Sugar Bytes: Where are thou?

Cyclop -- Really Cool App

Egoist - Monster ............1 of my faves of all time.

Thesys.............. too fiddly and small with other better seq available

Effetrx - super neat fx sequencer

Wow and Turnado you know the deal.

So, that brings me back to the main point, what is next for IOS for SUGAR BYTES?

I thought something is due or will it be a NAMN surprise?

Hope so, some of my favourite apps there.

  • Loving Egoist and quietly hoping for Link update.

I was discussing another thing with them earlier in the week and asked a little extra question to their support correspondent:

Just as a quick extra question: I previously discussed with Sugar Bytes support whether the apps would be possible to be used as AUv3 modules in the future. The answer then was possibly but it's a long way off. Has there been any development in this area in this time?

    To which they replied:

unfortunately, I can't say much and we still have no short term plans for releasing an AU version but we will watch the market and as soon as this flavour starts to establish itself in the iOS world in a successful and stable manner we may come up with an AU version as well.

  • I agree, they produce some of the finest apps. Thesys is also really good if you can get around the zooming thing. I hope that gets Link too.

  • i sincerely hope Thesys gets link. its literally the only thing i want them to do.
2 linked ipads controlling hardware connected to a 3rd linked desktop is just waaaaay too much fun.
currently midi link sync is decent but drifts sometimes.

How is it when hosted in two linked instances of AUM? I've found 2x Egoist to be flawless like this.

Thesys ignores AUM's tempo completely. only thing it obeys seems to be clock from modstep or midi link sync.
and that too isnt perfect. it drifts a bit. Link would make it rock solid.

  • Obscurium is their most intriguing creation, and I hear that is not in the future.

    Sugar Bytes, please,

    1. Link for all.
    2. Egoist needs a toggle for triggering each sample via external MIDI instead of changing pattern! Puhleeze?! I want my Beatstep Pro drums to unlock the beauty of Egoist.

You can trigger the individual slices by MIDI notes, if that's what you mean.

  • I guess I need Toggle off program change.

  • yes, Link for Thesys please. iOS sequencer royalty

Yah if you hit the lower left button in egoist you can then send a range of notes for program change and a range of notes for sample trigger. 256 samples to trigger!

  • Thesys is so much fun when you couple it with a launch-control XL.

Straightforward, honest answers like this make me like them even more. SB4L.

Well, damn, I'm always struck by how much I don't know about the apps I use... Thanks for the tip!

You are obviously deep into Egoist like I.

People have no idea how powerful this is.

Its like a reverse engineered DAW in a sequencer translation method.

The bass is some of the best available when you get into the ties, slides, or pitch wrangling.

Or JUST USE IT AS A SYNCED SEQUENCER FOR ANOTHER EXTERNAL BASS APP.

    You know what's up.

I pretty much control it exclusively from my remote zero and launch control XL. Don't even look at the screen unless I'm adding modulation. Have custom templates for both controllers. Having tactile control of all 32 steps is a whole other feeling. I love it :)
Plus you can transpose the entire pattern using midi keyboard input while still keeping it in the scale you selected. It's powerful for coming up with melodies etc.

...pulls quneo out of drawer. Looks for midi adapter...

  • @RustiK yes, the Egoist MIDI bass sequencer capabilities are underrated. It's great for using with Troublemaker and you can get much longer sequences than with Troublemaker's own IAA sequencer plus it works great for AU sequencing.

Good stuff, hope it comes to Egoist too, as I'm missing this when using it with Troublemaker and Patterning.

Yeah hope they manage it with Egoist too. I find it syncs well as IAA though in AUM. But I haven't tried with Troublemaker/patterning combo

So for Troublemaker....Thesys or EGOist ? I'm on Mini2 so have always been put off by the murmurings about small controls being too fiddly.

I don't have Troublemaker yet. But both would be good. You could get much more advanced and complex bass sequences with Thesys over Egoist though. But on a mini, Egoist is much easier to use.

I can't get my head around the bass sequencer at all in Egoist, but it connects easily to other apps (I replace the Egoist bass with Cyclop sometimes as well), so outputting the Egoist bassline to Troublemaker, coupled with the drums and slicer makes a nice quick 'one-stop-shop' for mucking about, and then I'll drop in a bit of Patterning to beef up the beat once it's all going.

I know there is one for Egoist.

Hey Mister, can you explain (one syllable words etc) how you 'connect' Egoist to/through/from/for/into whatever Troublemaker. I threw away the bass in Egoist on the first day I used it, but am thinking (because of the pattern chaining etc) that I need to revisit...any clarification greatly appreciated.

  • Open Troublemaker, Open egoist,
    Goto midi Settings
    Bass Destination
    Thats all

What he said ^ In the Egoist MIDI settings (on the robot screen) it should appear as a bass destination.
