Good news
Can the midi out IAP be used as an AB midi input?
Cool beans! I hope Model 15 and Animoog Jr will follow.
Animoogalicious
I'm guessing so. Animoog shows as an available app in the MIDI INPUT slot in AB3.
Yes it can, but that was also working before this update.
Oh yes, use Animoog to drive itself and other synths in the MIDI slots
Ah. So what does the SDK update provide for Animoog users?
iPhone version updated aswell
apple music in the background, interesting!
AB3 updates were done April 3. This is the first thing I did:

Simple chord maker with the MIDI transpose app. Works great
It's really a double-mega bonus because you can have Apple Music in the background and Animoog in the foreground!
That's a nice idea. Do you need the MIDI IAP for this to work?
I do not have the MIDI IAP... So I guess it is not required. I think the IAP is only for network MIDI (which AB3 does not use)
That is clever, @Hmtx. gonna try that!
So, Animoog for iPhone and Filtatron have also been updated to the new SDK.
For Filtatron, that might solve my problems. Was using it as a MIDI-driven audio filter (sending Breath Control, CC#2, to modulate cutoff frequency). It worked well with the audio output but the result wouldn’t record anywhere.
As for Animoog for iPhone, it’s one less reason for me to use my (AB3-challenged) iPad and focus on my iPhone.
Has anyone ever answered if the iphone animoog is a gimped version in some way, or is it just as quality as the ipad one?
Pretty sure the guts are the same. ... with a different UI.
No 4 track recorder IAP optiion for iPhone version though
Nice, Animoog for iPhone and Model 15 got the same treatment now.
Nice that Model 15 is on the new bus with 3 new preset packs
So what's the deal with those synths? I was late to the ios music party and never owned a hardware synth so my nostalgia goggles are broken
What can they do that Nave, Addictive Pro, Sunrizer etc can't?
This would be great as an auv3 too Moog!
Well Animoog isn't supposed to emulate any old hardware. It can make very inspiring sounds which I think are ahead of their time but you have a lot of people who don't program it to its full potential or only use presets.
It's a truly inspiring synth. I wish there was more in depth tutorial material available (a few useful ones online but most just describe the interface in a common sense kind of way without giving too much extra insight). I'm getting a bit better with it as time goes. Have made a few custom Timbres over the last weeks and got the interface pretty well down.
I'm actually about to go on stage with a group called 'Analog On', they have 2-3 analog moog synths on the stage! (along with many other analog bits of kit). I'm here with a few iPads processing audio live and my wife is performing Sakha ethnic vocal techniques. All live improv.. should be interesting!
No Animoog though!
I really wanna learn how to add the other available timbres.
It’s a bit of a convoluted process, but not that involved. Been doing it with Phoneview (got it in a bundle, at some point) but it works in iFunbox, sounds like.

These are neat:

And @RustiK has done neat patches along with his own timbres.
There's a lot of mythology, superstition and heresay floating about in regard to creating Animoog timbres. I wish somebody would make a video or other kind of guide that cuts the crap and clears the water a little.
The Allihoopa export feature like they just added to Model 15 would be nice.
Thanks
What i meant by nostalgia was more that, with me being synth ignorant, Moog doesn't mean anything special
I guess i'm just wondering what makes them worth their price tag. Not complaining about the price by the way. I think most of us can agree that iOS music devs are often severely underpaid. Just wondering what Moog synths do that makes them worth it comparatively
Educate yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moog_synthesizer?wprov=sfsi1
Seriously. Read this Wiki article to get a basic understanding of Moog's history, production, and influence.
Very informative, thanks
Still leaves me wondering what is so special about Animoog and Model 15 compared to other top iOS synths though
Is it the sound quality of the synth engine? The tweaking you can do? The versatility?
To be honest i'm very tempted to get one of them, if only to support devs who are supporting AB3 out of the gate, but on the other hand i have a lot of synths already so i need some angle to justify it
