As various people have already articulated, now comes the exciting part: waiting for the many, many subsequent updates!
First Audiobus Remote, and then the world!!! (Not necessarily in that order).
The world certainly needs an update, seeing the sorry state it's in![:'( :'(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/cry.png)
We need Audiobus World v.1. to connect us all back together again.
I'm watching/consuming considerably less news these days and feeling all the better for it.
As the old Bill Hicks routine goes it's all doom and gloom on TV and then you look out of the window and the birds are chirping away ... His Gulf War skit also came to mind today as I glimpsed the headlines. I fear I am drifting off-topic ...
It's the role of art in society to inspire, lead, and provide to people a belief in a positive future. Artists are the architects of ideas and everything we've ever built in this world started it's life as an idea.
Maybe as artists it's we, ourselves, who need to upgrade our methods!
Or we could just....
Everything that was working before with Audiobus 3 is working with Audiobus 3. You just get a MIDI system that can do more than it could before for those apps that support it. Those that don't can use CoreMIDI just like they did with Audiobus 2.
Audiobus 3 replaces MIDI channels between apps by dedicated pipelines. You can still send or receive from specific MIDI channels of connected MIDI hardawre.
Audiobus does support multiple inputs from audio interfaces. It does not support output to multiple channels of audio interfaces yet, but we're going to add support for that in an upcoming update.
Back onto Audiobus.. setting up MIDI with Audiobus really does feel 'magical'! It works so seamlessly and intuitively!
It's not yet hot the stage where I can use it live but I am VERY excited about its continued development and uptake. Auto loading apps!!!!
Which apps do you need to use it live?
Just Audiobus Remote. Auto launching and Audiobus MIDI are beautiful and exciting possibilities, but not essential in practice. They can take their time!
+1 for MiMix which has just been updated with the Audiobus 3 SDK.
That one should be easy.
I'm just trying to get my addled brain around this.
Isn't AB3 supposed to supplant an app like MiMix? Or incorporate it?
I am completely guilty of expecting AB3 to emerge fully formed and solve All Problems Now.
And — again guilty — I have not read the manual, although it looks quite thorough. But I have watched the Jakob Haq video and it seems really cool but not the main feature of AB3.
I was hoping to load a bunch of midi apps in a pipeline and have a bunch of corresponding midi tracks in Cubasis. Will MiMix allow that?
This kind of reminds me of the launch of Pied Piper on "Silicon Valley." I'm the guy who thinks Audiobus 3 is Sky Net.

Audiobus 3 does not have all the features that MiMix has. If you want them, use MiMix. That's pretty much it.
I'm going to go and read the manual before I further cloud the issue.
Mimix is cool, I used to use it a lot with AB before AUM came along.
I don't want to agree with the title of this thread, but I do have a problem with both of my iOS DAWs - Auria Pro and Cubasis at 48 kHz, regardless of whether analogue audio data is present or not. Source files from our Allen & Heath Qu series mixer are encoded at 48 kHz, 24 bit. There is no way to change that bitrate other than downsampling the AIFF files. Therefore, we naturally want to stick with 48 kHz native DAW projects.
Attempting to set 48 kHz for a new MIDI-only project in Cubasis with AB3 active gives the message:
Incompatible sample rate: Audiobus requires a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. Crackling will occur at other sample rates.
Crackling does indeed happen on sounds played on Cubasis instruments with AB3 running, but I didn't hear any crackling when I flow MIDI data through Animoog at 48 kHz, nor in the Cubasis instruments once I closed out AB3.
Auria Pro is my preferred DAW, but it also has even bigger problems with 48 kHz sends & receives. Apps such as Magellan report "This device's hardware sample rate is being controlled by another app: you may experience jittery / glitch audio." They aren't kidding!
Are these 48 kHz problems really an Audiobus matter? Will knocking on Cubasis or Auria Pro's door help? Is 48 kHz simply forbidden fruit?
We need 48 kHz to work for our group's recordings. I've been a paying Audiobus user since v 1.0 but I must say I still feel like a beginner.
Thank you so much!
Please also add my name to the list of people interested in Bluetooth MIDI under AB3.
Not really. The 44kHz limitation in Audiobus 2 (which is where the Cubasis message might stem from) has been lifted some time ago. I'm going to contact Steinberg to see what's what.
Thank you Sebastian. As a 48 kHz audio person (if that's the right term) I feel like an outcast much of the time. Only a few iOS apps such as Animoog, Auria Pro and Cubasis offer settings optimized for 48 kHz. I expect the 96 kHz and 192 kHz people feel similarly, though most are probably using ProTools or other expensive DAWs instead of iOS DAWs. I wish I would have given the bitrate more consideration before buying a semi-pro 48 kHz mixer.
BTW, I am a huge fan of what you are doing with Audiobus. You have my deep appreciation.
How's this for drama: I love you guys so much, it makes me want to cry. I think you're doing amazing work with Audiobus!
I forgot to mention I am using Cubasis 2.1 (newest version) on a 128mb iPad Air2 running iOS 10.3.1.
I am still pretty new to Cubasis. I mostly bought it because of the $25 price drop this week (to check it out after reading about it for years), but I prefer Auria Pro for it's extensive plug-in library, its time warping, and many other great features. I'm not throwing mud at Cubasis - it's a great value as currently priced. People who are on the fence should grab it before the price doubles tomorrow. It's only going to get better with time.
I haven't been following iOS like I used to but purchased AB3 after receiving the email and watching the promo video and was thinking all of the midiflow features were included - especially when I saw that the dev was a part of its development. But, come to find out you have to purchase all the modules separately and they won't even do what I am currently doing with the separate AB2 and midiflow apps. So for now, it's back to the old way of doing things. We'll see what the future holds.
Well said!!![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smiley.png)
...and while you wait for other developers to catch up to the newer (and better) features, you can still continue using AB3 the same way you used AB2, with no problem whatsoever. No functionality was lost, and we users have everything to gain from this new version.![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Yep, love stories are drama too, 1st the cute meet, then troubles upon troubles! and it seems it'll never work out for our lovers...then just when it couldn't get any worse, dude gets a clue, learns the needed life lesson, the lovers are reunited, the kiss, and happily ever after, pending bug fix updates.
Thank you so much!
@Sebastian
There's an old saying "Do more than is expected of you, then more is expected of you"
Sorry about that! And thanks...!
The emperor's clothes are somewhat incomplete at this point, I think, but I'm looking forward to seeing the finished new clothes soon. Meanwhile the other AUMmperor is still wearing some impressive robes.
