I see mention of "frequency aura" in the representation, supposedly to make instruments at the same range stand out, which could be handy.

I only have au fx apps. So I don't know if it supports instruments too.
AU effects only for now - AU instruments on the horizon ...
Tempting.
Hey Loran,
thanks so much for getting in touch, so Orsilus supports AU Effects completely. It can load AU Instruments however Orsilus does not yet have full midi support, so if you have an AU Instrument that can produce audio without midi input it should be good to go. Midi input should be coming soon, but midi in the arranger is still a way off.
Hope that helps?
Going to join the group now!

Thank you for sharing that clarification. So ... theoretically, all the audio noise making AU instruments (ENKL, Viking, Poison, etc.) should be good? I'll test what I've got in the morrow
Awesome, let me know how it goes.
They all require midi/note input to trigger notes, right?
Hello all,
I am Jam (Jamaine) the developer behind Orsilus. Sorry for the delay in getting involved with the discussion's, it took me a while to get forum rights, so I could only read what was going on.
First of all, apologies for my grammar
If you spot anything else, please DM me or email and I will have it corrected!
In terms of where it sits market wise, I would say somewhere between GarageBand and the pro DAWs like Auria, Cubase etc. As a solo Dev it would probably take me many years to get to the level of a Cubase or Auria both performance and feature wise. I see Orsilus as a good app to record ideas, demo's or songs in, do a quick mix in and collaborate in, then move into Cubase, Logic, Auria and the like if needs be. But that is not to say that it will not evolve as time goes on.
I created the visual mixer interface as I wanted to look at what an alternative to the "traditional" knob and fader based mixer might look like, it is by no means complete yet. But the concept is to provide more visual interfaces for beginning users and people who want to try something different while allowing more advanced users to grow into the more advanced features, like Audio Units, Automation and so on. I have loads of ideas around where I would like to take the visual mixing concept (reverb, filtering, touch-based interfaces on the visual mixer for controlling effects, semi-automated mixing) some are more outlandish than others hehe.
Ideally, the visual mixer would be done in 3D with true depth, but that gets a little tricky (3D rendering a room, instruments). So I chose to do it in 2D and keep things simple for now, I chose to use y-axis (up to raise volume, down to lower) as when I looked at using zoom (icon size) to represent distance, the problem was; in a normal mix most instruments tend to be quite loud or close to the listener and the screen quickly becomes cluttered with flashing icons. Each channel does have a low pass and high pass filter though not currently exposed, and reverb is something I have been toying with, so the ambition is there to do some really cool things, hopefully with help from you guys along the way.
The collaboration element is a first attempt at the deep collaboration I've always wanted in my DAW, the idea being when inside the DAW I can double tap a waveform or the project itself and select a name from a list to share it with. The app will go off; pack up all the files, upload, make a public link and ping this off to the other user in the app and there app can automatically download, unpack and notify them. versioning and really tight integration as @eustressor suggests would be the long term goal.
MIDI Support
No midi support as it stands, though core midi input should happen in the near future.
Midi in terms of Sequencer, Paino Roll and so on, will take loads of time. So at this point in time, it is probably at the end of my list.
AU Support
Does fully support AU Effects
It will load AU Instruments, though no midi, I allowed this in case people wanted to use instruments with built in sequencers, though I accept that is pretty rare. So may remove this until at least midi input is supported.
64-Bit
All of the internal processing and effects use 64-Bit double precision, which is probably a bit adventurous, hence why I recommend an A7, and it only supports iOS 10. I have tested on an iPad mini 2 which is the lowest supported device and performance is okay until you introduce AudioBus and other apps. So to be safe side.... But an iPad Air should be okay.
I hope that offers a little more insight into my thinking, please DM me any thoughts or suggestions you guys have! And please feel free to join the Beta, have a play and help me make it better if you have the time.

It's been a busy few days, and back at work today so apologies for any mistakes or late replies.
And breathe...
Hi @Jam, thanks for coming here and explaining the thinking behind your app. It certainly looks very interesting but I've a feeling that Midi features will be a high priority for many here.
Anyway, best of luck with it -- it'll be very interesting to see how it develops.
Welcome aboard, Jamaine!
@Jam good to hear from you. I can really see that there is a space for an app that has the sorts of features you're working on here and which prioritizes collaboration. I think one of the things missing in the somewhat lonely iOS world is sharing/working with others, which traditionally has been such a part of making much of modern music. I'm very interested to see how this aspect works and develops with Orsilus.
Hey All,
been a little while since I've given an update, I have been hard at work with bug fixes and adding some new features. You all gave me loads of feedback but it's taken a while to find the time to do it all. I have added quite a few features in the last few weeks.
Adds Audiobus V3 support (Audiobus MIDI port)
Adds bounce automatic sample rate conversion
Adds MIDI input support
Adds room switching/reverb functionality
Assignment of axis control
Instrument X-Axis Drag (Left / Right) to change channel pan
Instrument Y-Axis Drag (Up / Down) to change channel volume
Instrument Z-Axis Drag (Ring) to change channel Volume, Reverb Send or LPF
Fixes hidden instruments re-appearing bug
Fixes to graphic mixer z axis halo not disappearing on instrument delete
Fixes Bug with automation/reverb popping
Fixes BUG where automation has no effect in bounced audio file
Fixes bug with project reverb settings not loading
Still loads of features that I have been told I need to add like Ableton Link, Midi editing. And to improve, like audio editing. But working on it!!
Jam
For friendlier more intuitive sequencing we already have Cubasis. Is Orsilus better than that? The one thing I'm sure of is that it won't have FF compatibility.
Unfortunately, Auria Pro has users by the danglers, courtesy of FF. As users know, there is nothing that comes close for mastering on IOS.
I'm very early in, but I do like that in the 'Traditional Mixer' view you see all the AU GUI's by scrolling horizontally across the tracks, which is very nice for setting up a big synth patch. Haven't figured how to do the same vertically within each track though.
Pretty good for a first release, it's strong point is the visual side of things ...the AU horizontal scrolling and the visual mixer. You could pretty much drop the Qbeat feature as we have programs like sector and patterning that cover that.
I could pretty much go without multitrack recording, sequencing etc and position it more as visual version of AUM ie mixing, live performance, finishing.
The visual mixing bit is enticing, and the app has a great price point, I must admit.
So maybe worth a punt, knowing full well that anything done with this - or for that matter AUM and Cubasis - will end up getting mastered in Auria Pro.
Edit -
May be a dozy question, but is the visual mixing thing Midi only, or does it also work with audio tracks such as .wav files?

Okay, thanks for that. Dev has also confirmed that visual arranger is for audio.
@Jam
Hey,
it's really nice to hear from the developers here. Having channel is very important and I'm therefore on board. Have bought the app and look forward to see what you come up with.
Code On!
@Jam,
how about the User's Manual? Will be TREMENDOUSLY helpful. Thanks!
