  • Well...there goes the decision about which iPad to buy out the window.

  • No specs available on the iPad. Its an assumption on my part that this is what will power the new iPad. They only showed off the two new iPhones today and this was the processor.

Next month will definitely be more interesting for all "iOS musicians" when they have their iPad event.

  • Yeah, today was kind of a let down, I expected something besides just iPhones. Meh.

Just as well, I can't afford a new iPad right now anyway.

  • @ChrisG: .....not for all ;)
To the announcements: A7 64bit = good (but i think it's just 1GB ram again = bad), No 128GB=WTF?!? or superbad, Price=as always too high.... but the new "cheap" iPhone 5C prices are the biggest joke!!! However, i would by an iPhone 5S with 128GB and 2GB ram... but now....must sleep about it ;)

@Galaxyexplorer, totally agree about the iPhone 5c. What in the world is all that about? "Introducing our cheapest iphone ever. Starting at an introductory price of...the exact same amount as the high end model that has a 64bit processor, a camera on steroids, a M7 (you know you want it even though you don't know wtf it is), a fingerprint scanner, and sharks with lasers..oh but the 5c will have 8gb more space". Really? I clearly missed something about that.

  • Things went down pretty much as I thought they would...I wasn't expecting much, but I was interested in watching to make sure I didn't miss anything in case I was wrong. :-)

  • it's a shame they didn't dump the 4 and make the original 5 free but I'm guessing that would equal zero to no 5C sales.

  • @audiojunkie I was happy to have never purchased any of the iWork apps though I'd considered them a few times. That was a nice surprise.

  • Unfortunately, it is looking like the iWork apps will only be for those with the new hardware...

  • Good thing we're all buying new iPad fives then :P

  • I'm planning on getting a new ipad. I wonder if it will then be available on my current ipad like other app store purchases?

  • Speed would be almost doubled on the ipad as well.I didn`t expected this.Do.Want.
But a slightly bad move regarding iWorks etc.A bit unfair for longtime supporter that spent hundreds after hundreds of bucks for apps imo..

Actually, according to what I've read, CPU speed would be increased by only around 31%. The new GPU may improve things further, but I don't think this version will see a full doubling of the speed as far as musician apps go....

Nevertheless, going from an iPad2 to an iPad5 would be a significant improvement in speed! :-) Here's a nice comparison of what we've had so far. I would imagine the iPad5 would give us another nice 40%+/- increase above the iPad4, but I may be being optimistic:

Edit: Here's some info on the predicted speed increase & efficiency:

ill be happy if at least the gpu is twice as fast.If that means Aurias edit screen would act smooth the first time ;)

  • @Crabman There is a high probability that you will notice improvements in that area! :-)

My plan was to sell my ipad4 to buy the 5er,it still has warranty and is in perfect condition.

unfortunately it looks like the battery is going to die.It lost more than 30% the last days.Of course a few weeks after the warranty for the wearing parts run out (bought in january).that could drop the price i can get for it a hundred €. I`m pissed about Apple batteries,i had problems with a new ipad2 as well and my MB battery completely died after about 13 months.

  • @crabman, return ipad under warranty, sell NIB. Just sayin'

  • @boone51: do you have an idea at what point it falls under warranty?I read somewhere that Apple is not doing anything before the battery is down to 40%.Because then its obviously that its a"production error".AND afair,at least in germany on parts like battery (wearing part)is only 6 months warranty. Not sure though, have to see what the next weeks will happen with the B and ask my dealer then...sorry for OT

  • For those who know better than myself: will "64 bit" make a big difference for audio apps? I'm assuming yes, since we tend to be pushing current limits of the iDevices around here... But what exactly will this mean for making music?

  • edited September 2013

With this new A7, anyone think we might see a 128 frames buffer size option for Audiobus?

  • The increase in GPU performance has absolutely no impact on any music apps at all. And the 128 frames buffer size isn't something that we can just set in Audiobus. It has to be supported by all apps that are compatible with Audiobus.

So other than being able to run a few more apps at the same time (maybe one or two) there is no difference between the A7 and the A6 chip.

  • But you could get a few more tracks out of cubasis before it splutters and dies ??:)

Good luck with the update next week and thanks for the ride thus far.

  • But you could get a few more tracks out of cubasis before it splutters and dies?

Most likely. Although it's a RAM issue as well, I think. So far I don't know for sure how much the 5S has but rumors are stating that it's 2GB (twice as much as curent iPad 4 or iPhone 5).

  • I had read that 4G of RAM is needed to really take advantage of 64 bit and with less than that, iOS7 will fall back to 32 bit. I always believe what I read on the Internet! ;-) Does anyone have any further insight to that?

  • I hope you all realise all this talk of 64 bit and 4 gig of ram will be Galaxyexplorer very excited!!! :-)
