How?
By using conversion utilities like CDXtract, Awave, Extreme Sample converter, Chicken Systems Translator. More exotic formats like Yamaha A-series can be imported e.g. by Kontakt versions 3 or 4 up to V4.1, then e.g. with Extreme Sample Converter, convert Kontakt to Sf2. Sometimes it takes two conversions with an intermediate format but it usually works well.
Note that you need an old pre-V4.2 Kontakt version as beginning from V4.2, kontakt programs are encrypted and not readable by any 3rd party software.
Thanks.
I agree that the SoundFont would be a great option. If I had the resources I would create an app that both allows creation of and playback of SoundFonts. You would have a market to sell and share soundfonts among an untapped base. The .sf2 format is very articulate.
I would LOVE for bs-16i to support AU!!

It will do that at some point according to the developers FB page
If you can make an app that does disk streaming with sf2, then you have something really unique and welcome. There's the bass library but I've recently asked its developer and he definitely has no plans to add sf2 or sfz disk streaming to bass.
There is also the Linuxsampler project that CMP Grand, as fas as I remember, has used to some extent, and Linuxsampler currently also supports the SFZ format, which is another documented and open format. So you don't have to start from scratch.
Good to hear, thanks for the info!
bs-16i seems to support a much higher number of velocities than the others. I’ve got a 15 layer piano and other multilayered instruments (including drums) available for free download here: https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/
Combine this with the free SoundFont creator/editor Polyphone (PC) then you can do pretty much anything.
I got so excited when I read your post, I immediately went to bismark's facebook page and looked for a post that mentioned that. I could find none. Now I'm wondering if there was a misunderstanding. I really hope you are correct!! Could you please post a link?
The Lyra sampler in Auria supports SF2, SFZ, and EXS, and streams the samples off disk, meaning you can have very large libraries loaded.
It's a video of Bismark as AUv3 in Garageband
https://www.facebook.com/pg/bismark.jp/videos/?ref=page_internal
(No Youtube links but one does not have to be logged into FB to see it).
So I guess the 3.0 update will be AUv3...
Lyra is great, looks almost perfect, but it's no IAA/AB/AU instrument and I heard somebody whisper that its sound font implementation is not as sophisticated as the one in bs-16i (yet to be confirmed).
Yeah bs-16i with sf2 sound fonts is great. I load it into Auria Pro and run sound fonts through Lyra and the rest through bs-16i, a few IAAs and AUs
Best of all worlds
I do have bm2 and bm3 but as explained above they have their own proprietary format
Do they not support import sf2 and export sf2?
Considering how 'deep' the BM3's sampling/synthesis engine is regarding modulation routings, layering, insert effects etc the user would loose a LOT by doing SF2 export.(Which would practically strip out all the additional tweaks, step modulators etc. the user has made to the sound and just save the samples).
Importing SF2 is another matter and it would require an extra layer of interaction to import a sound to a pad from a multi-instrument SF2 file and still there might be some parameter miss-matches during conversion.
The SF2 support in ESX24 is 'bare minimum' as it just imports the samples and sample-mappings.
My SF2 usage is limited to using Bismark and ESX24 so when Bismark becomes an AUv3 I have no need for 'native' SF2 support in any other app...
Sweet!!! Thank you for showing me!!
AudioLayer...a fantastic sample deck.
Did anybody find out I’d Beathawk can support multi layer samples?
Also is Beathawk acoustic drum multi samples?
It’s too bad BM3 interface is such as mess because it seem like the answer to so many iOS problem.
NS2 obsidian can also
No, they want to sell you their own packs
Well then have a look at NanoStudio 2, it offers you "split 3" mode with three velocity layers, full key mapping and a user interface that clicks with most. 3 layers is Ok for most drum samples, if not, you'll map the samples to different keys. Plus in Obsidian, you have a good synth filter on top.
A "virtual 4th" layer can often be achieved by using velocity-to-cutoff modulation.
I have no issues with BM3 interface. It is the top DAW for me in every way except stability (which has me dabbling in NS2 which is quite good but missing some features and considering a go with stagelight.)
It's one strong (bug) update from being my exclusive DAW on iOS.
I agree it's just shy of king of the hill (for different reasons.)
Check DrumPerfect Pro 3. Up to 160 articulations per kit, up to 8 velocities with tweakable crossfade. Random round robin.
AudioLayer includes round robin and random as well as velocity curves, ADSR, and filters. It needs documentation, undo, redo, a larger zoom magnification, and copy, paste to really make it shine.
BM3...you can’t drag to resize a timeline section from the start point you have to slice it and lose the data. The midi editor’s use of select and draw are virtually the same. You can’t drag the play head either from the playback timeline or the midi editor. Copying data from one track to another is convoluted. For me this is a nightmare. It has nice pads and a sampler and is essentially an MPC.
Tangent but when you think about BM3, GrooveRider, AudioLayer and NS2 all coming out in the last couple of years, you realise just how far the iPad has come as a fully fledged sampler/DAW/groovebox in a short space of time. It feels like we are close to really tying up some loose ends being very well served with a choice of iOS sampling workflows.
Exactly,
that's why I bought a surface pro instead of a new iPad
I do own the Beathawk acoustic drums. I wanna know if it’s multi layers. I have not found that information by googling.
Why don't you just try (enter a line of the same drum notes and ramp up the velocity in the pattern editor)?
If there are >1 velocity layers, you will easily hear it.
That’s funny. I tought about the exact same thing and I went to do that right after posting. Lol
And they are multi layered 😃
Lol. For Kontakt sampler? And what’s the BM3 equivalent on Windows? Is there an iMPC or Maschine pad banger VST? Genuinely interested.
