't?
A piano roll, which highlights the notes in the chords.
down to 2,99 € for the moment
under #File Export it says
"(Note: With the current release 1.0 measures are wrongly scaled. Will be fixed with the next update, price is at 50% until update is available)"

but that is the old klimper ...
I like the concept of the new klimper, and it also looks nice. playing just a little bit with it, it seems it is not fully there yet as a compositional tool, but a promising start for sure.
oh is it? apologies. Is there a video for the new klimper?

is everything still there from the old version with added functionality or is there anything you guys miss from the older version?
klimper 1 has a playable keyboard and midi out, klimper 2 has an auxy like piano roll and midi export instead
OK, after a bit of play with it, I'll update my first impression to
it is actually quite unique
it is not only that you can build chord progressions easily and create a melody based on the chords, but you can also create melodies first and then have chords suggested to the selected notes or bars. and that works really well, so you can go back and forth working on harmony or melody and you can also rearrange chords easily including their melodic content on the timeline.
It has a few bugs at present, especially export, but those will surely be addressed quickly. at the current price, a real bargain I'd say.
It does seem to have odd recommendations though. If you watch the video, he chose the classic C G am F progression, but none of those chords were recommended as far as I can see.
I think in that regard it is like the old klimper, not suggesting anything based on the chords already present but simply showing the chords that would go with certain notes
I think what I was hoping for was more of hook theory approach.
I've jumped into owning the "new" KLIMPER - I do like this app in the first hour or so I've played with it...
----- I have some questions though.....
Has anyone out there tried to export the midi file / info into cubasis or any other app...
--- Do I need the IAP to do this ???
--- Does it separate the tracks into a single file ???
I do like this app - have discovered a few things in the brief time I've spent with it and think it could be a very useful tool for someone without the music theory or ability to play a piano as myself...
I would like to know what the notes are that I'm using on the piano roll
---- From the limited knowledge I have on scales/chords it seems that all the available notes on the piano roll corespond to "in scale" (not just the white notes) - Is this correct ??
---- I would love for the developer to create a more in depth tutorial though - It seems like there is more hidden under the hood..
Anyone who hasn't used this - realize there is the ability to add multiple tracks (not sure how many with a collection of sampled instruments - including a drum kit) as well as a mixer to each track that help isolate other parts/instruments when creating new melodic melodies
----- It is very fun to me - could see people sharing the snippets between each other to create something cohesive inside a daw ......
There is no IAP in the new Klimper Music Composition app. You can export midi into Cubasis, instruments are put into one track. (CORRECTION: Cubasis does not import properly, two tracks imported into 1 and 3 tracks imported into 2. Auria Pro, however, imports the correct number of separate midi tracks).
The notes that appear in the piano roll correspond to the key, and the lighter ones correspond to the chosen chord in the measure above.
You can actually drag the right edge of the chord to make it last for less than one measure.
