Appstore price tier restructuring
If there's one thing we love talkin about its app prices..
I guess I'll be looking into how to turn my Apple account from pounds to euros!
Comments
Took longer than I expected but it was inevitable really wasn't it![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
On the plus side it will probably save me money in the long run as things move more into think about it rather than impulse buy territory
Since Apple sold 28.5 billion dollars of apps last year alone they obviously need the money....poor them.
It'll just mean more selective choices by me too. The already expensive living costs in Britain is going to get a lot worse this year.
I will spend exactly the same total money; that which I have available for apps. I may spend less to be honest as apps become less impulse buys, I may become more choosy.
Long term, Apple may keep the same profit margins by this move. They may also find that they are just pushing us to consider other expenses before app purchases more.
At the end of the day, app purchases are not essential. Apple hardware prices have risen too. The effect of that for myself has been to make me consider the second hand market or alternatives if I purchase similar hardware again.
However much I like iOS for music making, I certainly don't feel it's the only option.
Lucky me. I'm from Holland and don't think we gonna leave the EU soon. Prices are already doubled since we pay with euro's and only the poor countries took a real benefit from joining.
Think this was also the reason why the brexit took place in the u.k., but who knows what the future brings.
We had the same kind of 'discussion' in Sweden when VAT was added to AppStore prices ages ago and prices went up by 25%
I don't know how big the UK AppStore is in % of the whole AppStore revenue but if there is a significant decrease in purchases Apple might do something about it. Like change the price tier.
Canadian prices fluctuate with the exchange rate. It's irritating for me because everything is marked up almost 40% right now, but it also ensures that developers are getting the same USD per sale. It also prevents people from changing their region to save a few bucks which, again, has the strongest impact on developers.
The downside is that developers might sell fewer apps, but what's the revenue impact compared to making less per sale? We'd have to check the long term stats I suppose.
We also had the Luxembourg effect in the uk when base price went up from 69p to 79p reflecting higher U.K. Vat rate.
The good thing is that I already have all I need. Apart from a new IPad, Audiobus 3 and Loopy 3. Rock on!
Thanks Brexit. So, if there's any apps you've on the fence about - buy them now!
Haha, yeah same for me, my system is thankfully pretty set now.
If I start to learn all the apps I have got already, I will have no time to miss buying any![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

I already have so many great apps. Anything new that seriously appeals to me, a small rise makes no difference. I'll buy anyway.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
so nice to hear it's not just me.
Hardware only for me from now on. At least it can be resold.
It's not just apps that seem to be going up in price. Hardware like synths have went up in price since last year. Yamaha and Roland have increased their prices on synths and other hardware musical equipment quite a lot and Apple increased the price of their MacBooks and iPads by as much as £200 in the last four months. However, everyone seems to blame brexit on this price rise on the apps when the UK hasn't even left the EU yet. Didn't the apps go up in price before a few years ago.

So you won't be buying AudioBus 3?
I have started investing in outboard gear again, Circuit and Guitar amp simulator....now looking for a lead synth (most probably analog)...this was driven by me trying to push the iPad Mini 2 too far in terms of processing so wanted to offload some of the burden.....
25% is a big hike, especially when you think of the higher end apps, i wouldn't want to think what Gadget + IAPs alone would have cost at the higher prices, although in comparison it's still cheaper than the bits of kit I mentioned before.
Seems like this may have been a wise choice for other reasons too now
But this is the way of the world as they say, and it is what it is.....
I wonder if we'll see an equivalent for app buying like we used to see when Duty Free existed within Europe.
"Anyone for an App Cruise?"
Oh and I bet they don't put the prices back down if and when the pound gets strong again.....just like they haven't with petrol or on the supermarket shelves.
The exchange rate, affected by the Brexit vote, is the main reason for price changes. The iMac I was going to buy this year is £700 more than it was a few months ago.
It could actually get a lot worse after Brexit - the PM has stated we'll leave the single market and customs union, so potential tax increases and tariffs could be added to imports and exports. And of course the pound could fall further.
The mind boggles why anyone would vote for this mess.
There was an Apple keynote speech a few years back and they were talking about their profit and the presenter said " It's not about the money" My brother and I still chuckle about that one
Prices going up in India and Turkey too. I blame Apple myself, maybe people will 'vote with their feet' and buy less from the App store - that'll get their attention.
You don't like it when I or others make political statements, yet you can't keep your own trap shut on this.
People 17.5 _million _of us, the largest political mandate in British history, voted for it because they see things differently to you. That's democracy. So far, ALL the doom and gloom predicted hasn't happened.

Exactly, Apple are never slow to take advantage of any excuse to bump up prices. because they;re the greediest bunch of businessmen on planet earth. No matter how many billions they raise, it's never enough.
Guys, let's not get heated up here and keep getting sucked into this. It'll just keep kicking off again and again.
The referendum's ramifications were also pretty sour for me, due to my wife's Russian passport. As a result we're now living in Dublin. Life is good.. little bit tricky but an amazing city to call home and stable future ahead of us. Morale of the story: These are the times we live in and if we're affected by or angry about something, only choices we have are to change our life or learn to live with it. Everything in between is just a hell of our own devising.
Anway, this discussion is not about being angry because of the referendum, it's about being angry because of appstore price increases. Unacceptable!! The greedy bastards!!
Agree. Start living, or get ready for dying. Anything can happen tomorrow. So if Apple apps become too expensive, buy something else instead to chear you up. I'm pretty sure that most of us here are just buying apps for fun now anyway lol
Are android play store prices going up by a similar gouge?
Haha, good point
Some software too...![:p :p](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/tongue.png)
Indeed, doesn´t that also means that the developers get a few more cents per app....they deserve it....mostly.
Are you looking for a fight again? Because you'll fucking get one if you talk to me like that again. Prick.
I'm sticking with making music on the iPad, but probably won't get another iPhone, they priced me out of that one.
