What constitutes 'adequate' speakers or headphones ?

Good question, obviously a very subjective thing. The other approach would be for everyone to report their listening gear when they post, but that seems unnecessary. I think when you know you aren't listening on your best gear then just let us know.

  • Fortunately, when I set an early studio, bought a pair of NS10 's and the sub- woofer and while IOS is my present avenue of creating songs ,they are of course a boon. I record mostly in the cans, monitor tracks through speakers ----- With regard to our listening devices, and while I mean no disrespect here but generally speaking, there aren't too many transistor radios about and vehicles which are probably the worst environment to get A-B comparisons,by this time, aren't half bad i.e.CDs ,and so using the internal speakers seems like most unlikely way of playback, sound quality ,however of course if you have an app that you are familiar with and want to lay down a track,as long as you can hear a BPM click then no problem.

Also using comparisons to other apps would help, things like 'On my earbuds it sounds deeper than MS-20', having the two points of reference would help a lot as the comparison will remove some of the variance of listening devices.
