Who makes ambient here? Please post examples

Hey..

I am keen on hearing iOS ambient creations ( no beats at all). The kind of stuff that ENO makes..generative too. Deep spacey soundscapes.

If you post your tracks, please also explain which apps you use and why they are good for this kind of music.

I love ambient and need some inspiration, it's been over half a year since I made a song lol

Many thanks

  • I suppose that you could call some of my music "ambient" - or at least towards the ambient-ish end of the spectrum (but possibly all too short and with too many rhythmic elements :-) ). You will have to decide for yourself if it matches your description or not - I tend to tag everything "electronic" when posting to soundcloud.

But here are some "location" tracks - these were generally recorded live (i.e. the stereo output) out in the field using live sound via the iPad microphone as well as some field recorded loops and use generally AUM, zero reverb & chorus, frekvens, TapDelay, Addictive, Thumbjam & sometime iSEM/Sunrizer/Nave (I would have to check the actual project files to be sure but these are my general "go to apps"):

And just to mention it - this one was done using a lot of the VCS3 app but everything was produced in Nanostudio. Part 1 might count as ambient-ish, possibly Part 5. The others... less so :-)

  • A few:

Field recordings, Grain Science, Audiostretch and Yellofier for mangling guitar, ApeFilter, AUFX:Space and Dub

    Thanks for listening

Just another day here at Chez Goodyear.....

I did listen to your selections, some of which I found intense/a bit scary. I suspect you and that @MonzoPro fellow were separated at birth etc. However, I really liked King Of The Blues. Excellent stuff.

Here are a few which I am somewhat proud of which I think qualify as "Ambient"

I use Moog Model 15, Lemur, Fugue Machine and Korg Gadget a lot for most of these.

I'm still new to this. Made with Garageband, Layr, Gestrument

The app moodscaper is good for making ambient music: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/moodscaper/id1088768073?mt=8

Recorded into iOS (Auria), a Fender stereo setup with delay pedal chains, a Moog Rogue. Admittedly it was later touched up in a real studio by a more competent producer than me, and the Moog was run through an Eventide harmonizer. Still, never would've come to be without iOS!

  • Forgot this one. Same big guitar setup, and the lead guitar is just me with a Tele playing through Fabfilter Timeless and Saturn. Really like this one, cause it matches its title perfectly and illustrates that scene of a (theoretical) sci-fi movie.

  • Last one, I promise. All this is (besides bg spillover noise from the previous track) is a direct-in Tele run through Crystalline. Simple.

Best apps for ambient and soundscapes: Samplr, Borderlands, iDensity, Sliver, Soundscaper

  • Twin 2 and Timeless filter (which also gave the name to the track) within Auria.

Fugue Machine, Caelestis, TF7, Sliver, Fieldscaper (with lots of field samples), Cubasis.

This one has a beat (heartbeat actually), but I still consider it ambient (my definition of ambient actually includes beats/drums/rhythmic elements too, it all depends on what the end result sounds like, but given your OP question...)
Thor, Samplr, Alchemy (old), Sampletank, Micrologue (Cubasis)

I would definitely agree on that one of the most interesting recent instruments for ambient would be LayR

  • Love this..great videos too!

I like Mr Chasteen's stuff, bit less intensely weird than my stuff, though I've found a couple that are a bit easier on the brain:

Bit of Geoshred noodling over live Borderlands and Fugue powered synths live in AUM:

    Fieldscaper and other joy:

    Dunno:

More recent one, everything including the kitchen sink:

I love all of this, wonderful. I'm going to have this playing today while I'm painting a waterfall landscape!

  • Some lovely music here - going to be some ambient listening later today whilst working.

  • edited March 2017

I posted some new (Work in Progress) tracks last night (but the SC links to the playlist aren't working as expected so here is a link to one track - you can work out the others from there :-) )

  • You forgot Ipulsaret. Awesome synth for trippy space stuff and its similar to Idensity with more options. Its a synth and sampler combined and you can play chords using your own samples. Wish it gets and AU update someday.

  • Long time no post, I started an ambient project that is 95% iOS. I touch everything up in GarageBand and Abelton on my Mac for mastering and eq. Xynthesizr is amazing for creating evolving drones and soundscapes. Just turn th bpm down low. Then the ones mentioned, Borderlands, Samplr, add some Crystiline and stretch it way out in AudioStretch. GarageBands newish FX Pad is great for lush reverb too.

That's xynthesizr into GarageBand with mastering in Abelton

Same here but add in Animoog and AudioShare and the rain

  • Alchemy alchemy alchemy.

  • Some great stuff in here everyone! Love @JeffChasteen and @kitejan especially.

  • Granular, granular, granular synthesis. :)

    Fantastic!

  • Really like this!

  • Lots of good stuff in this thread.

This one is xynthesizr driving model 15, some klevgrand pads and a couple of cubasis synth parts

  • Some great tracks on this thread! Here's a recent one of mine.

Sampletank --> Borderlands --> mastered in Auria Pro

  • Some real fantastic sounds everyone! I'm really enjoying this thread.

I'm always unsure about music generes, and for Ambient I have probably mislabeled some of my older tunes as such, but I think this one qualifies (Alchemy, Alchemy, Alchemy).

Been releasing ambient since 2003, nothing on iOS as such, but I plan to !
