That is reason I never use the very expensive Auria Pro I have sitting there.

I am a "performance" type artist who records live with minimal mixing. Defeats the purpose of music for me.

    Pretty big statement right there.

    Which part?

  • In just went for a refurb ipad pro, the smaller size, 128 gig. I have an air 2, which i'm going to give to my wife. The refurbs are 15 percent off original price, and they are pretty much good as new. I get more storage and better sound. I'd like more memory, but truth to tell, it's manageable for me. The new ones will be pricy. I also wonder about the headphone jack.

So far, the only things that my Air 2 wasn't able to deal with was more than 5 instances of Korg Lexington in Gadget and any number of Fabfilter twin / MB instances in Auria Pro and Ican't find out how the larger Pro deals with these scenarios. So, I'm in two minds to look at the (large) Pro or perhaps wait for new models.

I just tried it (multiple instances of Lexington) on my 9.7" Pro, I tried 5 with no problem so I threw 3 more on there and it handled that with no problem.

I have Managed 10 instances of Lexington on the iPad 12.9, (and felt like I could have thrown a couple more with no problem) but that doesn't say much, it depends on the parts being played, maybe if we had the same part a consensus could be reached about the actual difference in performance between the 3 iPad models.

    Cheers,

Yes, I think that would be most useful. I read somewhere that iOS somewhat limits the processing power available for audio (?), so I'm wondering what difference the faster CPUs are making.

(I've found that some Lexington patches are more CPU hungry than others)

  • Well, here's my 2 cents.
I'd had a 64 GB iPad 4 for about 4 years and it had got to the point where its cracked screen and inability to download newer apps started to really grate. Roland Canvas was the first one- and while I could live without it, I couldn't live without Model 15. Then when Korg dropped the Oddy, that was it.
Now, impecunious as I am, this was gonna be a credit card purchase, so I shopped around 'cos I didn't wanna go plastic crazy.
I knew I wanted at least 128 GB and while the pro got a lot of good press, I wasn't interested in the pencil, cos that's not where my talents lie. The fat bastard would be great at home, but I spend 2 hrs a day on a packed London tube and it was gonna be too unwieldy - and wankily flash.

So I opted for an Air 2 128 GB.......and I've no regrets. It's brilliant; I've been able to download all the apps I'd had to delete and it works like a charm. Brexit's imminence has already driven Apple prices up and so for £450 (plus 40 for a survivor case I had to adapt to take big jack headphones) I got exactly the best bang for my buck that I was looking for.

I will of course ignore all "iPad Pro 2..wow!" Threads when they emerge...

They kept that on the laptops, I believe. So hopefully they won't do anything dozy....aside from the inevitably crazy pricing. Especially if they produce a Pro with 515gb and 8gb RAM.

  • I think I'll go for the air2, I can't really stretch to the cost of a pro, plus I'm sure the wife might insert it somewhere rather uncomfortable if I did lol

Have a look at the refurbs, if you really want one. They are at the bottom of the Apple page. As I said, 15 percent off list.
