Your favorite FX in iOS

I still find there is a big gap in high quality FX in iOS.
So maybe i missed some in the past years.
What is your favorite stand alone or inside a synth/instrument.

My favorite reverb: It's inside TF8. It's not versatile because limited to one algorithm but it's the best sounding reverb i heard yet on iOS.

My favorite delay: Model 15! It's one of the best delays i ever used. You can modulate it and you can mangle audio trough it via Model 15 (so it can be used as just FX too). It sounds just fantastic. It's of course not so versatile too like other delay apps but the sound quality is awesome. Indeed THE module in Model 15 to add most of the "presence" for me.

Other: 5th Planet wave shaper in NanoStudio.
Damn, i love this thing and it's so good to add drive and bite with different character without totally distort your source.

I would like to have stand alone versions of these!

Other things i really think are great: Virtual Room Pro. It just works for me and there is nothing else on iOS which could do this better.

Fabfilter Saturn, Timeless and Volcano are miles ahead of anything else i've tried. Not just as saturator, delay and filter respectively but the amount of modulation you can do in each makes them capable of some truly crazy and creative stuff

Even on desktop Fabfilter is top of the line and you get them so cheap on iOS

  • Emo chorus is a very creative, high quality chorus/flange/ADT/ambience effect. Better than any guitar pedals.

I also feel like Altispace is a very nice sounding reverb, especially with the modulation option. Again, much better than pedal effects. Seems up to the standard of convolution reverbs on the desktop.

Flux:fx sounds good to my ear as well.

Haven't found a great standalone delay effect in ios that does lush, tape style decays.

    AUFX series are wonderful sounding.

I love RP-1 but sadly it crashes a lot in AUM as an AU and I can't get it to load in AB3.

Blamsoft effects are also amazing sounding and rock solid.

  • Everything from Fabfilter into Auria Pro is superior to everything else on iOS...

But, I also like Virsyns FX-apps... And, AUFX-series is great, but not AUv3 yet...

Everything Fabfilter and PSP plus Effectrix  It could have been AUFX Space and Dub as well but i usually avoid external (AB/IAA) Fx if i can somehow replace them with internal stuff or AU (in Auria Pro/Cubasis).

Yes! This app is great. I hope they add preset saving, because I've started using this more and more in my Auria projects.

    Oh this again???
You find there is a big gap, but have you tried all of the following?

    Echo pad
    Crystalline
    Johnny
    Caramel
    Amazing noises reverb
    Apefilter
    Apedelay
    Möbius lab
    Fluxfx
    Tonestack
    Self-a-fuzz

Haven't tried the auria fx but sounds like they are up there too.
Also no experience with aufx for some reason.

Yes, i wouldn´t say that if i don´t tryed most of the stuff.
I mean compared to the stuff i get on other platforms. I know it´s a different world but while iOS synths are not so far away mostly i still find the FX part is lacking a lot.
Sure there are great FX for iOS but most of them can´t even compete to some free plug-ins.
I know it sounds harsh but it´s like i see it. And i say it, even if no one will hear it >:)
However, it´s just a personal meaning of course and i´m always open for things which will change my mind on this.

sorry, off topic in this context... but cannot resist
sure there are great FX in VST but most cannot compete to some IOS FX (not free, but dead cheapo) ;)
bottom line: it's about quality, not quantity - and about use: fluxfx is a piece of crap in my ears if used in the studio, but serves well in (almost) any live situation, where the sonic environment usually is way from optimal.

And quality FX is the thing i miss in iOS. Like i said, just my feeling maybe.
F.e. i could´n think of an FX i could not get as plug-in but vice versa.
It´s time for iOS to grow :p

Wow by sugarbytes is really great, it is also very deep with so many ways to modulate all the parameters (lfo, env follower etc).
I really recommend watching this quick video to get a sense of it depth, plus it sounds fantastic.

  • Without starting an objective/subjective thread derailment, is there any agreement on measuring the 'quality' of an effect?

Everyone´s ears i think! But metal ringing in reverbs, aliasing and such things are things you could measure of course. But also these lofi things can sound good in some cases.
So of course it´s a personal thing like i mentioned. I also won´t say that there is nothing on iOS (but way less for iPhones only maybe) but i just wish there were more and some of the really high end sounding stuff like Replika XT delay and some other things (i would pay for an app as well).
It also could be that i just missed a lot stuff so i waiting to be proved wrong.
I would like to see stuff like the ringshifter FX, delay designer, space designer etc. inside Logic on iOS. Maybe it´s already there....so i ask here.
The Fabfilter stuff is great, yes. Otherwise there is great stuff for much things but if you want clarity and really detailed stuff (which might be worthless for compressed EDM mp3 and so :# ) even if you layer up huge amounts of sounds it´s important (for me).
Maybe i growed to a kind of sound purist and it´s just my (and from a few others) preference to ask for this.
It might be worthless for most others but even if i just play sounds for myself i want that with the best quality i could get.
So just forget what i said if you are happy with what you get on iOS. It is for sure enough for most people here and i don´t meant there is no quality at all.

    Add me on.

  • ApeFilter. Amazing Noises stuff - especially Moebius Lab, Dub Filter and Glider Verb.

  • FabFilter Saturn, Timeless, Volcano and Pro R!

  • Yep. Loving Virtual Pro as well. It's so simple. Just wish you could use multiple instances in AUM.

not totally disagreeing with you. Have said similar things in the past myself. Curious though which of those you have tried and not tried. short list will do.

  • FluxFx and Tonestack have inferior soundengines than Holderness and Apesoft/Amazing Noises - it's easy to spot.
The first 2 may work very well with live guitar gear, though.

Fair enough but if you don't mind only using them through Auria you can pretty much cover everything between PSP and Fabfilter effects. Both of which are desktop grade but so much cheaper on iOS

Im loving blamsoft reverb, Lofionic duplicat tape delay and Mani chorus . Virsyn Audioeffx gets alot of use too, its a good all rounder but doesnt shine shine as as my 3 individual AUs . I tried rp-1 and rf-1 but they were both too intense for me.

  • It has to be Turnado for me- followed by WOW.
I am not giving up my Korg Kaoss pads though. The KP3+ is my favourite effect of all.

Will be hard to get them for iPhone ;)
I demoed all the Fabfilter stuff and it is great. And yes, i wouldn´t pay so much for it on desktop (even if they can do much more there with DAW integration) since there are a lot cheaper tools which are as good or even better (for my needs). In general their FX belong to the top tools for sure, the synths are not really good compared to the competition (my opinion).
But in general i´m not searching to get desktop tools just cheap, i just want some better stand alone or at best AUv3 FX for iOS, prefered as universal app.
I used Auria some time ago and i don´t liked it. It felt too much like a stripped down desktop DAW and it wasn´t usable for me. On iOS i prefer DAW´s like NanoStudio, BeatMaker 2, Garage Band....
So even if i could get good FX for a bargain, it would me force to use a DAW i can´t work with.

  • AUFX dub and reverb, Turnado, Moebius and Frekvens do most of the heavy lifting here in the Monzo house.

  • Considering the cinebient nature of your tracks, I'd considering spending some time experimenting with stacking and routing effects. For me, Aufx: Dub -> Aufx: Space and I'm generally in galaxy exploration mode. ;)

Crystalline is one of those effects that sounds so good that it's easy to forget that you can use it subtly. Samvada is another. Try this in AUM or a DAW:

    Source synth with two sends:
    1) Crystalline. Turn it up until you can hear it and then dial it back a tiny bit.
    2) Aufx: Dub -> Aufx: Space (or any delay+reverb you like)
1a) send the crystalline track into send 2.

Also think that Holderness' Caramel app is a little under appreciated. Perfect for adding dirt. Overdrive is usually used as an insert but it can be used on a send with AUM. It can also be used as an insert on the send channel itself to dirty up an other wise clean delay+reverb... (while leaving the original source channel clean).

Another experiment: put 2-4 of your favorite reverbs on separate tracks in AUM. Create sends to these and then experiment with panning, filtering and sending the reverbs into each other. Particularly with multiple reverbs going, you can make great use of pre-delay to make things ginormous. You can also send reverbs into a delay and then use a master reverb after the delay to smooth it all out.

  • Currently wondering: can you split the L/R on a channel in AUM and send them to different destinations? Specifically wondering about using something like Holderness' Johnny to create a full wet auto-pan and then sending each of those to different reverb chains, panned out and then blended via a final reverb.
