I too have been Beta testing this lovely sounding piano app. I'll miss it once the beta expires since it's too pricy to me right now. It's got nice controls: equalizer, reverb and velocity. Also global tuning, but I didn't mess around with that. The app worked great stand alone and as AUx on iPhone 6+, iPad4, and iPad mini2 -- all on iOS 10.3.

Did you try offline bouncing as an AU? (in GB or Cubasis). This is where Colossus fails for me

Bouncing (in Cubasis at least) is sweet as a peach...

Cool thanks for confirming that it works

    • this is my new favorite iOS piano, surpassing (for me) the Bechstein in CMP Grande, and the Korg Module pianos.

What iOS needs is Pianoteq. They said they were not interested in porting over to iOS last year. What a shame. It has a very small footprint; perfect for the limited storage of an iPad or iPhone.

    https://www.pianoteq.com

Agree completely. I use pianoteq for all my gigs (no pun etc). Tiny footprint, and just...playable. So playable. Closest experience to the real thing I've had so far, and relatively cheap. I'd buy it on ios. I hope they change their minds.

To my ears, Colossus is better. Sympathetic resonance and sustain are very impressive in Ravenscroft...the model is programmed very well. But in the end, it's about the samples and Colossus delivers more character.

  • @bsantoro : I agree 100% (pianoteq).

  • Hard for me to believe this could come anywhere near Colossus in terms of playability

  • edited June 2017

Compare them if you wish. It's a 100 dollar investment, but aside from my ears' preference, it does not play will with AB3, no IAA only, no midi channel select, occasional glitch in the samples (scratch), excessive delay, no network midi. Hard reboot done to ensure memory issues are cleared. Like fine wine, it will get better with age. I think it is a very fine piano for ipad, and ipad has replaced my real piano, I don't regret the 40, but I went back to Colossus (concert grand - I don't like the other vst iaps)

Network MIDI is there (visible in the video above at 2:45), please contact our support if this is not working for you.
Glitches might be some CPU issue cause I'm 99.999% sure that there is no scratches in the samples.
If you find some, please let us know which note.

    Thanks !

It's got midi channels, works standalone and no issues with Ab3 and no delay or glitches. You could try reinstalling.

Thanks for posting this. I'd completely missed the MIDI/Audio tab on the Settings page. Didn't actually look like a Tab to me. I'd been able to get it working with GeoShred (and had even tried reinstalling) but have now realized it's because I hadn't found the background audio button on this page.

Thanks for the extra help. I still can't get it to work with most ipad controllers, even over network midi. From a kurzweil keyboard it plays fine but only after a 5-10 second delay and there is some latency compared to korg, ilectric, CMP, Colossus.. Can't switch between IAA only or core midi and network midi plays not at all . Playing it, I appreciate the quality. I'm being fussy. Mainly because it cost me 40 euros. It is still, IMHO, second best, first IYHO. I find the sympathetic resonance slightly overdone, artificial. I'm going back and forth between Colossus and annoyed by the load time on the Colossus. But the mid tones on Ravenscroft are very clean. I have an old piano, so I suppose I am biased toward a less pristine sound. Scratchy glitch is on every note. Comes and goes. Likely a CPU issue, but I am on an Air2 after hard reboot.. The new pro comes at Xmas

  • @Pavel Air2 should be plenty enough. Which buffer size and sample rate have you tried ?
44.1khz with buffer size of 256 or 512 should play fine.

    Yes, I did...what a nice surprise.

@JRSIV -- it seems that this developer has rewarded the beta testers as per your idea. I didn't expect that but I sure welcome it.

    Class. And very welcome.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • My kids prefer the wonky real piano from 1923. I'm tired of tuning A3 and D4. But iGrand has its fans, as does Korg Module. Every once in a while I get a hankering for Korg Ivory Jazz and the various Kurzweil pianos. . That's the beauty of vsts.
Thanks @tja for the Gisler videos. I think the dynamic /velocity videos are the real stress test.
I think my favourite is actually the Steinweg ;)

@otristan, thanks for the follow up. I can't reproduce now from the inapp keyboard. I tried 512 and 1024 previously but I can troubleshoot and report via support. Email in app?

  • Love a (soft) variation I've made in Module, like some of the iGrands, really like this Ravenscroft. Amazed and grateful to have choices not bests.

As an iOS piano tragic I am coming around to this view. There is no one "best" its a matter of personal preference and its nice to have choices.
I succumbed to the temptation of the Ravenscroft yesterday and at first I thought I had been diddled because the factory presets did not excite me at all - in fact most were downright annoying. The bass tones seems to disappear with harder playing. Its important to get the velocity amount and curve right. The amount needs to be quite high (around 89 to 96) and the curve around -60 to -85 for my keyboard to have realistic dynamics.
I was wondering if others are having a similar experience.
The sound is very nice however.
One more thing - the developer needs to add a prevent screen lock option.

  • FWIW Dynamic /velocity depends a lot on your MIDI keyboard as well.
Hence the curve that allows MIDI velocities remapping.
The velocity amount knob allows to change how the velocity affects the volume.

    hope this clarifies things.

@TozBourne That is a total class move by the Ravencroft/UVI team. I can only imagine how difficult financially and especially logistically bringing an app to market is, even for a known brand like UVI. Of course return on investment is paramount, these apps are made to make money, but gestures like this to beta testers really are welcome.

  • I wonder if we could ever see a UVI workstation or even Falcon for iOS.
Or their excellent FX like Relayer, Sparkverb, Thorus and Rotary.
I bought EOS 2 and it's great but i'm a reverb junkie and EOS 2 is still far away from the reverb i want on iOS.
So i hope the UVI iOS apps do it well, so that we see more (and not crippled versions please).
I'm willing to pay more for more.

  • What's good about UVI tools you find a lot videos.
    Here is a 35 minute play f.e:

Awesome Piano! In fact the first dedicated piano app for iOS I really like! Plays nicely on my Mini 4.

I use a lot of sample libraries in Auria Pro's Lyra sampler and it's finally nice to now have a really good dedicated piano app!

    Great Work, UVI

  • Just downloaded. Sounds great, looks great, price is great.
    Long live AU

  • Now i wish they consider the Attack EP 88. While iOS hasn´t really much great pianos and it´s fine to have a few different flavors i hope someone also release something with more character.
F.e. my favorite sampled instruments are the rare collector things from Keyscape (Spectrasonics). I even not use the giant 64GB (uncompressed) LA Custom C7 Piano because while it sounds great i´m a bit bored at "normal" piano sound these days.
I especially felt in love with the Wing Tack Piano, it´s hard to describe but it has the most awesome tone i ever heard from a sampled key instrument. But that is flavor of course.
UVI´s Attack EP 88 is another favorite from me and it has a lot of magic added. Indeed my fav. UVI instrument.
However, i have the feeling we see more of these tools.
And while N.I. is focusing on Kontakt, UVI and a few others starting to port their engines to iOS.
So why no UVI workstation for iOS?

Yeah when I first started using Spectrasonics they were using the UVI engine (not anymore) Who knows now that UVI is investing iOS perhaps Spectrasonics is looking at it as well?

Attack EP 88 would be great. I’m glad I invested in a 512 iPad :D
